Glad to see you enjoying this so much! This is about their relationship with the music industry and the dirty tricks they play on artists.

I always loved their guitar interplay, it creates such a unique atmosphere.

Some of their songs sound even better live, there's a whole gig recording on here somewhere.

@@6581punk Totally agree. I also like the BBC sessions versions and the Free Trade Hall Rehearsal recordings, you can really hear the guitars clearly.

I don't recall if I did suggest this to him or not and I think I shied away from it because I suggested Second Skin to someone and they didn't like it. I'm so happy to see Justin enjoying such a lovely album.

This album I played to death when it came out as there was absolutely nothing else like it at the time. Had the pleasure of seeing them 2 weeks ago in Glasgow on the 40th anniversary tour of Script of The Bridge. They still have it. Second Skin up next.

I was supposed to see them last September and the show got pushed out to this year. I am beyond excited!! Last time I saw them was in 2009. I promised myself I'd get there early so I can be right up front! I haven't done that in years and it's feeling like it's long overdue.

Yes, I agree. The Icicle Works (1984) album is full of great songs from start to finish! Very underrated.

It will always baffle me why this band doesn’t get more mainstream recognition. They’re a cult secret thing, but their sound, their songwriting, is so masterful and accessible. They’re not “difficult”, they’re just obviously excellent. The third album Strange Times is, IMO, their peak. More of those dynamics and builds, lovely melodies and perfect production from Dave M Allen (producer of most of The Cure’s 80s records)

Saw them live in Sydney a few years ago, there was this great feeling of a bunch of people who thought they were the only one realising that they weren’t alone.

It's great to see someone talented from your generation appreciate something I've liked since age 20. My nieces 35 and 45 don't like my music and I'm only ten older, 55. Thanks SF Nancy for the tape u gv me Berkeley marina, we listened to w/ real fog horns behind us. I was a big music guy and Chame- LEONs were not on the radio! At all! On the tape's B side was the Bolshoi LP "Lindy's Party" almost as good...

SOOOOOOO Happy to see you digging this amazing album. It hit me like a ton of bricks at the time.... and still does. EASILY makes my Top 20 albums of all-time. The twin guitars with their hypnotic chiming metronome really hit me in the soul... and paired with the great rhythm section... and Mark's haunting voice... makes for a perfect mix. They were a comet... three fantastic albums... and out. (For a while. They came back and did some wonderful things.) LOVE IT! Looking forward to you experiencing "Second Skin"... considered by a lot of fans to be their best song. Cheers, Justin.
P.S. - At some point you'll have to check out their work after they split up. The two guitarists (Fielding and Smithies) formed a mostly instrumental band called THE REEGS... Very cool stuff... and Mark and John were in THE SUN AND THE MOON. Mark also did some solo albums that were quite good: "Zima Junction" and "Paradying" (w/ Yves Altana) So many great songs to go through!

Really pleased you are listening to this fabulous album, it is one of the greats. I have four copies of this, 2 vinyl, 2 CD, I bought it when it first came out after reading a music press review; it lived up to the hype 100%. The next track will blow you away (as you move forward in order as you do). You'll reflect perhaps (by the end) that they often do songs in two halves - which is a great idea. The Chameleons are one of the greatest bands most people have never heard of. When they do finally discover them they have that gut-wrenching feeling that they've missed out for the last 40 years. I'm getting on a bit now, maybe in my autumn before the winter? I need a mad surge of youth! I'll watch you Justin, reacting to the songs on this album!

Always loved Burgess lyrics, i cant believe i was in Uni at Manchester in thevmid 80s and never saw them live.
Script is a great album, but i suggest you also go to What does anything mean? Basically, Strange Times and The Sun and The Moon.

If you like Chameleons I would give a strong recommendation for The Sound. Their first three albums are great but I would start with their second album From the Lions Mouth.
