@@musicaldracula2017 I don't like new cars, it's the overly dramatic styling. They just refuse to design them with simple lines and smooth transitions.

My wife and I had a 94 that lasted until the wheels were literally getting ready to fall off (Live in the midwest, salt=undercarriage rust). 300k miles, never broke down, not even once. 4 cyl, with manual trans, it got great mileage. Car still ran when we had to get rid of it for safety reasons.
This generation was produced for 1993 thru 1997 model years.I was selling Ford's at the time and this was a looker.Mazda's version was called the MX-6.
So was my dad for a bit...in my mid teens, he'd bring home the glossy Ford promotional brochures and I remember being blown away by the probe gt pics in red.
The Probe was amazing looking and STILL is today! That car holds its good looks 20 years later. I would LOVE to see Ford bring back the Probe but I am sure they would be scared it would cut into their Mustang sales.
@Rick Blythin Awesome man, Probe is definitely better than MX6, the MX6 is okay but I feel from the looks to the way it is designed, the way it handles, performs, feels, just everything, the Probe looks like a Supercar, a real sports car, it is super wide, low but the MX6 is not very pretty, it is a sporty coupe but not a car or super car type like the Probe. The Probe reminds me of a mini C5 Z06 or the 2005 Ford GT ( $150,000) one.
I miss my 91 LX, what a great car. My first car, too. I was so blown away by the power adjustable mirrors and auto-down window at the time. Less amazing was the automatic seatbelts and headlights, but I still have very fond memories of it. The Vulcan 3.0L is a pretty good match for this car, and makes it feel way peppier than it actually is. I'd love to own one again someday, but I think most of them have rusted down to the wheels by now.
I owned both the 1st gen Probe and later this version. Mine was a SE model that was added to the lineup in '95 with the 2 liter engine, but included the upgraded suspension from the GT as well as its sharper front end styling. Loved that car - miss it to this day.
i had the same white probe GT but the 93 model ( 92-93 were the only models you could pop out the headlights with a switch without turning on the light ). was my first car when I turned 18 lol in 2005 lol. No rust on it. Perfectly clean with an optional aerokit with a spoiler. Interior was all blue. It came with a TechRacing muffler. Even the GT with no mods sounds great. The engine sound was unbeatable.
Back in ‘95 when my family and I first came to the States, and when I first layer my eyes on this car, I fell in love 😍 right away. It was my dream car! See I g this Bring back lots of memories:)
Love that Probe GT! my sister had a 95 2.0 5 speed and it was plenty fun to drive, not slow, decent! even the base 2.5 redline at over 7000rpm, a really sweet motor, still a great looking car!
I had the 94' Probe GT with the 2.5l v6..Loved the look and style..The engine was one of the best at that time, but I got eaten up by bigger v6's everytime.
I had one of these, the base model, as a rental car once. The company I worked for had a big contract with Hertz, so I often got nicer rental cars for personal use from them. I stopped at a fast food place on the way from the airport to my parents' house. When I came out to get into the Probe, a bunch of kids were huddled around it as if it were some kind of expensive exotic car. The base styling is the best. Gorgeous car.
I miss my 97 gts 5 spd sooo much bought it in 2007 with 120k sold in 2010 with 170k due to a cross country move still ran great. If i see another one for sale im going to buy it even though i don't need a car just to relive my probe days.
Here in Australia we only saw ones (about 1995 on I think) that looked like the GT and ALL had spoilers and the GT mag wheels. The seats in them as standard were a strange racing style seat that was hard to get in and out of.
These were really nice looking cars.. circa 97 Probe GT with the silver GT sticker with that deep metallic blue paint and black leather seats.. what a sharp car..
Definitely a market for affordable sporty/pony cars. Like the neon srt 4, caliber srt 4, cobalt ss, Hyundai tiburon Tuscani, Mitsubishi eclipse, mitMitsubishi Lancers, Subaru wrx. But companies need to keep the cars affordable, basic and great performance for a small price. And a turbo or supercharged v4 or v6 with easy to find upgrades. So anyone can afford one and upgrade it when they have money. It bridges a gap for people who cant afford a v8 pony or muscle car and cant afford a luxury high end tuner car like the neon srt 4 etc. The 90s mazda rx7, nissan 300zx are good examples. That's why the cobalt ss was so popular compared to the better neon srt 4. Because of price. The cobalt ss was cheap, not fancy, quick, easy to mod, cheap to fix and it was easily driven 12 months a year any weather because of the fwd. Though awd would of been best of both worlds and made it more fun but would of cost more
Great team work with Mazda to leverage Japanese technical elements and styling with North American sensibilities. Unfortunately, as with most Ford's (and other cars of the era), the poor metal and paint failings often resulted in premature rusting - especially in Northern climates with salt roads. Awesome shape... somewhat super car inspired with a timeless quality.
The GT with the 3 spoke wheels had the only directional wheels on both sides of the car (from the factory). Made for such a great look with both sides of the car having wheels going the same direction.

I keep looking for a clean but cheap SHO, (2nd gen mtx,) they look like fun.
PGTMR2 That is true. I just like how the SHO motor looks in the bay, as well it has a great sound, and quite unique. My Dad bought a silver SHO in 92 and as a teen-ager it was such an awesome car to me. Especially when I'd take it out and consistently beat my friends 5.0L mustang haha. Also gas station attendants usually freaked out when they popped the hood to check the oil, and had a lot of questions about the motor/car.
I ordered a ‘94 Probe GT 5 speed in Vibrant White. Virtually identical to the test car. My first car as a new lieutenant in the USAF. Was fortunate to be stationed for a bit in coastal CA while I owned the car. It was made for CA twisties!! Loved that car…albeit a bit underpowered…certainly by today’s standards.
I have one. A 95 24v full spec top trim OEM... And for a 25yr old car. 👌.. It's way ahead of its time. And the styling is a beauty. 6L/100km... Nippy, that V6 sound amazing. And above all... POP POP POP UP HEADLIGHTS 😏
Most people don’t even know what a Probe is, while the Mustang is one of the only cars Ford now produces. The customers did Ford a huge favor in that rebellion
I had a 1994 Ford Probe GT in "Wild Orchid" color (purple). It was on Car and Driver's 10 best cars list. That car was quick, cornered excellently. Except for traffic jams, I had fun everywhere I drove. I hated trading that car in. I am 6`2" and it was a little short on leg room. It had a lot of electrical problems though. The gas gauge was... peculiar.
+BadlndsBob HAHA, some British cars like the Jensen Interceptor were like that apparently where you'd prod the fuel gauge and suddenly you'd go from having no petrol to a half or even full tank LOL.
Samthebam4044 Really? One time I pulled onto the interstate with 3/4 of a tank. One minute later, "Sorry, just kidding, you tank is empty!" So, I had to keep track of my tank's volume in other, less dependable, ways.
What's going on with the audio, I've noticed many of the retro reviews of late are either in the left or right channel. This one is predominantly left channel until about 4:30, then the right channel cut in. I appreciate faults in the source, especially if it was a stereo recording but the stereo has desegregated, however, this should be easy to compensate for by summing the channels into a mono mix. Really enjoying the retro reviews, please keep them coming.
The big problem with this car was the Mitsubishi ignition in the 4 cylinder. The ignition module was included inside the distributor. It got so hot that it would burn the module up. Leave you totally stranded. I finally fixed mine by running the control wires to a GM HEI ignition mounted on the fender well.
That white GT looks so slick. In a sea of dull grey crossovers, I'd be over the moon to drive one today. Regulations and market demands make a FWD NA V6 powered coupe with exceptional visibility and low weight an impossibility these days. Maybe the 86 twins are the closest we have today. They're a little faster to 60, brake and handle better and have the benefit of more modern engineering, but they are compromised in their own ways -a portly somewhat bloated crash-friendly design being one of them. Ah well, it was a nice segment of vehicles, lost to time.
They really were cool little cars. I had 3 from age 16-25 (93 base, 93 GT, 96 GT) and loved all 3. Never gave me any problems and the 5 spd GTs could definitely hold their own back in the day. Good luck finding a nice example of one nowadays though....☹️
I had both a first gen and second gen probe. First ones were gutless and poorly assembled, but I loved my '95 GT! That Mazda powertrain was the start of my conversion to imports...went to an Acura TSX after that.
I test drove one of those when it was brand new a 93 model back in 93 when my dad was looking for a first car for me. I liked it, they wouldn't give my dad the deal he wanted.
Brad Falkner introduced in 1992 as a 93 model year. at the time of this review it was also possible that the second generation would be introduced for 92 model year
I remember the Mustang came close to being replaced by this car. Thank God that never happened! The '93 Probe was Motor Trend Car of the Year. Just four years later, Ford canceled the Probe.

I have one. A 95 24v full spec top trim OEM... And for a 25yr old car. 👌.. It's way ahead of its time. And the styling is a beauty. 6L/100km... Nippy, that V6 sound amazing. And above all... POP POP POP UP HEADLIGHTS 😏
Pop-ups!!!!

or with my cat delete, more like bzzzzz-bzzzzz
I've always like this car. I remember seeing one in red, beautiful car.
I think my neighbor has the same car in pinkish red that he has used for years in his daily commute to Uranus.
I had one of these in alpine green 2.5 ltr V6 from new in 1996 in the U.K.. a fantastic car.
I always loved the shape of this car. I used to have the Mazda MX6 twin of the Probe.
+ULCC I can relate I daily a 95 mx6
I had a 1988 MX6
These two were my wish back in the '90s, but couldn't afford either. Now that I can, they're no longer made =(
I farted in my bestie's Probe back in '93. OMG, the stench stuck around well into '95!
My second car... I loved that car!
I test drove one of those when it was brand new a 93 model back in 93 when my dad was looking for a first car for me. I liked it, they wouldn't give my dad the deal he wanted.
This is a review of the '93 Probe, which was entirely different than the '92.
Brad Falkner introduced in 1992 as a 93 model year. at the time of this review it was also possible that the second generation would be introduced for 92 model year
Had a 93 gt anniversary blue got 400 000 km out of it great car great handling still miss it
Drove a Probe GTS once. Lots of fun.
Great upload, thanks! Any chance you upload the first gen also? please?
Gorgeous cars back then. They still look good today.
It looks lovely in white...
Move aside Chiron, take a seat Regera, the Probe is here. Best car of 2016
I miss my 93 Probe GT. What a great car
É um carro lindo maravilhoso jeito luxuoso que chama atenção 👍😁
If this was a Mustang people would hate it. Since it’s not, we love it. Second gen especially.
my girlfriend had a 93' GT and I remember the suspension to be very stiff and roll free, great handling car for a front driver.
My left ear loves the review
This was $15k for the GT back in 92, what was the price of a Mustang GT back then? Had to been really close in price?
This was a great beater! Had a 1995 Probe. It was the first car I ever drove on the street. That thing took off!
POP UP HEADLIGHTS
Great looking car, if it were RWD it might be worth getting an old one and fixing it up.
I always like the looks of these...but where have they all gone? I haven’t seen a Probe in about 15 years...
I saw and old one just yesterday! Was probably a 91'. It was fairly clean but not in showroom condition.
I remember the Mustang came close to being replaced by this car. Thank God that never happened! The '93 Probe was Motor Trend Car of the Year. Just four years later, Ford canceled the Probe.
