    This was a great video with clear instruction. I just started playing with a group of very patient people who are willing to teach me the rules. There are about 20 of us who rotate players, and no one cares what level you’re at. We just want to play, get some exercise and have fun. I love it.

    I'm going to an event this weekend with pickleball as one of the activities. This confirmed that I'll be sitting it out. Very thorough video, well done! I'm just very slow with this stuff. 😅 I'm still really impressed with the video and appreciate how well thought out it was. I might be able to understand what I'm watching better at the event! I too, find it difficult to understand the points and who should serve. Your reaction time must be at optimal level to succeed at this game. The courts are filled with excellent players early. Try coming during the hottest part of the day and you can find a court to play on.

    Thanks for the info. First half made a lot of sense but once that scoring info hits, damn, lol. As someone who knows tennis and table tennis, I get it, just needed a rewatch of that section, but its so convoluted. Examples are great to clarify but then the exception start game with 0-0-2 is dropped in which adds potential confusion… i think extra clarification is needed at that point… such as mentioning that its because the start only has one player serve before the switch… thats why it starts with 0-0-2, rather then 0-0-1.

    Thanks! Do you always serve to the same landing box or do you switch to serving to the other side (opponent) after a point is scored like in tennis?
    Also, how many attempts when you are serving?

    • @playpickleball-com
      @playpickleball-com  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You always serve cross court. But you will not always serve from the same side of the court. The player who starts the game on the right will always be even (score) when serving from the right and odd when serving from the left.
      One attempt at the amateur level. Pros have recently implemented a “let” meaning you get a do over only if the serve clips the tape and lands in.

    Pretty good video covering the basics in 5 minutes! It might have been better to say it is the Non volley zone, also referred to as the kitchen because the official name is the non volley zone, not visa versa. Showing the return and run and serve and stay is so important, and seeing it done on the video should help those that come from tennis and just stay back and never get to the nvz. At the end of the video when you explain the 0-0-2 , you say "server 2". Some might watch the video and think they would actually say zero zero server 2. Otherwise it is another good video.

    • @playpickleball-com

      Thank you for your feedback Sandra. We feel like in the video we properly referred to both names (non-volley zone and kitchen). Not sure what you meant by that critique. The area is MOST commonly referred as the kitchen but is also referred to as the non volley zone (officially) is what we were getting at with the order.
      Thank you for your feedback! Our hope is to learn and become as possible for future videos.

      @@playpickleball-com It was a comment not really a critique, but it's like a person's legal name is Robert, but he goes by Rob (or mine is Cassandra, but I am referred to as Sandy). The proper name is the Non Volley Zone, but it is referred to as the kitchen (which no one knows why). That was the main idea, the real meaning first, and then what others call it second. You all are doing a great job on the videos.

    Great video, but one thing confuses me. If you lose a rally, why doesn't the other team score a point? In the example given, if it's 5-3-1 at the start of the rally and the serving team loses, when they switch servers, wouldn't it be 5-4-2, not 5-3-2?

    • @playpickleball-com

  • @not_glad
    @not_glad 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So basically modified tennis rules with squash/badminton traditional scoring methodology.
    Questions;
    When can the kitchen zone be legally entered following a volley?
    Is sledging allowed? (Saying mean things to your opponent to gain psychological advantage)
    Is backhand serving allowed? I'm assuming overarm isn't legal.

    • @playpickleball-com
      @playpickleball-com  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes. As long as your momentum doesn’t carry you into the kitchen after a volley you can enter it again after your opponents contact the ball. “sledging” as you define it is allowed in some instances but referees can offer verbal warnings in officiated matches.
      Serving backhand is illegal as long as the swing path and contact point meets the requirements.

    Okay my wife and I started to play and there are some questions I have. After watching a professional pickleball tournament on TH-cam some things I saw the pros do, do not align with what I have learned. Video I am referencing my concerns th-cam.com/video/RARj0Xnebqc/w-d-xo.html
    I was taught that when you serve you have to remain on your side and you must not be on your teammates side. However, I was again watching the pros and this woman was on her teammates side when she served. (4:02 mark in the attached video link)
    Lastly, I saw the same guy continuously going on his teammates side and returning the ball essentially not allowing her to hit it. I found it so rude and my wife and I were both confused by this. I didn't know why he didn't just let his teammate return the ball but instead he literally was way on her side in front of her stealing the return. What's up with that? (4:43 mark in the attached video link)
    His play was extremely annoying because he kept doing this. Are pickleball rules different from person to person or?

    • @playpickleball-com
      @playpickleball-com  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. The line down the middle of the court is mainly for the serve. You do not have to play on your side.
      Many people will play more than half of their court for the sake of strategy. Doing this is a way to cover up weak or attackable areas (i.e. someone’s forehand in the middle coming yo the other side of the courts to cover that players backhand.
      At the higher level it is creates more offense and openings on the court. Most players learn to play their side when first starting out but that starts to change as you get more advanced.

    The only thing I got confused on is non-volley zone. If you hit the ball BEFORE you land your front foot into the non-volley zone, that would be considered a 'foul' or 'end game'. Makes sense if your foot lands on the non-volley zone first and then you hit the ball back, that would be an 'losing' game for the rule breaker.

    If you are server 1 and on the right side of the court you score will always be even. Not 5-3-1,you said your score wrong or out of rotation. Otherwise great video. Thanks

      Yes we chose a random combination of numbers to show the progression of scoring vs not scoring but understand what you are saying and see how that could be confusing.

    Cor blimey.... goodness gracious me.....what thaaa heck....I think I would get the hang of it better once I actually play the game... especially as I already play badminton...I got the kitchen bit and more tho... just from watching other videos. This explanation is a bit too long winded for me tho 👀

    Why do you say 0-0-2 at the beginning if the first server is on the right and is actually the 1 person serving. I hear this all the time but it makes No sense to me.😂

    • @playpickleball-com
      @playpickleball-com  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The game begins at 0-0-2 (on second server) because you can only score on your serve. If you begin at 0-0-1 it gives the serving team a big advantage

    I'm supposed to play pickleball tomorrow and I hoped to learn how before showing up to play with total strangers.
    Now after watching this video, I have no clue what to do. I don't even want to go now. Thanks for making the most confusing and awful video I've ever watched.
    You did a horrible job explaining anything about the sport.

      I would still encourage you to go. This video has helped many other as you can see in the comments. But people learn differently. Some people need to just get out there and do it to learn.
