    You probably should have mentioned that during an Erne attempt you cannot touch the lines around the kitchen or go in the kitchen (unless the ball has bounced of course). I've been playing for 4 months and have a couple ATPs, but I've yet to get an Erne...

      Yes, that Erne confused me because he jumped the kitchen line without a bounce, so he did not actually get an Erne, correct??

    • @jkeiffer
      @jkeiffer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@doreenmurphy1066 the ball doesn't have to bounce and usually never will on an Erne attempt. You just can't touch the kitchen or the lines with your feet while doing it or afterwards, must contact the ball on your side of the net. So it is an Erne. Hope that helps.

    You cannot talk about the dink without also talking about grip. New players grip the paddle way to strong, the dink uses a 3/10 grip tightness to ensure the ball stays low. You also didn't talk about an aimpoint for the dink...the opponents feet.

    Addicted to the game. I struggle with returning hard, spinning service shots from opponents. Mostly men who love to play the crazy hard game … with very little dinking. My return tends to be too long ….

    • @thatpickleballguy
      @thatpickleballguy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its not as much about returning hard. Returning deep is good because whats most important is giving yourself time to get up to the kitchen after you hit the return.

    • @DanKaschel
      @DanKaschel 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Remember that the ball has to bounce in each court. The reason for that is to decrease the advantage of serving. So you can lob it back and they need to wait for it to bounce.

      Great question. You don't have to let the ball bounce in the kitchen. You can take it out of the air as long as your feet are behind the kitchen line. Great tips. My question to you is concerning the kitchen. Can you reach in to take a hall out of the air while not moving past the kitchen line? Can you run through the kitchen after running in for a volley, as your momentum brings you in after you have returned the ball? Also, I have noticed players running through the kitchen when hall on opponent’s side to reposition themselves. What are the kitchen rules regarding these three observations? TY

    • @thatpickleballguy
      @thatpickleballguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes you can reach in to take a ball out of the air while not moving past the kitchen line. Can you not run into the kitchen after hitting a volley if your momentum brings you in. Ive noticed that when I dink my opponent returns the dink over my head to the base line...how do you handle that shot? Its hard to reset from a base line return if they keep doing that shot.

    • @thatpickleballguy
      @thatpickleballguy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OO, that is a tough shot, try to keep your dinks as low as possible so that the lob they hit won't be able to go over your head as easily!

      I see the bangers smash at the kitchen line all the time but I rarely see them lob it to a corner for a point (or dink for that matter- they just wanna smash it). This sounds like a good strategy against bangers- what do you think Kyle?

    How do you slow down the game to dinking with beginners who are just driving shots that everyone is missing? Not sure if I explained it right.

    • @thatpickleballguy
      @thatpickleballguy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If they drive it at you (and it's going in), then block the ball down to the ground. Avoid big swings, just short punches. Now, if they move in to take that next ball and look to drive it hard again. Number 1, it's probably going out, but if it's not, then block it again. By this point they will be closer to the net and forced to dink more. If they try to hit it super hard again, its definitely going out. For more dinking to happen, you have to show you can handle their drives! And you do that by blocking the ball down into the court and force them to come in to the net.

    New player. How does the Erne not break the rules? I though you had to stay out of the kitchen unless the ball bounces there first.

      You just can't be in the kitchen. You can just through the kitchen or run around it. that is okay! th-cam.com/video/ShAIo7efwyA/w-d-xo.html Check out this video for more on this shot!

    Has anyone ever gotten a tweener ATP? I'd imagine that's quite rare, even for a pro! Also, Is there a Bert (or...Burt -the opposite of erne)? I heard an announcer say it, but...maybe he was kidding.

    Help. shot 3, don't get the 'get down, stay down.' He looks like he's barely bending his knees. Is that what is meant by 'down'? - this slight knee bend? I guess it is, since he said you don't want to stand up full straight due to limited ball bounce.
