@@seeox8496 Well, if you'll entertain me, then... I think watching Advent Children was the first time I saw the fandom that was existing for FF7 work in real-time. Those years were very revealing to me about Square Enix's business model, future plans, and the path they paved forward for the game series. Just to give you a real feeling of what it was like, so you may sympathize, 2005 was THE year for Final Fantasy VII if you asked any fan that read forums or ran fan sites. We. All. Wanted. Advent. Children. We were pulling down trailer videos and trying to find ways to host these trailers and, hell, even the movies. Answering more directly now, Advent Children takes a lot of things that happen in FF7 and uses them as a way to build Cloud up again, since only really Cloud and Marlene really get character progression in this movie, when it could have been a real movie that answers the question the game was really about. For example, Imposter syndrome is something every one always deals with, and getting over that hurdle is one thing. I think resolving Cloud's trauma with Zack and Aerith is the path to go for, but shoving in Sephiroth as a crowd favorite isn't the way to do it. What they don't talk about is how Imposter Syndrome manifests as a result of loss. Cloud's relationship to Zack is extremely overlooked but it seems to be at the core of what the character should be about. Cloud is very good, don't get me wrong, but his near-obsession with Zack was never really a healthy alternative to a good life for a Farm boy from Nibelhiem. Cloud should have been deconstructed as a character, not given the same weight-class fight. Writers tend to tone things down for deconstruction, though, and Advent Children needed action. The logical flaw is that they thought it needed to serve the original game -- and that may be true, but not at the cost of a sequential, understandable story that showcases a character study, through an RPG, of a victim of heavy trauma. Its almost irresponsible. It simply skips the moments of absolute horror he faces, and he remains stoic throughout it all. I think Advent Children and VIIR are both good in their own rights, but I would never consider them proper sequels or continuations of VII. I like to think of them like anime movies. Nice, neat little side stories, as I really believe they contribute in a fairly big way to the social stigma of being a person with emotions among the other reasons I've listed. Cloud's journey should be far more tenacious and emotional than is portrayed in AC and frankly anything since.
