Thinking about purchasing but have a curious question. In mesh mode (2+ Express devices), can I connect a G5 bullet camera to an express device via POE on the LAN port?
@@fumes007 You'll need a PoE injector, but the LAN port should extend the network. Willie Howe is going to be doing a bunch of testing this week and releasing a video.
HUGE Hat Tip to you on telling us about Chris at CrossTalk who did the PoE test This is EXACTLY what we need in this industry, people referring to each other to give us a more complete full 360 degree view of products The truth is, most of us frequent all 3 places, yourself, Chris and Willie (people in the know who I am referring too) Your ability to reference and even point people to other channels makes me want to come to you first, more and more
Superb video! Thank you for answering these questions. UniFi Express at 149 seems a great value. Site magic looks sweet I didn’t realize UBNT even had that feature.
Does the LTE Pro do rouritng and wifi ? What about VPN connectivity to other networks? Personally looking for some thing I can stick a sim card in and pull out of my travel bag when I need Internet or connectivity back home@@MactelecomNetworks
I would be interested to see how well this does with other unifi APs. I know it doesn’t have poe but with some injectors I could see this with a couple U6s making for a relatively high performance setup on a budget.
Express vs U6 mesh for a home mesh WiFi network? Which would you use Cody? I think the 2x2 vs 6x6 mimo I’m ok with. Also don’t mind the no POE on express. Express is cheaper. Thoughts?
Can you explain how to setup a Magic Site to Site VPN and then a rule to have the internet traffic from the remote site go over the site to site vpn to the main site?
Just use a cheesey wifi extender, like a Netgear ex2700, to make this a travel router. The extender can connect to public wifi (as long as that wifi isnt a captive portal!) and then connect the extenders ethernet port to the WAN port of the UX. Where there's a will...
Will this device support having Nord VPN on it and will site magic still work if nordvpn is active? Another situation, could you set up three routers at separate locations in different province and use site magic to push all Netflix and TH-cam traffic through the main subscription location but keep other traffic out their WAN?
I enjoy your videos, question on the unifi exress, because it's bluetooth, will it support connection to the protect sensor that connects only by bluetooth if you are running protect? The dream router is listed as a bluetooth supported access but it does not yet say the new express is also. I would think it is since it would be similar to the dream machine but don't want to invest in the express and the sensor and find out they are incompatible. I have a udm pro running protect currently, thanks
Is there a way around the 5 client devices? I was looking at this but it would plug into the 16 port lite switch from there, there would be 3 ap’s and 3 flex minis. Is there something I’m missing about the adopting structure? Thanks
I’m sure they would still adopt but will most likely tell you that you’ve hit your limit. I’m just waiting on some gear but will try and connect more than 5 and see what happens
I havent used site magic yet. But is there a way that I could hook up the express to a lan connection at a hotel connect my laptop to it via wifi and tunnel all traffic through an other site? Reason is that I dont want my Laptop to use the public IP from the hotel but only from my home location.
You said that the UniFi Dream Router will run Identity. How did you get that to work my Router doesn’t have the option, I even forced installed it through ssh but it wouldn’t let me configure it.
Hmm I could be wrong but you can run identity on the base UDM. On the UDR you can only run two applications at a time. Is your UDR on the latest firmware version?
Great videos! Quick question… Does the Express support the WifiMan iOS app? (I guess Android also has this app?) I hope the answer is yes because this would be a great tool to very quickly demo/test wifi coverage for my family/friends that I give advice too. It would also be super portable. Meaning great to demo how an AP position can make big differences.
@@MactelecomNetworks yeah that would be awesome to confirm this before I commit the purchase/s. I guess when they are in AP mode under the control of a DM-P/SE (dream machines have a UI option to enable it) it works with WifiMan app. But I hope they also work when the Express units are on their own (aka the unit is working in its all-in-one mode rather than just AP mode). Either-way this look like a good purchase for a travel hotel router/AP for me and my family (Hate/avoid using public wifi).
@@MactelecomNetworks awesome! I purchased 2 the other day, it would be great to wire the two of them together then the one as the gateway, one as an AP. Then be able to run a small switch off the one functioning as a AP behind an entertainment center or something along those lines. This would avoid having to mesh them altogether seems like something that should be included otherwise its just a wasted port :-) love the content!
Yeah it tanked the throughput, and real world it was more like 120. But the option should still be there to enable it if the end user wants to do so.@@MactelecomNetworks

Site magic has only been out for a few months now but is awesome
It needs a 4G/5G sim slot, then it will be truly a travel router
Could use the LTE pro

LTE pro can insert a SIM card?
I'd pay $300, maybe more, for this unit with a sim slot and decent 5g radio
That would really open this out as a small deployment option with a fall back connection!

I solved it by tethering from my phone, because hotel wifis are always terrible.
No captive portal login capability means it’s not a travel router. Wired Ethernet is nonexistent in almost all hotels.
Is it possible to add the Express to a cloud hosted controller to replace it as a USG?
If you disable IDS/IPS on the UDR, what is its routing performance?
That seems like a way to equalize the routing comparison between the UDR and UX.
With IDS/IPS disabled they easily max out the gig ports. With everything enabled they do around 700ish on average.
I am curious if this router can handle a pppoe gigabit connection
I’m considering the UX has an additional WiFi AP to my home network (managed by a UDR). Would it be a better AP choice than a U6+?
I already have a key2+. Can I use the express as a router +AP and leave network to the cloudkey? I have 6 devices so I'm over the limit of 5.
Perfect info roundup. Efficient video love it
Using a UX as a wireless mesh node, are both ports available for wired devices or just the LAN port?

It doesn't run protect so I doubt it will interface with any of that.
Can the Express be used to extend a wireless network created by a UDM (mesh) ?

@@MactelecomNetworks Awesome thanks cant wait to hear.
Could bump up to the UDR for more Ethernet and PoE, and added bonus you get 4x4 MIMO.
True, I don’t like that the UDR is capped at 700gb. My plan was to run this as you would a pro or se. the price point was very appealing.
Can it run a PPPoE session on WAN? (typical DSL deployment in Germany)
Any idea what chipset is in this as it’s conspicuously missing from the spec sheet whereas the UXG-Lite does list the CPU? Thanks.

Can you adopt it into a cloud controller and not use the embedded controller?
You could use a microtik mAP to connect to wifi and pass to the wan port.
Could I still run my Cloudkey Gen2 running Protect?

Can I just buy this as my APs instead of their dedicated APs?¿

The UXG lite is more so a replacement to the USG
No, its a mini udm router with wifi6 ap built in.
does the WAN Port function as a LAN Port if you are using it wired in via AP mode?

Theres ZERO reason for it to be missing IDS/IPS, the paperweight known as USG3 even has it.
