I’ve never seen a UniFi product make so many people so angry. Some rooms don’t need Fort Knox security - some people just want an audit trail on a door (ie. lunch room, copy room, etc.) and aren’t worried about their employees dismantling the reader to bypass it!
Thanks! This was awesome! I would love to see more UniFi access installs. There aren’t many videos detailing that product. It’s almost only network that get the spotlight. But I think this is a very cool part of the UniFi ecosystem
I use several of these now. I used them with a storeroom lock. Its always locked on the outside and you can open from the inside without the push to exit button.
The camera integration is neat. Would be amazing if you could use one of the UI AI cameras to open an Access Ultra door solely based on face detection!
Something I'd love to know is if you can schedule doors to lock or unlock. Thinking primarily about multi-use spaces where some rooms need to be closed to access over the weekend.
Great stuff Cody, would like to see more Access stuff. Maybe I want to use some of the features at home :). Good that you say "low security". People often think that if a solution as a lock is excellent because it's a lock/switch/trigger.
Look like good little reader😊 but even with the tamper switch it very easy to open the door without tag. One Technical question what is the technique to use the new bell hub just like modem? Now bell don’t give sfp module anymore. Thank’s for your great job.😊
I can’t help but want to make some way for the wires to be just the right length so if someone removes the unit, the wires that lead to the strike plate pull loose somewhere out of reach making it impossible to use them to open it from there. But honestly, it’s the appearance of security more than actual security, we want things to be locked up to the point that if someone gains access, they leave evidence of it. I mean so many secure rooms even with hardened doors have simple drywall right beside them, it’s super easy to knock a hole in two layers of drywall. Same with any house, how hard is it to break a window, the point is, you set the alarm off and make noise and there is always evidence of break in.
Does the camera linking only work if UI Access is on the UNVR that the cameras are on, or would it still work if the cameras are on a UNVR and UI Access was on the UDMP?
Soon I will break ground on a new house I am building for my house. I plan on using UniFi for networking and security. Do they offer door access for residential front door? I cannot find much info on this.
I know this is mainly for commercial apps. However, would this make sense for a door between an attached garage and the house? That is our main entry point. We normally keep the garage doors closed.
Sure would! Just know that again, this is low security, as all you need to do is pull it off the wall and connect the two wires for the strike or mag together and you will have an unlock. So whether you think that’s okay to have on the main entrance to your home, that is up to you! A motion detector in the garage would be recommended
Does it have a terminal to land a door contact? Without a door open/close sensor and a sensor to confirm entry, it really is a 'keyless' entry system. I work in access control and am certified in a range of different products. There is big difference between keyless entry and true access control. The unifi gear intrigues me due to the breadth of options but it seems to be a game of does a lot but not enough to challenge the main players in any given area. That said, most small businesses and residential don't need more than they offer so there is clearly a market for it.
I always wonder how to improve the network security when having basically an Ethernet cable outside of your house for those things. What’s a recommended way to secure the network against someone just plugging in their device?
There are setting on pretty much all switches worth their weight to lock down ports. You can even lock down ports to specific Mac addresses which any good tech would do for permanent equipment
Have you found that the Ultra does not have the same unlock options as the Hub doors? The Hub doors allow unlocking for longer time periods, while the Ultra door does a simple unlock.
I heard back from Ubiquiti Support: Please note that UA Ultra currently doesn't support the temporary unlock feature that's available for the UA Hub and UA Hub Door. This will be made available in a future device version update. Please stay tuned to our official UI Community Release page.
Great video as always! Can you do a video on the Mobile Router Industrial next please? Just got it and love it. The unlocked sim slot is clutch. Wish it was eSIM but can't win them all.
I was looking at these for a garage door opener. I don't need it to be super secure, but I find it hard to get info on what the garage door openers use for voltage; I almost need a relay version or UI to make a garage door-specific Access hub.
@@jesuislejoseph I did see that, but I don't need the $700 price and all the extra stuff; I just need a reader and relay to connect to the existing push buttons.
I have a standard UA-Hub running with my garage door opener with a G2 reader on the outside wall (around £300 total, so yes a little more than the Ultra Reader). The garage door opener has a simple switch terminal connection that works perfectly with the DRY AUX connection on the UA-Hub and can now easily open the door with mobile tap!.. whereas the Ultra Reader seems to provide only 12V on the lock terminals.. if your garage door opener is anything like mine you could potentially fry the board if you put 12V across what maybe designed as a "switch" to close a normally open circuit. It's slightly annoying as the Ultra Reader is far cheaper a solution, but given you can pull the reader off the wall and either short the access terminals (or simply add 12V power to the cable going to the opener) it isn't really a good solution for external use.
@@nrjonesy nice to see someone also had my idea. The 12VDC is my problem as I need a momentary switch, and the openers in the USA seem to use 24VAC. The door I am opening isn't super secure as you can open the manual door with no lock out in the countryside, so people can stop worrying about taking it off the wall I want it for the “smart” features.
Low security is even an overstatement. A more or less cardboard door surrounded by drywalls, if I stumble and fall towards the door or the wall I’m in there anyway. An access device makes sense where you can’t poke holes in the wall or the door in half a second, but then, an access device which can be tampered with so easily has no benefit, nowhere. Nice gadget, yes but nothing more.
There are no foolproof security solutions. Any lock or obstacle is simply a matter of time before it can be defeated. If you have a need for a higher level of security, you must have 24/7 monitoring and many other layers. There are many low security environments that these would be completely appropriate.
@@MactelecomNetworks lol, I feel that. I've installed several, most came out clean but 2 of them I really could have used the goof plate/trim to make it look a little better.
I love Ubiquiti, i have whole network on Unifi, sold hundreds of devices, but this is a bit disapointment ....anyone with a half of brain can open the door, you just need 12V DC battery in your pocket , just rip that thing of wall ( dont care about tamper, that's not gonna stop you going in and stealing / destroying stuff in server room or anything behind door equiped with this ) and connect the battery directly to wires from the lock, BAM you are in...... not the safest solution :-/
Little disappointed in Utah ability to be defeated so easily. However… I don’t think the general public and or employees or off the street thieves/burglars have any clue as to “access” to knowing & cleverly bypass one of these.. The appearance of security is a strong deterrence. I’ve heard that in the ether.. but consideration for this all in one “kinda” product as cheap as its price, and still has a unique value to fit some door “I guess”…
Good that you mentioned 'low security' here. That tamper switch is pretty...bypassable.
Yeah that's just a terrible location for a tamper switch. Why would they put it in a place that's accessible through the locking tab slot??
Its a button on the back of the reader
if the hub was in the exit button it would be more secure
But it's not? If you remove the hub the door remains locked?
