At the core of this, I believe there is a logical fallacy with most musicians and celebrities, that because they were successful with one aspect of their career, mean they will be successful with another. That is not always the case!
I once dreamed about owning a puzzle bag and thought the Loewe‘s prices are reasonable. However, as it has become an LVMH company I have seen the price rise by about 400€ within a year. And now that they are even discontinuing the original design to replace it by the Puzzle Edge that doesn’t need all of the pieces of the original, I just give up. I own a preloved one (not the colour I originally wanted and I am just not the expert to tell whether it really is a real one) and a dupe (unbranded). As for the Speedy: I feel sorry that LV‘s heritage, i.e. their canvas pieces, seems to become the pieces that aren’t really the ones that should be desirable. If fakes are the inspiration, I’d rather go for the original which in that case are the fake bags. To be honest, I refuse to give my money to the millionaires, so it will be preloved or smaller companies for me.
Well, LVMH purchased Loewe all the way back in 1996, and the Puzzle was seen only in 2014. I think the main issue is a change in strategy on the part of LVMH, one which is based on this new concept of ‘extreme value creation’ that seems to be becoming the rule in the luxury industry, whereby sales/outlets are to be avoided, and where drastic price increases don’t scare people away, but instead only increases brand desirability.
@@graygolding Thanks for this information! To me it was just crazy to observe the price increase while I kept dreaming about owning one. I was very close to buying one in a boutique for 2450€ last year (medium sized), but I couldn’t justify the price back then. At its current price of close to 3000 it is just out of my league. Thanks to the alleged discontinuation, prices on the second-hand market are very close to retail prices. Admittedly, FOMO is very real and the game Loewe is playing seems to work for them for now. I just wonder how far they can push it. And while I wouldn’t have considered fake bags a couple of years ago, I actually toy with the idea right now as there are still fakes available that seem to be more intricate than the edge, still have feet and the second d-ring that were rationalised away for the smaller sizes, and thus are closer to the original design than the bags available in boutiques. Make it make sense 😂 …

To be able to say you can… its all very sad and superficial, with brand marketing preying on the weaknesses of character of consumers to lire them in to believing they need these things in order to be allowed to feel good about themselves and to feel like they belong to some exclusive club. Very superficial and sad.
I always felt like luxury companies get a piece from the fakes because why would they be this ok with even showcasing or talking about them so openly and now even getting “inspired” by the fake industry. Something is definitely off.
