- The Sony XAV-AX5500 is a 7" capacitive touchscreen, digital multimedia receiver.
When looking to upgrade the reciever in your car or truck, the 5500 makes the perfect choice. In addition to the Am/FM tuner with 30 presets, the unit is Bluetooth enabled to stream music from your phone, has 2 USB inputs to hardwire your smartphone or flashdrive, and is SiriusXM ready, however you will need to purchase the satellite tuner separately.
The 5500 works with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, to be able to access navigation and music streaming services on your smart device. new for the 5500 is that it also works with WebLink Cast, a free app that will allow the receiver to mirror the screen on your phone. With WebLink Cast you will be able to use more app from your phone such as TH-cam.
Sony also improved voltage output for additional upgrading. Most head units only put out 1-2 volts for any pre-amp outputs, the 5500 has 3, 5 volt pre-amp outputs. With the additional power, less gain is required from the amp, giving you a much clearer sound.

Just ordered a ax5000, then immediately changed my order for the 5500. Seemed like a no brainer for only an extra $40.

Just put this exact radio in my 2020 Tundra. Without yet replacing the stock speakers, the sound was a huge improvement over the garbage Toyota uses.
I’m ordering this for my 2018 Tacoma with the plug and play kit from trail grid pro. Do all your factory settings work in the menu options?

still no wireless AA or carplay and its 2020..
almost perfect... just needs a dual camera input and wireless CarPlay or AA. Having the physical buttons of the commonly used functions (like volume) is a huge plus though that most manufactures don't do for some reason (or they only have volume but not seek buttons). Don't want to have to exit out of waze app to skip to the next song.
Agree, but you can get a switch toggle to switch the power from front to rear camera, still, not great, but better than just rear camera - assuming your car has space to install a toggle switch
What are some decks that allow downloading of Android apps like Plex or Netflix? When the kids are in the truck it'd be great to put on a movie or TV show.
When mirroring with the 5500 is their audio delay worth the video? How is the resolution?

Neither of the USB pigtails look very long. Are they long enough to route USB port 1 to the cigarette lighter and USB port 2 to the center console of the car?

Hi, I have weblink downloaded on my iPhone 13 an when plugged in to the USB port 1 the weblink picture pops up also on the phone but doesn't fully connect? Just sits there with the spinning download circle like it's about to be activated but freezes? Same head unit sony 5500. Help!

Got the Pioneer AVH-A4450BT instead of this as the only difference is 2v preamp vs 5v preamp, saved some money as I never plan on adding an AMP in my car in the future, but like the thing you said, "more volts less gain needed, cleaner sound" is not true, its a misconception many people have, its for ground and shielding purposes, if your car has an amp and it does sound good, going to an HU with a higher volt preamp would likely just increase the volume which you'll have to set down about, it will only matter if your car has a lot of shielding issues but those are also easily solvable without touching the HU.
for me 5500 is 30$ usd costlier..not big diff...
Facing lot of issue while using nevigation, it's automatically disconnect, how should I resolve this problem??

No TH-cam playback. If you use the useless WebLink app you can mirror the phone to playback videos but you'll hate the primitive app and it's lag...
Other than that the head unit is great for its price and can handle Android auto with no issues. Hope they step up the hardware in the future and stay with it's same design

I noticed that the home screen has Apple CarPlay as the app. Can you change it to Android Drive if your not an Apple user?

@@AshikJonathan Well I have the xav7000 unit which is almost exactly identical to this one, doesn't seem like they made any revisions. It's just the -ax5000 unit updated with weblink.
Which both mentioned models only has one camera input port, and the menu only has one video source to select from, so pretty sure that's a no. As far as my research went, you'd need some type of RCA splitter/ switch unit to combine into one, where you'd have to manually switch to which video source you want displayed from the switcher. That wasn't worth the effort for me so I didn't try.

This video didn't teach me anything new... How do I play music videos on the screen? I see port 1& 2, and Android auto thing, I downloaded web link but I stil can't connect these to play videos... That's what I expected from the video

No. There’s no wireless CarPlay in any XAV model as far as I know.
No only wired Carplay and Android Auto. But you can stream music using Bluetooth if that was also on your mind
