Tom, to stop calves from jumping through feed gates on our farm we put a ratchet strap along the feed gate at a hight where it can still get its head out but not jump out, if that makes any sense. #farmerlifehack

The farm I work at literally has wheelbarrows full of string... if ya ever need a bit, you can find a piece somewhere. I'm always grabbing bits of string for various uses (most recently I have used some to save a broom from certain death)

Tom weave a ratchet strap in between the head diagonal head space uprights on that feeder about halfway and it’ll stop the calves jumping through until they’ve grown abit more 👍

Have you considered a pair(or 3) of coveralls? Just pull them on(over everything) when heading out for the day, peel them off when you're heading back into the house...🤷♀️worked for us. Mostly. Kept the wear and tear off the every day clothes, and the crap to the coveralls.
Not related to this video. Could you explain about the slurry separator. Any advantage to spreading liquid slurry after grazing and cutting back on till (fertilizer).? Solids spread in autumn/early spring.
Close all gates. Farmers first rule. Glad that cow is better, good call by calling the cattle doc! I eat Organic beef here in the States but the meat comes from Canada 100% organic what a difference.
Call the calf bambi, also Tom I think if you could put a bit of sheep wire around a small paddock near the milking parlour, & hang teat feeders on the gate, you would have a short walk with the milk & calves would get grass early, just a suggestion cos I'd say grass would really get those calves thriving.

Great video dude, I had the ripped water proofs with lambs so thought sod it jeans will have to do well that didn't go to plan horn straight though them like the water proves you wouldn't mind the hole but they start to panic which equals one massive hole
