  • Space Shuttle Discovery, atop its Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, NASA 905, is shown from various vantage points around the National Capital region on April 17 on the final leg of its ferry flight from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida to Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

    Thank you again NASA and the countless employees who keep the inspiration alive. The D.C. region got an awesome treat today with the multiple laps made by the 747 & Discovery. I cant wait to get to the Air & Space museum at Dulles and see the shuttle up close ;)

    Looked good - Landing, have to say....I would of been scared to death having a heavy load like that and land that smooth. Nice JOB to all making it possible.

    Discovery will be in an incredible place. If you ever get the chance, come to the Air & Space musuem at Dulles airport.

    Its so sad that the space shuttle program has ended. I think that I can speak for everyone when I say "Discovery, you will not be forgotten."

    This wasn't a practice.. The space shuttle Discovery will replace the Enterprise which is currently the shuttle on display in the Udvar Museum next to Dulles Airport. This was a delivery..

    Still really disappointed that NASA decided to put three retired shuttles on the east coast and one on the west coast and left nothing for middle America. The Adler Planetarium in Chicago would have been a fantastic place for one of the orbiters.

    yeah, i've seen the Enterprise at Dulles, but thats going to New York.

    well.. they DID have a shuttle in the air & space annex at dulles.. the enterprise.. it never flew.. maybe houston will get it as a hand me down?
