    It's hard not to tear up when you see this amazing piece of engineering in person. Makes me immensely proud of my country and its achievements.

      +Chris Harloe I am from the UK, and all of you in America have every right to feel proud of such an amazing piece of engineering, along with the commitment your country has given to the exploration of space. Whenever i think of space, i think of the USA, i am just about old enough to remember the moon landings, and was just leaving school when Columbia first flew with John Young and Bob Crippen, fantastic vehicle, i think it's going to be a long time before we see anything like it again. I would love to come over and see one of the shuttle for myself one day.

      And then you realize that you just voted Donald Trump as your president, and you realize that your country will never be that great again.

      I attended the arrival at Dulles and the delivery at the museum two days later. I can tell you, first hand, that it was one of the best weeks of my life. Having the 747 fly over us at 500 feet, seeing Discovery's wing pass over my head when they rolled her to the ceremony and even contributing to this video (the timelapse of her rolling into the museum at the end is mine), all made for an incredibly memorable experience. I'll never forget it.

    My brother-in-law and I were there for the ceremony. We rode our motorcycles from Pittsburgh. It was a great ending for the most interesting nine years of my life, nine years that began on February 1st, 2003. Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavor..,we made a great team. Thank you for your service.

    The best moment I have ever shared with my son was our first visit to the Air and Space Museum this past July. I have seen a hundred images and built multiple models of the shuttle, some which actually flew but until you see it in person you will never truly understand how magnificent it was.

    In 2013 i was in 5th grade and I had a chance to go see the space shuttle and the smithsonian museums but I never got the chance to see the shuttle cause my flight was delayed for 7 hours so I missed my chance to see it but I still enjoyed the national air and space museum and all the other museums. If and when I have enough money I will go back to Washington D.C. To see what I missed.

    I bought a white and black 2002 honda accord on the day of the final shuttle launch period. I immediately had the windows tinted pitch black, so the car DID remind me of an orbiter. Being a fan of space exploration, I had no choice but to name the car Acceed in honor of all 6 transports: Atlantis, Challenger, Columbia, Endeavor, Enterprise, and Discovery. I was aiming to ad the cars name to a mirror plated vanity tag if I could find someone to cut the tag for me when I suddenly thought that the name Acceed resembled the cars actual make model name "Accord." I figured people would think I was some idiot who didn't know how to spell Accord. LoL

      Well, the shuttle was never made for long range flights. Being much lighter than a Shuttle, an Apollo type craft could reach longer ranges with less fuel requirements.
      Although i am pissed, the Colombia should have been the one in the Smithsonian, given it was the first shuttle to actually launch. Sadly it didn't make it =( The should have retired the Columbia long ago.

    Chaps my ass that we (Houston) didn't get one.. I understand the Smithsonian getting one.. and KSC.. and even California since it was built there.. but why New York?? Houston had more to do with the program than anyone.. New York had dick-all to do with it.. and most there don't care anyway.. We should have get a Shuttle that flew in space, and Enterprise gone to Cali.. And what's with NASA signing over ownership.. Why not just display them in the museums but retain ownership?? After all it's as asset that was funded by our tax dollars.. so we give them away and then have to pay to see them?? not right..

    • @Astro95Media
      @Astro95Media 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As a Texan, I'm proud that Discovery is in the Smithsonian. She's the flagship of the shuttle fleet so her rightful place is in our nation's capital. Florida proudly displays Atlantis in a phenomenal exhibit, which is the best of the four, in my opinion. We Houstonians would have loved to display one, but we have the 747 seen in the video with a full-scale mockup sitting atop her fuselage. In the end, we all won :)
