Surely you gave customers an estimate if you encounter a problem then they should cover the cost to put that right first not you
He was an old bloke and I don't believe in just charging extra. To many conmen do this to the older generation. We agreed a price before the job started and I just got the job done to my best ability
Topman
Not many of you about kirk.! Top bloke 👍
Top guy
integrity at its finest @@Onthetrowel
Be careful with those tuning boxes. It’s basically just a resistor that increases fuel pressure at the rail. You won’t get better fuel efficiency and more power. That’s just the law of physics. Your van might report better mpg but it’s being fooled. If you check your fill to fill amounts for mpg, you’ll find you’ve lost mpg. They also invalidate your vans insurance. If you have an accident and the box is fitted, they won’t pay out.
this reminds me of my house, start one job it leads to replacing the whole house loll
Those corners are insane! Wow - perfection.
Your attention to detail and care for your work comes across strongly on your videos. Well done
Great work Kirk, you mentioned it’s cost you money with extra materials etc but surely can’t you explain to the customer that the bay window was in a terrible state and that you weren’t to know this until you started taking it apart.
So surely that’s the customers place to pay for the unforseen additional work??
Don’t work like that .
@@dragonfitterBut on occasions like this it should, at least to meet in the middle!? Cheers
Love watching your videos mate you do a cracking job, just for future reference though that Dryzone kit is for internal surface mould 👍🏻
Top job, can’t believe them Bricks just sat in the window below, no wonder it cracked 😂
This is what I mean about a good tradesmen love How you don’t cut corners mate do a proper job first time round
He doesn't cut corners, he plasters them...
@@420styletomatoes6 when I say he doesn’t cut corners I mean he does a proper job etc first time round where some do a quick bodged job and you end up with issues
@silverbackgamer1beast572 sorry mate, I was being sarcastic, watched several of this man's videos and he always does a good job.
@@420styletomatoes6 I know mate I was just makeing sure u didn’t misunderstand me mate it’s all good
Gotta love a friendly back and forth over what was a misunderstanding without anyone getting upset or offensive
Have fixed and repaired dozens of bay windows here in Florida, and the cement board base coat and mesh with a top coat is the way to go 👍
You say your not a joiner kirk, i say im not a plasterer but im a multi trade several years in maintenance and put my hand to anything always to the best of my abilities and only attempt something i know im capable of completing to a high enough standard. You mate you killed that finessed it in every way 👌 i bet hes nice and toasty now in that front room bet he was froze before 🥶
Those on about airflow, as long as full fill no airgap needed. What i would recommended on these is to remove the internal plasterboard and fit 25mm insulated plasterboard to help with cold bridging. May have to fit new window boards.
Plasterer, joiner, builder all in one mate 💪🏻
Hi Kirk..I’ve never done k rend before..I presume you have to fill out the beads more with plenty of gear as to scrape it back yeah? By the way,I’m at it 20 years and you’re the best I’ve seen😊👍
Do you ever use other finish coats for render? Here in Australia we do a 3 coat system. It's coat acrylic render hi build then a second skim coat of acrylic render and then we do a coloured texture coat and we float it up with a plastic trowel. We also never use plastic corner beads. Always galvanised aluminium or stainless steel
Very very neat and professional work, just a shame your mate didn't take your advice about safety foot wear and gloves when taking the original bay apart.
Top job i bet it made the world of difference to that room.
Kirk you are first class I hope your customers happy you always do your best for them, anyone could go to work with the knowledge you would not let them down or cover up any carp work.
That’s a cracking job you guys have done ✅
I was on a live of yours and I asked about some black mould in my bedroom the estate agent has now decided thay are going to send a plaster out to have a look thank you for you advice on the situation I have 🔥🔥🔥
Pleasure mate
Love the K98k on the wall. Us plasterers aren't just plasters.😂
Another top job love your videos, keep up the brilliant work, mate
Cant fault it kirk you went above and beyond ,most trades i've come across would of run a mile but you took it on the chin and used your knowledge to provide the best result for the customer, and now with your van with more power you'll have to slow down between jobs cause the render will still be wet 😅 keep up the excellent work kirk 👍🏻 i thought that scrape at the end was the sound of sierra deltas breathing 😅
He sounds like a stalker doesn't he 🤣🤣
Great job Karl! That top bay didn’t need supporting I guess…?
The final scraping is a revelation to me!! 😜
Fair play with regards to the cost mate. Personally I give an estimate. The estimate fully covers the works stated, however it states that any works drastically outside the original scope of works will have to be charged. I don’t think i could be any fairer than that.
That’s what all of us do pal
@@scullo2293you’d be surprised mate, so many of my mates who are in the building game still give set prices. They get caught out all the time if things go wrong, which they inevitably do
@@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot you should only need to do it once 😂 you think they’d learn after the first time
I also wouldn’t be going to another job halfway through the day
@@scullo2293100%, i got caught out on a decorating job, quoted 3 days and was there 7, never again
You're incredible, a true professional. Top workmanship, massive respect.
That does look lovely. Good of you to stick to your price for the old fella Kirk. A true gent.
good job, like the color
Looks lovely 👌
been using 12 mm multipro boards, beautiful product. I use a cheap mini circular saw with a carbide tipped blade and nick a 1mm line in the board and they snap dead easy
Who’d have thought Dark Vader was a 6ft+ burly lad from Ellesmere Port 😂 Looks mint that chaps 👌🏼
I can’t see it working but I hop it dose for you that bay window 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Great work . Do you need to rule that of to get it flat . Like the scratch coat . Or do you just lay it all down . Then scratch it back flat. Been plastering for 20 yrs and never used the product
Hp12 sticks to anything.
Ive splattered some on my vans around 2018 and its still on there and wont come off
Really impressed with the work you do mate I’m 20 years in ,you cover all aspects of work carried out and leaves the customers feeling happy which it’s all about give me a call anytime if you need a lift 👊🏻
I've just found your channel and it's fantastic. I'm not in thevtrade I'm in IT. I love watching how things ate done, and learning. I have to say though your so darn good, not just your job, your a great people person. Keep up the great work.
That's very kind of you to say. Glad you enjoy the content and thanks for the nice comment 🙂
Great video of a proper tradesman at work. When you mix your various products can you show the bags with the labels. Thanks.
Sure thing!
im not a joiner but best way to get snug angles ive found to run handsaw down the mitred joint when it's sumwhat good love the videos bud just subbed :)
Timber work is ok mate. Well done 👍
Mate that looks mint! Good job!
I’m very impressed and quite surprised you didn’t charge any extra for the work and materials. Most would. You’re a good man 👍
Nice job mate and nice little man cave as well!
Nice Job and good safety tips- although you forgot to mention- rember to always have your mum on Speed Dial 😊
Another great job its class when a plasterer do a great job can not beat it.
Most bay windows are like that! Mostly bad brickwork by amateurs!
I think most ground floor bay windows are brick but 1st floor shouod be stud frame? Otherwise all the weight of the bricks is on the window frame below.
Take it easy with your van more power more torque & you'll use it now its there = new flywheel can't take the power, possibly turbo just drive it as you did.
Nice job can be a nightmare the old bay window's 👍
Don't worry, that kit installed is doing fuck all to that van.
Top job bud youre a real pro take pride in youre work.
I like it wen you say just a little job in between another 200 pounds in between nice one
What are your thoughts on corksol for internal bay window walls to try and control condensation?
When I was plasterering I came up with
an idea to use rubber based tilers glue
for my scratch coat over blue board
and cement board never had a come
back give it a go and see what you think
Cheers Brad
Really good video mate, and keep up the good work
Lovely job well done
Kirk l am a 77 year old retired plasterer the cement boards seem good ln my day we would have used rib lath
Awesome end result Kirk, you actually look like you've lost a bit of timber - maybe you put it in that bay!!
Good effort on the miter i have seen worse mitres From carpenters
Never mind you're not a joiner, you've done a great job, keep up the professionalism
Just a question as i dont know, but would you need to vent the bay window as there is a cavity behind the insulation?
What about using PRB modern lime renders instead. They are colour through too. The krend scrape coat looks like a bit of a timing challenge.
you might not be a joiner but a very talented guy love the vids
Pvc windows can't take that load, who ever replaced the window should have seen this problem. The original windows will have had mullions on the middle window, the minute this was removed, the cracking will have started. Found that out the hard way when I first started replacing windows around huyton, Roby area back in the late 80s.
Another thing with those houses (As we refurbished one in M20) is a lot of them historically had steel STRUCTURAL windows in them initially and these acted as structural support for the upper floor bay window, that's why they could have bricks there. Loads of people have since updated to plastic windows, but these are insufficient for the weight of the upper floor. Hence if going for plastic windows need to remove all the weight as you've done.
That's it mate, I just thought it be best to take it out and get some insulation in there
I don’t work in any trade, and I hate doing DIY jobs, but I just can’t stop watching these vids. Good work.
Glad you enjoy them mate, thanks for the support
You can use a dremmel with a tiny disc.. A lot lighter too😂
Little tip when putting beads on put a wash on and it stops it from bubbling up on the bead
A wash?
Good effort mate 👍 decent channel some top tips ❤
Darth Vader back ( he's a good laugh) on the Channel, Hart breaking when a job goes sideways. Top content
The original window would have been timber and load bearing, you need to check the new UPVC windows to see if they have a steel frame in them to replicate the original. Common problem with window companies who don't have a clue.
We bead under the sill too it’s more of a reference for depth! 💁👊
That is a good shout 👌
Do you follow it around the ends of the sill and join up with the corner beads on reveals?
@@Onthetrowel absolutely! Reice (my nephew) is anal as hell Kirk! ( good training) I gave you the tip about the bead up the window frame for reveals too and you still ain’t gave me a shout out! This is becoming one way traffic lad! 🤮😂
Can’t believe haw little you drop 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Always watch your videos keep up the good work pal 👍
Brilliant finish. Really top class.
You're far too generous mate, i wished you lived near me, would be fantastic to have someone like yourself on hand to work on my house 😊
Been there, done that. Rotten timbers,no insulation. The property had been re-rendered previously which was hiding all of the horrors underneath. It was completely rotten and only the windows were holding the rendered section in place.
It was only visible when the window was removed.
Customer refused to pay anything towards the additional cost of the work.
Like Kirk. I got burned on that one.
.
You hear horrors stories about tradesmen jacking up the price but where a job develops into something else you need to charge extra for unforeseen time and materials maybe set out the risk of what you might find in the quote and likely extra cost . Craig and yourself shouldn't bear that risk, old geezer probs on a final salary pension scheme !!
Sometimes you get faced with a loss that could possibly turn out to be an even bigger loss by digging your heels in. Walking away from the job, when you have already purchased several thousands in materials is not an option. The customer may not be in a position to pay for the additional costs.
Then there are the elderly customers or families, that you cannot consciously ask for more money.
Sometimes you just have to chalk it up to a bad experience. Leave the customer happy and get paid. There is always the next job.@@imwilki
your always decent job, especially old people and done more than expected as always hope he sorted you out a drink 🍺🍺
We have so gotta get you spraying lad! 🙏🤯👊
Nice job ✅
Great job !
What a cracking job wood work looking good Top man
Just finished a job for a customer that over run by two days, due to unforeseen circumstances, couldn’t recover my costs in total but had a chat with them and managed another £500…. Tuff out there brother.
Also check your insurance covers you for using angle grinders at height. Msny policies exclude this.
They always were bloody ridiculous things, I have one, mine is basically one layer of bricks hanging in mid air using what used to be a wooden window for support, not sure what I am going to do with mine, it has got a few cracks but is maybe a bit better than this one.
In WHAT WAY is that wooden structure between the insulating-boards Secured at all ? I have only seen a couple of nails/screws ? IS the foam the 'thing' that is holding this wee structure together ???
It's attached to the brickwork at the sides and also the window frames mate
WHAT A TREMENDOUS JOB, A Great Finish, Brilliant friend !
how long do you leave the render before final scrapping ?
is that the heavy breather on the k rend application part you keep talking about
Nice job. 👍🏻
Where in the video did the bay window collapse?
Where do you get your huge cement boards from ?? great video 😀
Proper job mate has always great tradesmen mate
If that device has connected to the FPR personally I would remove it immediately and get yourself a proper recalibrated ECU from MSD (Blackpool HQ ) with local installer they are so well priced and quality product lifetime warranty. . . It might feel better it may look better on fuel but there is now no control in fueling stratagy. Never good and bordering dangerous for the engine. do it properly.
Water ingress tidy job.
Hey kirk love the vid mate
Kirk what are those boots you're wearing?
And make sure you say a prayer 👏
Did you just eat the expense of having to reframe the entire bay? How were you to know it was completely rotted out without X-ray vision? Curious your thought process on that.
He was an old bloke mate and we agreed a price before I started, I could of told him I wanted more but there's to many conmen that rip our old folk off.
I always stick to the price I say...
P.s. I'm not cheap though, so it's just swings and roundabouts.
Can you advise what ratio you use when mixing SBR and water for plastering over artex please? 👍
I use it neat mate
Sooner or later would of dropped, but when someone was there is saying something else. But you did the right thing kirky. It’s common sense lol
Well done Brazzza.
Yesss gomo.
Thank you Brazzzzzaaaaaa
Your joinery skills aren't bad ,But the framing didn't look treated but not knocking you kirk you know more than me 👍
Cheers mate. I try.
It was exterior 3x2. It was stored outside at the building yard.
I'm not a joiner/carpenter and I know there's probably different grades of exterior timber but I reckon this will be OK. Looking back, it might have been a good idea to felt it first before the cement boards but that's hindsight for ya 🤣
@Onthetrowel you don't need to watch long to see how professional your ethic is thanks for reply
19:40 also don't forget ya rubber chicken & rabbits foot and never lay on after 8.30am
Good job mucka 🍻👍
Love it 🤣🤣
You stated in your video that you dislike drafts therefore you ran expanding foam around the kingspan insulation. You then stated that you left a space behind the insulation to let the air circulate. How can it circulate if you’ve sealed it all up
Air circulation and draughts are different mate. Its a bit like when you take a plaster off to let the air get to a wound rather than in sweating
