I apreciate this change to the system This also means the better ammo now has to work MUCH harder, because most modern plates are designed to protect against those deadlier rounds at least once or twice (NIJ has some specific requirements on this point)
Played Tarky since the Alpha days. Really glad to come back into raids with the new armor system and see how much shot placement effects gunfights now.
Amazing video. Gives a ton of context. I thought the arm hitbox getting smaller was a good thing. Not so sure now. It seems it should cover armpit but doesn't. But glad you're getting this info to BSG. With them listening more, hope to see some changes made to prevent every death being armpit lol. Especially since everyone is a beam now.
They need to start by making the PMCs have a more modern shooting stance where their torsos are squared off against whatever they're shooting at. They currently shoot with a bladed stance which went out of fashion precisely because of how modern body armour doesn't protect the armpit.
I'll say what I said on reddit, This is due to an old HP pool system being combined with new armor and new hitboxes. They either need to revert the hitboxes or update the HP pool system, as it stands now a grazing shot to the side like the armpit hitbox, will kill your chest. Even if IRL this hit would hurt and injure but not necessarily kill. I would like updated sweet spots and organ damage models and shit, or just go back to "plates cover the entire hitbox" at least until they figure out a better HP system.
the class3 you tested was a steel plate, in reality steel wont wear as ceramic plate would when shot, so hence why it kept being effective till it got zeroed
Although armor eats a lot more rounds it seems like when it goes through you die a lot quicker. I seem to be getting killed from getting shot in the front but it going through the back thorax hit box killing me in one shot rather than two. I wonder if you could try to see what that is about in your testing. Cool video!
Sounds like good changes! I'm not a physicist, but my understanding of the topics suggest to me that these new mechanics better reflect how plates behave.
Big thanks to you for the video and the people that sacrificed time helping make it, I was watching some videos about Russian special forces and how they train. Live firing and do each other's vest The new armor plates seem to follow that video
Awesome video and oh god do I remember the days when you could have a armored rig on top of your body armor lol leg meta was never more prevalent than during those days.
i'm hoping the lv 6 plates now can actually stop the AP 7.62 stuff they are actually spec'd to be able to stop. I have one I found in a stash, haven't done any testing with it yet though. Very interesting test though, curious what sort of pen you'll need to get through a lv 3 plate reliably now.
I Hate to break it to you, but your NIJ level 4 plates or Gost LVL 6 plates won't stop the top ap rounds for 7.62nato or 7.62x54r. both standards use rounds that have a steal core/hardened tool steel penetrators at relatively low velocity for ap ammo. Useally under 900 m/s or 2950 fps. For NIJ IV it's a 10.8g (166 gr) M2 ap 30-06 at 878 m/s (+/-9.1m/s) 2880 fps (+/- 30 fps). Gost VI is either a 9.4g (148 gr) 7N13 at 830 m/s (+/-15m/s) or 7.4g (122gr) 7.62x54mmR - 7BZ3 at 810 m/s (+/-15 m/s) But modern AP ammo uses a tungsten core penetrator at much faster velocities to pen armor. those rounds which would be M995, SSAP for 5.56. M993 for 7.62x51. 7N37 PPBS for 5.45x39. MAI AP for 7.62x39. BS for 7.62x54mmR And .338 Lapua AP would all go through threw top teir plates. Mainly because of the tungsten and their faster velocity and general energy on impact. Sadly none of the subsonic ammo should pen as well as they do (sorry 9x39/12.7x55 gamers). IRL some plates can stop them but they are all ceramic and it is a different type of ceramic than the plates on your table and in the chincabinetet. The main types are Boron carbide, Alumina, Silicon carbide, and Titanium Diboride. Each type has its pros and cons some stop steel threats really well others are all-rounders and some stop tungsten fairly well given enough thickness and or range/energy of the round. Some are better at full plate size and some are better in smaller tile segments. all depending on what is needed to stop. hell, there is a plate out there that will stop a .50 BMG but it's almost 2 inches thick and double the weight of other plates. but won't stop the back face deformation from killing you.
One thing I've noticed is the helmets, I've run a helmet every time I go into raid and last wipe they didn't seem to do much, but in this wipe I've gotten headshot and concussed 3 times back to back and was able to get out of raid alive and then did it again against an ADAR once and was able to live and return fire. So I think helmets are actually a lot more useful now
Maybe you got hit in the three different areas of the helmet that had armor points, making it so you had effectively gotten shot in what would be 3 different helmets in past wipe.
They should add a feature that shows you the exact hitbox on armors, when hovering over EACH component, both for plates and inserts, that way we know exactly what we get and we learn to use the armor better. Also. another thing, I wish all the inserts had roman numerals for armor class just like the plates do (inside armor inspect menu). Just keep the icon for the inserts the same purpleish color, and white for plates, that way people can easily tell which ones are removable and which aren't. Seeing ALL the classes on ALL the plates and inserts + being able to highlight each zone by hovering with mouse over each component, I think would make the system way better cus you can understand very fast what kind of armor you are looking at and how good it protects you.
Worst part about it now it’s made cheaters have more options to one hit you had a cheater on factory realize he couldn’t pen my helmet so he locked onto my neck hit box after he broke contact
We need to take in consideration that the recoil changes need to be put in effect as well its much easier now to land 6 shots very fast back to back to someone's chest then what it was before so even tho it takes X amount of shots to pen and cause dmg It's also 1000 times easier to hit players in the hitboxes now then what it was last wipe and old armor system
About side hitbod 17:00. Clothing makes it look larger, parts at the sides of your arms are ver thin and bullet will easily go through, so the hitbox is on point. The only issue I see is that the arm should also take a bit of dmg
Armors actually have a purpose! It's not just find a slick and you're golden. Now I think it will come.down to, you really need to consider your armor choices. Am I going to bring a zebralo and have protection but have the draw backs or have a slick and risk the soft spots? It requires a lot more in depth testing but it's in the right direction IMO
@@juanitoalcachofa3485so by rats do you mean people camping extract or people going into combat methodically and carefully? Because I don’t think slower players like snipers deserve to be called rats like extract campers do.
It should force people to use cover, you know try to be tactical, not run around like playing CoD. However they probably need to remove the silly sci-fi injectors, pre-med and jet pack jumping before that happens.
Something that might be worth testing is seeing how the new shouldering system might hide your left armpit hitbox while in a left shouldered stance. Might actuality make the left shoulder stance when pushing in the open a more viable option than the standard right shoulder stance???
Important to note that it seems the shot that ought to completely compromise and blow through the plate is negated. 6 HP left on the plate, and it gets zero'd but no damage at all the insert or his torso. You'd want to confirm, but that's how it looked in your plate testing - if there IS a bug, it looks like they're not allowing the damage of the bullet to "carry over" when it compromises the plate.
I really prefer this actually. If you think about it, TTK used to be elongated by guns being unrealistically, and stupidly heavy recoil, with armor being nearly pointless up to level 4. Now, u can land a lot of shots on target, and TTK leans much more heavily on armor. Which seems to me to be how things should be. Died to a scav today with 1-2 shots of t46 in the torso. Couldn’t figure it out. I had level 4. Then I stopped to look at the shape of the AVS I had. Leaves your whole upper chest above your pecs and neck exposed. Very interesting how this change is working out, but this is the best wipe and most fun I’ve had with Tarkov.
This would explain why an AI scav randomly 1tapped me in the "chest" with a lead slug, if the armor plates only cover within the armor the exact shape of the plate, and leaves the upper sides of the 6B23 with just the class 2 inserts.
i like how the armour is now mixes well with the new recoil, armour can protect you alot more but with the recoil changes its more likely to be shot in the face or have a weak point targeted and hit, cant have near no recoil and old armour effectiveness if it was like that then you could just kill anyone with 545 hp mag dumping with blunt dmg
the armor change is interesting, and could be good. the main issue is basically the hitboxes not being specific enough. they're now more specific than they were, but modern lightweight body armor is made to pretty much only cover the vitals in your chest, and there doesnt seem to be any sort of "vital organs" hitbox. combining this with the characters not wearing their armor as well as they could to protect the torso, and also the player characters using a more "bladed" shooting stance rather than one squared to the target. being squared up to your target *potentially* gives you better protection as your armor is perpendicular to the incoming rounds, meaning *maybe* you have a better chance of getting hit in the armor. personally i enjoy the changes mostly for the new plate system, but it also just makes lower tier ammo more viable. we no longer have walking tanks who are impervious to almost everything except the top shelf armor penetrating ammunition. on the other hand if all of your shitty HP ammo just hits the guy's plates, you're SOL.
I really think there needs to be a smaller "critical hitbox" in the center of the thorax to simulate vital organs which needs to be hit in order to do full thorax damage. It's the only way this system could be somewhat ballanced, seeing you hitting the armit hitbox eventhough the guy is right in front of you and insta killing him that way is not only totally bullshit from a ballance perspective but also totally unrealistic, just judging from how it looks it should probably do the same amount of damage as arm or leg shots.
spine hitbox... combine stomach and thorax and give it 100 hp (maybe a bit more even)... the spine has 35hp like head but its very small representing vital shots, all the way from just above groin to neck fixes the OP neck shots (unless they are dead center on spine), fixes armpit being too op since you have a lot of hp on chest and encourages almost real bullet damage and vitals in an understandable way while being easy to develop in real life shooting underneath the plate is incredibly effective and trained for, in game it's usually terrible
Nah, we cant micro simulate all. Bullet type+ armour now simulate things very a curatelly. A non vital area shot is still very lethal due to i yernak cavities that will destroy oegans not directly affected
@@fernandoferraz3527 Ah ofcourse, there is room for micro simulating the armor system but not the health system, leaving the ballance completely out of wack.
One thing about blunt damage IRL. Even if a plate absorbs a full round, if it does deform you still can get your organs (lungs/heart) messed up by the energy. There's a lot of energy behind high power rifle rounds and it doesn't disappear into the air. This is what trauma pads are for. So the plate preventing blunt damage makes sense with lower power rounds like pistol calibers, but on more stout rounds you should in theory still take damage through it when it fails.
Nah, that is a myth. There is a video of a point blank shot of a 7.62x51 testimg the armour of a guy wearing it. The guy with the armour even stands on one leg and he does not even move when getting shot point blank by a nato round. The impact of the bullet is the same as the recoil of the shot.
@@fernandoferraz3527 you’re right actually. I misconstrued energy with pressure. Damage through plates is caused from deformation or edge strikes. Ceramic plates when working correctly should absorb and spread out the pressure.
I gotta say bsg really really hit the mark witb this change. It was a much needed change to an old ane outdated system that makes combat feel fresh and gives players of all levels more chances to take out those late wipe chads
late wipe chads always died in 1 bullet to the head we traded a bad armor system for a less protecting one if the armor still wraped you like a magical glove id be more happy with it but the whole im shooting a guy while im wearing a lvl 4 and a full faceshield and helmet combo to die to the fucking neck..... it makes me wonder why i even bothered to put the gear on i get no audio ques cuz im deaf as fuck in a full helmet but i get none of the protection from it its a lose lose getting 2 tapped to the chest by PRS with a fucking trooper on just flat out shouldnt happen either
I mean with all the places a bullet can now "slip through", it only makes sense to make the actual armor more durable and effective. It's not like the bullets will constantly hit the plate when you're getting sprayed down 😬
Plates being very strong I think is good considering everything else is much more exposed. Armpits, sides, throats all have non or class 2 protection. So we are stronger in frontal confrontations, but ambushes are deadlier if shot in your sides
armor is what you think

This also means the better ammo now has to work MUCH harder, because most modern plates are designed to protect against those deadlier rounds at least once or twice (NIJ has some specific requirements on this point)
I want to say the plates the US Military uses are expected to stop at least 3 hits from 7.62R rounds before they’re fully compromised
@@bcurobinsonI believe it’s two 54r AP rounds.
Appreciate the explanation and testing! Feels good to understand the death screen better
Unreal video AWM thanks for the hard work brother man!
Good video thank you for your time spent testing this (and to the assistants of course)
Great content Airwing! looking forward for the next video.
Very interesting! Thanks for testing, dude!
Thank you for this man! Was thoroughly confused on how the new armor system and hit boxes worked doing God's work man! 🙏
I'm calling it now. Meta will turn into smgs hitting face shots, which will turn into wearing altyns, which will turn back to an AR high pen meta.
You guys are doing such important work o7 keep it up
Thank you! Will do!
ive been getting blunt damaged by like 2 bullets and dying with a helmet
they need to rework helmets where you dont die that quickly
the class3 you tested was a steel plate, in reality steel wont wear as ceramic plate would when shot, so hence why it kept being effective till it got zeroed
Yup. I'm eager to test the multiple materials to see if BSG has applied this in some way.
I don't know about armor anymore, I just put 4 rounds of 7.62 ps into a scavs throrax with paca before he died
Although armor eats a lot more rounds it seems like when it goes through you die a lot quicker. I seem to be getting killed from getting shot in the front but it going through the back thorax hit box killing me in one shot rather than two. I wonder if you could try to see what that is about in your testing. Cool video!
there is still fragmentation, if bullet fragments it does a lot more damge
Thanks for putting in the work brother
Sounds like good changes! I'm not a physicist, but my understanding of the topics suggest to me that these new mechanics better reflect how plates behave.
Big thanks to you for the video and the people that sacrificed time helping make it, I was watching some videos about Russian special forces and how they train. Live firing and do each other's vest The new armor plates seem to follow that video
Great video, man. Very helpful
You’re probably gonna die by neck, armpit or good old head eyes than expecting to tank that many bullets to the plates.
Gost VI is either a 9.4g (148 gr) 7N13 at 830 m/s (+/-15m/s) or
7.4g (122gr) 7.62x54mmR - 7BZ3 at 810 m/s (+/-15 m/s)
But modern AP ammo uses a tungsten core penetrator at much faster velocities to pen armor. those rounds which would be M995, SSAP for 5.56.
@@KittehONaLeashmy boy it isn’t that deep Tarkov doesn’t take this into the equation, chill
WDYM? All the tungsten rounds have the highest pen for their caliber. which the majority of them will pen lvl 6 right off the bat@@baldkap
@@baldkapwhat do you mean it doesn’t. Bullet velocity, armor durability, and material are all in the equation
OMG great job checking this out
This video is god tier explanation. Thank you so much for all the videos you do
One thing I've noticed is the helmets, I've run a helmet every time I go into raid and last wipe they didn't seem to do much, but in this wipe I've gotten headshot and concussed 3 times back to back and was able to get out of raid alive and then did it again against an ADAR once and was able to live and return fire.
So I think helmets are actually a lot more useful now
Maybe you got hit in the three different areas of the helmet that had armor points, making it so you had effectively gotten shot in what would be 3 different helmets in past wipe.
You survive more headshots because the average Timmy runs 20 pen ammo
finally some proper testing.
To add to this if you are left side peeking get used to using the new lefty shooting toggle. Keeps your armpit protected.
I am always happy for higher TTK game has felt sooo fun this wipe
Thank you Marine!! For the great info. How was your coffee?
super interesting, thanks Airwing!
you bet
Worst part about it now it’s made cheaters have more options to one hit you had a cheater on factory realize he couldn’t pen my helmet so he locked onto my neck hit box after he broke contact
Nice work dude! Thanks for doing this!
I needed this thanks for the work
We need to take in consideration that the recoil changes need to be put in effect as well its much easier now to land 6 shots very fast back to back to someone's chest then what it was before so even tho it takes X amount of shots to pen and cause dmg It's also 1000 times easier to hit players in the hitboxes now then what it was last wipe and old armor system
This looks like it's working absolutely as intended, I hope it doesn't change.
It makes people reconsider getting into fights at all and idk if that’s a good thing given how many rats there are already
@@juanitoalcachofa3485so by rats do you mean people camping extract or people going into combat methodically and carefully? Because I don’t think slower players like snipers deserve to be called rats like extract campers do.
@@LooperEpicbro. Everyone is called a rat for anything nowadays. You get shot from behind ? Must have been a rat.
It should force people to use cover, you know try to be tactical, not run around like playing CoD. However they probably need to remove the silly sci-fi injectors, pre-med and jet pack jumping before that happens.
Slicks were trash before; no stomach protection.
Something that might be worth testing is seeing how the new shouldering system might hide your left armpit hitbox while in a left shouldered stance. Might actuality make the left shoulder stance when pushing in the open a more viable option than the standard right shoulder stance???
Armor works like in real life crazy 😂
Thanks for the tips! Really helps.
Great info! Very helpful in understanding the new system.
thank you for actual real content.
Thank you. Good work as usual.
You should Have seen if the new left hand peak feature covers the armpit spot more or if it doesn’t change anything.
Good job on this guide!
A cool fact I've found is if the plate is shot on the inspect screen you can see where the bullets impacted the plates.
Just a static view change. It doesn't actual track hit location.
@Airwingmarine figured, but still a cool detail nonetheless
Level 3 plate with a level 3A soft backer can stop rifle rounds beyond the level 3 rating. I like the idea they're going with on the armor.
This would explain why an AI scav randomly 1tapped me in the "chest" with a lead slug, if the armor plates only cover within the armor the exact shape of the plate, and leaves the upper sides of the 6B23 with just the class 2 inserts.
that 12/70 lead slug is one of the most common screen shots I see from people confused as to how they died.
i like how the armour is now mixes well with the new recoil, armour can protect you alot more but with the recoil changes its more likely to be shot in the face or have a weak point targeted and hit, cant have near no recoil and old armour effectiveness if it was like that then you could just kill anyone with 545 hp mag dumping with blunt dmg
Thanks for all the hard work
Trooper probably went from my favourite armour to one i only run when I expect long range fights
the armor change is interesting, and could be good. the main issue is basically the hitboxes not being specific enough. they're now more specific than they were, but modern lightweight body armor is made to pretty much only cover the vitals in your chest, and there doesnt seem to be any sort of "vital organs" hitbox. combining this with the characters not wearing their armor as well as they could to protect the torso, and also the player characters using a more "bladed" shooting stance rather than one squared to the target. being squared up to your target *potentially* gives you better protection as your armor is perpendicular to the incoming rounds, meaning *maybe* you have a better chance of getting hit in the armor.
personally i enjoy the changes mostly for the new plate system, but it also just makes lower tier ammo more viable. we no longer have walking tanks who are impervious to almost everything except the top shelf armor penetrating ammunition. on the other hand if all of your shitty HP ammo just hits the guy's plates, you're SOL.
Shotguns got buffed and nerfed, if you hit plate you will not pen so no damage but you can aim center mass and hit gaps in the sides arm pits or next
I really think there needs to be a smaller "critical hitbox" in the center of the thorax to simulate vital organs which needs to be hit in order to do full thorax damage. It's the only way this system could be somewhat ballanced, seeing you hitting the armit hitbox eventhough the guy is right in front of you and insta killing him that way is not only totally bullshit from a ballance perspective but also totally unrealistic, just judging from how it looks it should probably do the same amount of damage as arm or leg shots.
spine hitbox... combine stomach and thorax and give it 100 hp (maybe a bit more even)... the spine has 35hp like head but its very small representing vital shots, all the way from just above groin to neck
fixes the OP neck shots (unless they are dead center on spine), fixes armpit being too op since you have a lot of hp on chest and encourages almost real bullet damage and vitals in an understandable way while being easy to develop
in real life shooting underneath the plate is incredibly effective and trained for, in game it's usually terrible
@@Seedr0 something like this yeah.
Agreed, grazing the outmost half-inch of somebody’s rib is a 2-shot in this system.
Accurate hitboxes which are smaller but actually stop rounds now, about time, all but the highest end armors were made of paper
great vid!
I gotta say bsg really really hit the mark witb this change. It was a much needed change to an old ane outdated system that makes combat feel fresh and gives players of all levels more chances to take out those late wipe chads
late wipe chads always died in 1 bullet to the head
we traded a bad armor system for a less protecting one
if the armor still wraped you like a magical glove id be more happy with it but the whole im shooting a guy while im wearing a lvl 4 and a full faceshield and helmet combo to die to the fucking neck..... it makes me wonder why i even bothered to put the gear on
i get no audio ques cuz im deaf as fuck in a full helmet but i get none of the protection from it
its a lose lose
getting 2 tapped to the chest by PRS with a fucking trooper on just flat out shouldnt happen either
This is the video I needed. Thanks
Been waiting for this 🙏🙏
The trooper mask thing is super cool it now kinda makes sense to use it
4:00 Shouldn’t the plate on the 6B23-1 cover the groin too?
I absolutely love this W bsg, dope that you can put class 6 plates in other armors that cover more area. And I have yet to die from armpit shot lol
thank you for the time and effort
Doesn’t matter how armored up I am, I’m mostly done in by head eyes.
So we are stronger in frontal confrontations, but ambushes are deadlier if shot in your sides
make sense now, I had a few people on ground zero with lvl 3 and 4 completely tanking half a mag with no kill.
