Well, maybe. In about '03 I met a chap called Mike. I was a taxi driver and flying enthusiast. He was a pilot and new arrival in Australia. We ended up day / night driver on the same car, so I chatted with Mike. Mike told me he'd come from Afghanistan, and had been the personal pilot of El Presidente - before the Russians arrived. He was a qualified 747 captain, and had flown into & out of Kabul with the boss aboard, often. I mentioned in conversation that the RAAF sends pilots to PNG for experience, because "It's the most hostile flying environment in the world." "Really?" he said, "Why's that?" I listed geography and landscape, weather & climate, lack of modern equipment and facilities, and many local people who might not be hunter-gatherers themselves, but were two generations removed at best. He answered me by pointing out that local tribal people in PNG don't have Stinger missiles and a strong desire to use them. Then he described the geography around Kabul, and what an approach or departure involves in a 747, including the bit where the pilot & all other crew watch for smoke trails or other signs of SAM launch, while the pilot flys HOTAS, ready to chop to flight idle on 1 sec warning, and then deal with whatever that does to flighspeed and terrain and such. "Did you ever have to do that? Chop power and avoid a SAM?" "Yes. Several times." "So, is that the toughest place you've ever had to go?" "One of them. But I don't think it's quite as bad as Aspen." "Aspen!? Like, Colorado? In the US?" "Yeah. That's my least favourite airport in the world." I'll cut this short and go to a bullet list. Altitude. There are only 20 pilots allowed to do this airport.
Do they fly into this airport at night and during storms and fog, day or night, with all the cloud cover? OMG!!! Talk about being a VERY skilled pilot to land and take off from this airport!
Excellent landing. Thanks for posting. Where in Peru is this? The place is beautiful.
That pilot is my father. Sergeant Gustsvo from the Bolivian air brigade.
The runway just turns into a regular old road LOL I love it
What side of the road do they land on in Peru?
That's not a road you're seeing. It's a taxiway/aircraft parking area.
The pilot is a true boss. He drove it in like he was parking a car. Mad respect, sir .
The amazing things you can do when you have a 4 pound mustache.
Now, go out there and start growing your own.
"This is the Captain. We're going to orbit until they build this airport in Phoenix."
And that, my friend, is why you aren't getting a gram of coke for less. Stop complaining.
Lol no kidding huh ...
hahahahahahahaha
best explanation of this video yet!!
+screamengine sheet that funny as hell men I lough my trip out...lol
This pilot is incredible! That's Skill and Confidence!
What about the displaced threshold?
I’m just going to make a wild guess and say that’s not the first time that pilot has landed there 😉
Legends say it's so hard to land there, that the pilot is required to have landed there at least once before he can land there for the first time.
I would say he flys 12 sorties a day. Lol
Hmmm...excellent piloting. What's the name of the pilot? I'd like to hire him to make some deliveries to some remote parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
there are enough more complex airfields in the world
in good weather, you can always land
what is the meteo minimum for this airport?
Most insane landing strip ever seen, must be nuts to even attempt it! This pilot was fearless an on the mark!
Well, he could have touched down a bit further on, but given the approach route I can totally understand why he wanted to be on the ground as soon as possible! 😅
Looks almost as dangerous as trying to bomb a ventilation port on a Death Star! 😳
Really? Here in New Guinea that runway qualifies as an highway. Try Siwea or Ogenerang or Bili airstrips.
Definitely ex drug runner for Escobar. You can’t get that type of training and experience in normal life.
My friend, you have to learn a lot. After the pandemia visit south america and the remote places and you'll see.
I think it was a joke, bud. Actually I know it was a joke. Sarcasm is hard.
For someone with the last name Fernández, the comment ranks of self disdain.
I dunno, man. Give me a pot pipe and enough dope to last all day ad I'll fire up MSFS2020 and take you on the best, most careful flight into Chagual you ever saw.
you are a ass hole!!!
Wow, that pilot is cool as ice.
not the guys I flew in with and the plane is well maintained, no puddles of fluid on the apron. On the other hand, no real weigh in and lots of heavy parts lying around the cabin going up to the mines, but short flight from Trujillo, short flight, straight up and straight down!!!
That was a damn carrier COB approach! Never seen an "off ramp" at the end of a runway like that... pretty cool.
I had to wonder, is that going to turn in to a road?
Crazy approach but great skills! Nice landing in Peru! Fly high and safe and often!
You have skill sir. Nice landing! :)
thats fuck all-I landed a tie fighter on a ewok hut.
spelt pussy........
Darth vader Rip
Me too xD
I guess this is a daylight only route!
And VMC (vs IMC)
También hemos aterrizado con niebla y mucha lluvia... los bigotes no son de adorno...
Pilots who fly here seem to not know what a displaced threshold is. I've seen several of these videos, all landing short.
Dang! That looked like David Crosby at the wheel landing up in the mountains to pick up a kilo of snow. "Marrakesh Express" indeed.
Chagual: "How is that for difficult?"
Lukla: "Hold my beer."
@@ftz9525 with the exception of lukla not having an option to go around. Dude, lukla is something else.
@@ftz9525 air is way less dense there so in order to vet some lift approach speed is generally high.
@@ftz9525 there are more videos of aircraft crashing.
there's one difficult one in france with a huge drop in the runway, up in the alps. don't remember the name tough....
@@samuelbhend2521 Courchevel!
Awesome work on that landing.
I was getting nervous just watching ;)
Try some rum and coke (cola) before watching. You enjoy the vid and otherwise tend not to give a shit.
@@MikeNaples Thanks for advice, it was an outstanding Landing in my opinion. Credit where credit is due.
You can't be serious! Holy... Is this a runway or a random road?
Very nice. A great test to the pilot's abilities and skill. Love the bank landing. Thanks for sharing.
I want to know how they got the pavement up there to pave the road
david tarzwell you’d be amazed what people will do for good coke!
Bleu Stalder
That joke isn’t funny
I asked myself the very same question!
@@bleustalder8717 ignorant.
Victor Lopez fuck off if you can’t enjoy a joke
That was thrilling and scary and impressive. And the passengers aren't yelling and screaming and high five-ing him??? lol
Kinda opposite of the movie Airplane! during that landing!
Captain Mustache laughs at the displaced threshold. Awesome!
