Am2r is more faithful to the original compared to Samus Returns. Basically AM2R is nowhere near identical and that goes for basically everything else about the game.
You might be running on version 1.1 or 1.5. The latest version is 1.5.5 with its own Launcher which you can get on the AM2R subreddit. For further help there's always the Official AM2R Disocrd.
It's called a door zip. By walljumping off it right when it opens the game bugs out and teleports you to the other side. I'm not really that good at explaining it but that's the jist of things.

Shinespark doesn't damage bosses of any type
In AM2R you can actually insta kill Ancient Guardian with a shinespark. Tho that's randomizer content only

My question is why don't you need an ice beam to damage metroids in th8s game but nes and super you do?
I believe in the logbook in this game it's said that the evolutions of metroids have made it immune to Ice Beam. Not canon though as seen in SR.
