How to camouflage your truck or jeep using spray paint [#2]

- In this video I show you how to paint your truck, jeep or ATV camoflage with spray paint. I show you the things you need, the steps you need to follow, show you exactly how I'm doing it and some tips I've learned along the way.
This took me 2 days (5-6 hours each) and the total cost was 2 hours.
Steps and things needed:
Step 1. wash your vehicle
Step 2. sand the surface you're going to paint.
You need either sandpaper to do it manually or a sander (sander is faster)
step 3. tape up everything you don't want painted over. You can also remove things.
You will need masking tape, plastic or paper
step 4. prime the surface (I skipped this, see step 5)
you need primer
step 5. Paint and clear coat
You need spray paint in camouflage colors, at least 4-5 colors is best. The pain needs to be the same brand and same type, otherwise it might bubble up. You also need new paint, don't use old paint sitting in your garage (it will splatter and the flow of paint won't be even. It can become a mess)
If you can buy paint that has primer (it will say Paint + primer), then you don't need to separately prime it
You will also need some plants or cutouts or whatever you want to use for the pattern
I did something new this tie, you're just going to have to watch the video, it's hard to explain lie this.
step 6. Remove tape and plastic and touch up if needed
You need paint brushes

You can roller primer and or a base color for making it easier,it works great 👍👍
Nice job! I used plasti dip on my rims and rustoleum bedliner on the running boards and bumpers. All has held up well for 3 yrs.

You don't need to do a snow camo as it shows in the video, you can use regular earth tones in place of the white, but the technique would be different. I actually like it a lot, I can't wait to try it with green / brown

I have to say, for someone that is not a professional and had to create a process of, for instance add the Buck and the Hunter you did a great job.
I would have no problem driving that truck.
You also appeared to be having a ton of fun. What more could you ask for?
You did prime the bare spots with primer paint. It would have been better if you use a sandable primer instead, but everything worked out OK. Great job. Now come do mine. LOL

Here is a tip.. it is VERY important that your paint cures(not just dry) dry takes about 15-20 mins. Cure takes 3 to 5 days. You never want to clear coat until after your paint cutes.

I work professionally at a body shop and I’ve never heard of waiting days to apply clear i paint the vehicle or part and wait 15-30 mins for it to dry then clear never have I had a problem
When I camo paint rifles and shotguns, I let it dry to the touch, before applying the next color, and concerning clear coat, I use flat matte clear coat, let the item dry to touch, which depends on the humidity, then paint with matte clear coat, which when dry, gives the paint a hardened less easily scratchable finish. Great for gun stocks, etc.
Don't forget rattle these rattle cans are probably 1K paint so they just dry, unlike 2K paint

Matte clear coat and matte paint is also nice for camo.
That's exactly what I'm using 😆 always matte. Satin finish is supposedly be different with paint you paint on the wall, but it doesn't make a difference with spray paint, in my experience.
You just need to avoid glossy or semi glossy or anything like that
Well Done!!! After watching your first Camo video I gave it a shot on my car which needed painting, it’s a shame we can’t include photos. Anyhow when it was nearly all completed I drove the car down to my mechanic and back. Upon leaving my mechanic’s the police started following me and so eventually pulled me over not far from home. They searched me and then the car (f@#&$!) now that’s just discriminatory! I must look like a drug dealer driving it, I said this to my mechanic and he said, yeah-nah everyone knows all drug dealers drive Commedors!😂 They then breathalysed me for Alcohol. Itold them I hadn’t finished painting and I was on my way😂talk about drawing attention to myself 😅

@@Huntress308 I would like to see a quasi-scene showing through the camo. Maybe, a father and son hunter with a couple of deer on a full-sized truck. I liked the way depth could be added by putting some of the camouflage at the feet of the hunter. I would like to see a video demonstrating how to add some additional environmental elements surrounding each of the individual stencils that blend into the camo? 🤔Not a scene in totality, only about two inches surrounding the stencil. It would not be obvious at first but upon further inspection, one could use their imagination to get the image meant to be conveyed in the camo. That would be cool 🙂 I'm considering doing this to a ranch truck with my son. 👍

Thank you so much! It's holding up great. I did this I think 3 years ago, there are no car washes since it's a feed truck but it's always sitting outside, under the sun, rain, wind and occasional snow. And cold weather. Haven't seen any fading or chips.
I basically used 2 shades of green and brown, and either beige or black, can't quite remember, but I think I show them in the beginning of the video

Thank you! Yeah about the gloves, I had some somewhere. It couldn't find them. So I had spray paint on my nails and fingers and some splatter on my arm for days. But wasn't too bad.

I have painted. cars trucks and motorcycles only one time with spray can's My only concerns are the weather. It was snowing and raining. The paint can's even tell you that the temp has to be at a certain temperature.
As long as you prep the surface, and paint everything in normal temperature (above 60, maybe closer to 70 but under 90) and give enough time for the paint to try and cure, you'll be fine. The clear coat also needs time before and after.
This feed truck I painted 2 years ago, still looks good. It's been through sun, rain, ice and snow and wear and tear and the paint is good.

Been thinking lately about doing my 99 F250 in some type of solid olive drab color. How much does one need to sand during prep and what grit of sandpaper do you suggest prior to letting the paint fly? Love your accent by the way 🙂
I think a light sand would be enough. I don't think you need to sand off the original paint, just the top layer, the protective coating. Something very fine, as far as sandpaper goes, should work, so it leaves it smooth.

What would ya do for a winter camo???
You can add white for snow. White can be one of the colors, you might want to experiment with it to see what you like.
You can also use lighter colors, for example white, beige, gray and light green

No I didn't. The mirror is above it. There are holes for another bigger mirror I guess but it's not being used. There is nothing there 😆
Any suggestions for a pink camo paint job on jeep Wrangler?
Well, I've never done it but it's in the plans. If you look at pink camo, you'll see that they usually don't use any green. Black, brown and pink.
If you want hot pink, maybe just use a little, or you want light pink, you could use more and patterns with brown and black. At least that's how I see it. It's a trial and error, so I would try it out on a small surface first

Use paper and glue stick for your images
I'm not sure if that would work. I sprayed on top of the image and if that was paper, it could get wet and the paint would bleed through it.
The way I did it actually worked really well

@@nunyabitnezz2802 thank you! I painted this truck 2 years ago and it's still holding up very well. Besides being used as a feed truck, it's been through snow, ice, hail, wind and rain and it didn't affect it. Last year we had a very bad snow storm and even in low elevation we had snow.
