This is one of those chili pepper songs that gives you some great unexplainable feeling. Everything just sounds perfect and exactly where it should be. Incredible.

This definitely should have made it onto californication or by the way. Can't believe I only discovered it because before I went to see rhcp in krakow I went to a bar close to the stadium where they were playing and in advance of the gig, the owner just had rhcp songs playing on repeat and then all these bsides were playing and I was like "wait... What albums are these on???! How have I never heard these before" amazing. I fell in love with this song instantly

I absolutely love this song. It’s a feeling that I can’t even describe.
It flows so naturally, expresses emotions and doesn't feel forced. It feels everyone in the band felt it and wanted to give their best shot.
A little 'Here Ever After' in the intro, and a little 'London Calling' in those breaks before the choruses and bridge...
Probably the most beautiful song this band has ever written.

Even though this was recorded for Californication, it sounds like the style of By the Way. The melody even reminds me of Venice Queen.
Omg man.. So true. It's actually perfect for By The Way. Switch this song and put By The Way on Califonication, that seems to fit more haha
I Agree Totally. Venice Queen is easily my favourite Peppers song, so it certainly stands that this is a close second.

I agree that this is an amazing song but I don't really think it fits in with the Californiacation sound which is probably why they didn't include it. I personally think quixoticelixir (another B-side from the same era check it out if you haven't already) fits more with that sound but they didn't include that either. It must be a very hard process selecting what songs actually go on an album and it's why so many b-side sound kick ass!!
It's better than porcelain. Something about that song, I never liked. Like it's too slow
@@conorsmith8551 Funny enough I think Porcelain is one of the best tracks on the album.
I think it fits Californication's sounds really well. Just that it's not overly compressed because it was re-recorded during the By The Way era (where that record sounds a bit too clean for my liking).

my favorite RHCP song by far. heard it a while ago. Should of been on californication right after toherside IMO. And tes they wrote it back in 1998. only released in 2004-2005 WHY!!!!!!!

This was recorded in 1999, along with the rest of Californication.

@@pincho1983 The Fortune Faded Wikipedia page says "One of the single's B-sides, "Bunker Hill" was originally recorded for Californication." This was definitely 1998/99. Aside from that clear evidence, Anthony and John's vocals are a big giveaway, and John's guitar tone and playing even more so. John wouldn't have ever done something this simple after Californication because he was still regaining strength and stamina in his hands at that time. By the time By The Way came out, he was back to doing crazy intricate stuff, which this song doesn't showcase. Just in case you needed more evidence.
