My best friend sent this to me a long time ago and he passed away last year this song is the sing that reminds me of him the most. We lost a good one everyone, the world is dimmer without that light. Gone too soon. Cherish every moment of life everybody
This is genuinely the greatest Red Hot Chili Peppers song in existence. My earliest memory i can remember my sisters playing this for me at 3 years old. 22 now
Im glad that they made this song the way it is, its very simple but speaks volumes and is very beautiful. simplicity is the greatest thing you can do with music, if you can make it simple but beautiful at the same time you got something good going for you.
For many people Gong-Li is a unknown song, and that's just one reason I love it more. I hope people will find this song and have the same feeling when I heard it for the first time. I became a Pepper fan since Californication came out when I was 11 years old. I found this song somewhere in 2004 when I was 16 years old. Still can't believe I found it so late... It was like finding big treasure. An awesome feeling. This is such a wonderful masterpiece. One of the best RHCP tracks and definitely the best B-Side ever made! I just love this song. It's just so sensitive, emotional and it brings so much sphere. Thx for uploading this.
Anthony Kiedis’s best vocal performance. I don’t know what was happening that day or what was happening in his life, but he was truly feeling it on this one. That deep breath in the last seconds of the track...This was a man in his golden age...if I had to guess.
His best vocal performance on a recording is either "all over the under, The smell of blood and thunder" part of the song "Time" Or "sentimental gentlemen" part of "show me your soul"
Hmm. The funky smoothness of that delivery in Time? My new votes would be for the emotional weighty and silky smooth delivery in This Velvet Glove. And the vulnerable, depth of feeling height in Encore.
This song was written about John Frucsiante. A total vague emotional reaction from Anthony about how and why he heard John left the band and how much it affected him. This was Anthony’s love song to John and it solidifies how strongly John’s departure affected Anthony and how much Anthony realized how arrogant he was. John and Ant both acted like insensitive children at the time due to serious business obligations. But I’m glad they both found stability and a version of themselves they can live with.
Perfect song. The instrumental is in an odd time signature and creates tension, maybe symbolizing conflict and then the chorus is in 4/4 to symbolize forgiveness and relief given by the restored relationship. Anthony's tone and the way his voice blends with John's is just out of this world.
you can still get it on spotify! google it, it involves using local files on the spotify app on your computer and your phone at the same time. I just got this and many more b-sides that aren't on spotify. Lmk if you need help

I always listen to this song when my best friend and I have an altercation or fight. It always reminds me how much I love him at the end of the day. Safe to say, I dont have to listen to this often, but I do come back just to remind me how far we've come. Right now, we're all stressed over a Berlin trip, but i know i have to be the one to help him. So i came back now to get some comfort. Love you Will.
I believe (and I think I read it somewhere) this song is about the relationship between AK and JF when he returned. It's about embracing and forgiving, that uncondiotional love we feel for the people close to us, no matter what happened or is happening. Love with no regrets, unchanging...for our parents, family, our dearest friends...
Carlos Legorburu as above comment. It was written by Flea for his solo album. But the feeling you get for the song remains the same and it's still a beautifully raw and direct song, non the less. Regardless of who it was written for and why.
Some people say you hate me, I don't believe it's true, things that you're going through Some people say you hate me, I don't believe it's you, things that you're going through, Some people said a prayer for, The one you want to live, the eyes that once were his Some people said a prayer for, The way you want to live, the eyes you want to give Some people say you played me, I don't care if it's true, I'm waiting here for you, Some people say you made it, I'm not afraid to know, when things are getting low Some people say you hate me, I don't believe it's true, things that you're going through Some people say you hate me, I don't believe it's you, things that you're going through.
My friends became distant, and at the end i just stopped talking to all of them i dont think they hate me or something like that, i like to think everything was a misunderstood... But yeah more than 10 years of friendship gone in a year... I guess thats how life works. I hope everyone is okay, keep listening to music and keep going forward 🔵
I’ve been coming back to this song almost every night after going to bed. Then I get up and light up a smoke and jam to this for a while before going back to sleep again. What a beautiful piece! RHCP forever!!
This song has a deeper meaning, as it was written about the actress who played the hawk witch in the live action movie of Mulan. The song title is actually her name. And, I don't know how anyone could hate her. I mean, she is so beautiful and feminine, as she shines brightly with her attributes...
As someone born and raised in LA. Chili Peppers were like my rocker cousins band. Jammed out trying to imitate Frusciante’s riffs. RHCP means a lot to me. I got older and understood the songs more and felt exactly like the words sung. And this track is a b-side track but I’ve loved it since I’ve heard it. Wish I could stream or download it someplace. Until then… Gong Li lives on in 2023.
In Japan, this song was the hidden track of the album, Californication. At that time, there was no credits on CD, I have thought this tune was a part of “Road Trippin “ for almost 20 years :)

After the return of John I returned to my childhood's and of course to my favourite band and I'm very glad about this!I'm waiting for this summer to see them live in Athens! I feel that with John a part of my adolesence is back ! Anyone feeling the same?
An ex BF in college back in 2011 showed me this song. We broke up but I can’t quit this song. It’s a gift he gave me. It’s probably one of my favorite RHCP songs after The Zephyr Song. Zephyr reminds me of riding my bike across my college campus and other good memories. Gong Li reminds me of the times I was very blissed out and happy.
[Verse 1] Some people say you hate me I don’t believe it’s true, things that you’re going through Some people say you hate me I don’t believe it’s you, things that you’re going through Some people said a prayer for The one you want to live, the eyes that once were his Some people said a prayer for The way you want to live, the eyes you want to give [Verse 2] Some people say you played me I don’t care if it’s true, I’m waiting here for you Some people say you made it I’m not afraid to know, when things are getting low Some people say you hate me I don’t believe it’s true, things that you’re going through Some people say you hate me I don’t believe it’s you, things that you’re going through
Not the biggest RHCP fan here. Casually into their "best stuff" for decades (californication - blood sugar era mostly). This is something different. The avant garde intro/mid/outro - not to mention the melodies in the main section are incredible while being so simple. Wish every song in their catalogue was this song! Wish it was streaming somewhere too!
oh I've totally forgotten about this song! I used to play this bass line to myself so often a few years ago. I'm glad I found it again, it feels so nostalgic.
One of my favorites. Reminds me of my relationship with a friend I once had. I wish he was still my friend but unfortunately misunderstandings and a one sided friendship drove us apart. I still don't really know what happened. All of the sudden he just started treating me differently and from there it deteriorated. Maybe he was using me. I don't know.
Always has been and always will be one of my absolute favorite chili peppers songs. Way under rated but maybe the fact it’s a rare scar tissue b-side adds to what I love about it
I bought the Scar Tissue single in ‘99 and then just found it in an old bin of CDs and tapes…i remembered there being another song and then looked it up, then realized I had listened to this song more than Scar Tissue 😂 I love the juxtaposition of the two sections. Beautiful song. This would be a fantastic deep cut to whip out in concert.
It's beautiful. I love all their b-sides, they obviously deserve to be on the record but for some reason i love that you have to go out of your way to listen appreciate it. Shows your true love for it
Brilliant track. Thanks for uploading. I've been watching lot of John Frusciante interviews lately and in one he said this was one of his favourite RHCP songs.

Frusciante's a musical genius with amazing chord progressions and melodies, and Anthony's a great song writer and lyricist. Anthony is a helluva frontman. I know he's not the world's greatest singer but neither is Iggy Pop or Lou Reed to name just a couple. But he brings an energy and excitement to the band that would be difficult to find from anyone else.
Yeah, 5 masterpiece albums with Frusciante on guitar is true. Stoked that he’s back. Hopefully they crank out another album before tensions rise and he leaves again. I’m reminded a bit of the dynamic between Eddie Van Halen and David lee Roth. They had amazing musical chemistry but also had personality conflicts and drove each other crazy. So they kept breaking up and getting back together in the band. But every time they came together they created magic

Holy shite! I had no idea Froosh was back even several months after news dropped on that! I am SO looking forward to their 2020 album now. For me, Froosh is the key to their sound being what it is when they're at their best. Klinghoffer is an awesome guitarist but Frusciante is THE Peppers' guitarist, anyone else is just trying their best to play something Froosh-esque that doesn't sound bad. So psyched about this news though!
Frusciante es el mejor musico del planeta lejos, no solo por el sentimiento que el loco demuestra sino porque tiene una banda de discos solista es un cabeza, lo quiero mucho ojala algun dia lo conozca

Whenever a single was released, there was a "b-side" and an "a-side" to the album, and now when singles are released, there's extra tracks on the downloadable content, and those are the b-sides.

I’m a big fan of the Getaway. Try learning the Longest Wave on guitar. Has a total Frusciante vibe to it. Also very difficult.
My fav RHCP song 4eva
Some these b sides r my fav songs
Found this at a local cd shop for $$1. Extremely pleased!!
Some people say you hate me,
I don't believe it's true, things that you're going through
Some people say you hate me,
I don't believe it's you, things that you're going through,
Some people sad I pray for,
The one you want to live, the eyes that once were his
Some people sad I pray for,
The way you want to live, the eyes you want to give
Some people say you played me,
I don't care if it's true, I'm waiting here for you,
Some people say you made it,
I'm not afraid to know, when things are getting low
Some people say you hate me,
I don't believe it's true, things that you're going through
Some people say you hate me,
I don't believe it's you, things that you're going through
this song helped me get home from iraq in 2004.
Thank you for your service to protect our country.
@@wendegibbs7950 lmao what did the iraq war have to do with protecting america
Music just has a way of helping period.
@@KM-zw9qb its terrorism my g and if we didnt fight them they wouldve spread out and eventually came here and could possibly continue being you know terrorists
@@fishholefiller what would you do if an army invaded your country dragged you from your beds beat your family and killed your friends? Don't know about You but I'd kill anyone who tried that with me
This song always makes me close my eyes and smile. Beautiful song!
Oh god that's so awesome! I totally love it!
Anthony's voice in this one is absolutely stunning...
Back from their start to 2024
❤ the Red Hot Chili Peppers
I love the vocal tracks on Californication, the mixing they used sounds more beachy and old but adds to the feel rather than taking away.
Can’t believe I just found this gem in 2024 😢
listen to their b side ‘someone’
I see you. ❤
Who’s here after Frusciante rejoined the band YET AGAIN
oh yeah!
yeet
lets hope he stays this time
oh shit he's back? i've been listening to his maggot brain esque song like non-stop lately
So psyched about this news though!
one of the best of rhcp
This is John's favourite R.H.C.P's track. 😍
Really?! Wow. Great to hear that. Do you have a source of this where he's saying this?
@@joostrijkers5425 just search up John frusciante q and a 2004 he talks about it real quick during the video
I thought that this Velvet glove was.
Yeah this song takes me back in time.....b side r bad ass songs
Frusciante es el mejor musico del planeta lejos, no solo por el sentimiento que el loco demuestra sino porque tiene una banda de discos solista es un cabeza, lo quiero mucho ojala algun dia lo conozca
This could easily be in the album Californication
Was written during those sessions and a b-side to scar tissue
In fact this song, exist on Californication japanese version
Steve Kohut we know that, he’s saying that it could’ve made it onto the actual album instead of being a b-side
@Abraham Synth it’s has great parts but as a song I don’t find it really goes anywhere. I think they were right to leave it off the album
@Abraham Synth Quixoticelixer especially could have been a single in place of like Road Trippin.
Summer of 1998! Still in 2019!
Yeah!! And still in 2024 too! 🙂

Happiness. Nothing else, just happiness.
Wow this song is just... arghh i cant even explain it, one of the reasons why i love RHCP :)
Whoever that song is about .. ak was feeling it … and its beautyful peaceful melody almost heavenly

+Mark „steve“ Mendoza Hernandez lol
hmm lol
Fuck Spotify and Apple Music
Whenever a single was released, there was a "b-side" and an "a-side" to the album, and now when singles are released, there's extra tracks on the downloadable content, and those are the b-sides.
Dang intro Gets me every time.. just beautiful
