We have had a WD for 50 + years. Always starts and runs good 😊

The "D" series in my opinion was the best AC ever made with the exception of the AC 220. And if my memory serves me correctly, the D17 series IV, HP wise, was much larger than the WD. Great video as always, cheers :)

That thing looks good in the shed with all those Meadow Green girls! I twisted off a manifold stud on my 450 awhile back, wound up at a buddies place and set it up in his mill to get it out. Later discovered a couple small cracks, that (hopefully) explains the a/f in the oil. Kind of brought me to a stand still on this project.

Keep reminding me! I’m pretty sure it’s still in the combine. I need to go check. 🤣

I need to pull the manifolds on a 770 due to leaky exhaust. my biggest fear is twisting off a bolt. I see it does happen.🙂

I started paying more attention at garage sales to pick up inexpensive tools so when some wacky job is in process with tools strewn about it and a second or sixth breakdown job happens there are a few more tools around "to find". Ups the odds.

This old Dealer video shows the engine mods involved in WD to WD45 ( th-cam.com/video/1Viw0LBJClM/w-d-xo.html ), basically crank for more throw, cupped piston tops, and smoother intake/exhaust manifold design (which you already have because that's all you can buy now).

Gee, pulling the head is just like an Oliver 4-cyl or 6-cyl. Pull the manifolds, pull the cover, pull the rocker arm shaft and pushrods, remove head bolts, and then the head. Then for the rest of your 45 minutes of flat rate time, you can have a Mountain Dew or whistle at the girls walking by the shop. Orange, good Green, or the ugly green, gray, or blue are all about the same, at least on the older ones. Taking a head to a shop that has all of the equipment and knows how to do the job of hunting for cracks is a money-wise thing to do. We used to take all of the con rods, bushings, and pins, along with the head, new guides, and valve seals if needed to his shop. Sometimes we even took the manifold and had him kiss everything smooth and level on his grinder. He would call if the head needed new valves or seats. We stocked the LP gas satellite valves for tractors that seemed to have repeated valve failures. The LP exhaust valves usually solved any problems. By the time we did the bottom end mains, front and main seals, sleeves replaced, plus other repairs on the tractor the head would be done. One thing we checked closely and usually replaced was the chain coupler. It was not that costly and when everything was out of the way it was easy to do. Sorry I missed the Frick and Frack show on Sunday.

I suppose I should get my WD 45 home from the other farm and get it going again

When I pulled the sleeves out of Dad’s WD-45, the back two had rust and muddy looking sludge clear to the top of the sleeves. It wasn’t running hot but I don’t know how. Yours might be even worse. Not really a good way to flush out the water jacket with the sleeves still in.

Have no experience on Allis tractors. Agree with your theory working on one brand...you get to where you don't hardly need a service manual. Some of the old school mechanics even knew what tools they'd need on a service call. One local dealer started their sons in equipment assembly and service...so whether they worked the parts counter/sales/etc. product knowledge was beneficial.

My Father had the exact same Tractor! He bought it with heating problems. Turned out The old boy who had it before us always used Water and rust plugged the rad and plugged the block up. Also the water pump impeller was almost rusted completely off! Took out frost plugs and pressure washed inside as much as he could. as well as removed rad.

It will be fine. You're doing the work, so it will live again soon. Bummer about Freddy and the broken light. I'm not sure why, but it sure sounded like it was raining in the video. See you later.

Nice video Ross. I was surprised the head gasket was in as good of shape as it was. Little puzzled as to what the problem could be. Unless it is in the head itself. Well good luck with this issue.
