In this Mission Mid-Term series, revise all the important concepts in your class 8 Science Chapter, Crop Production and Management.
In this class, your favourite BYJU’S educator, Aishwarya Ma’am, discusses the following topics in detail from this chapter:
    - Agricultural Practices
    - Basic Practices of Crop Production
    - Preparation of Soil
    - Agricultural Implements
    - Adding Manure and Fertilisers
    - Traditional Methods of Irrigation
    - Modern Methods of Irrigation
    - Protection from Weeds
Certain agricultural practices must be implemented in order to feed our growing population. Crops in India are broadly classified into two types based on the season: rabi crops and Kharif crops. The supply of water to crops at appropriate intervals is called irrigation. Join this class to learn more about crop production and management.

kharif crops: types of crop which are sown in the season of monsoon due their excess need of water
rabi crops: These types of crops are sown in winter because they dont need much water
(wont write about zaid because its not in ncert)
    1preparation of soil
    2sowing of seeds
    3addition of manure/fertilizer
    4irrigation
    5Removal of weeds
    6Harvesting
    7storage of crops
    PREPARATION OF SOIL
1 Soil need to be turned and loosen so the plants roots can penetrate the soil easily
2 Addition of Manure increasing water holding capacity of the soil, Increasing amount of helpful organism eg rhizobium.
3 Addition of fertilizers due to them containing P(phosporus), K(Pottasium),N(nitrogen). Eg of a good fertilizer 2 4 D(2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid
TRADITIONAL TOOLS USED FOR THE PREAPARTION OF SOIL
1 Plough: Used for tiling the soil by turning the soil loosening it
2: Hoe: Used to manually turn the soil
MODERN TOOLS USED FOR THE PREAPARTION OF SOIL
1 Cultivator: A modern tool which turn the soil which is attached at the back of a tractor
WAY TO CHECK QUALITY OF SEEDS WHICH ARE GOOD TO SOW
first take all the seed then put them in a bowl of water the good and healthy seeds will go down in the water while the hollow and bad seed would float up in the water.
    TRADITIONAL TOOLS USED FOR SOWING
1Funnel: A metal pipe is stuck in to the ground whos top is funnel shaped u can put the seeds in there and you can distribute then in uniform distance
2Mannually: U can manually throw the seeds in the soil this i called broadcasting but this is not a good way of sowing seeds as the seeds are throw in randomly and not in uniform distance and the seeds can be picked up by birds.
    MODERN TOOLS USED FOR SOWING
Seed distributer: This machine is also attached in the back of a tractor it automatically drops seeds at uniform distance.
WHY SHOULD EXCESS AMOUNT OF FERTILIZER SHOULD NOT BE USED
Excess amount of fertilizer should be not used because it could block the air ways of the soil causing lack of oxygen killing the crop, also the fertilizer may go to a source of water polluting it making it non usable.
( IF YOURE READING THIS THEN I HAVE EXPLAINED FERTILIZER AND MANURE ABOVE PLEASE READ IT )
TYPES OF TRADITIONAL METHOD OF IRRIGATION
    1MOAT
    2DHEKLI
    3CHAIN PUMP
    4RAHAT
    MODERN METHODS OF IRRIGATION
1 Sprinkler system: This method of irrigation contains a long pipe where there is a rotating nozzles which distributes water equally throughout the soil. This method is used in lands which dont have sufficient amount of water.
2 Drip system: A network of narrow tubes/pipes whit small holes small drops of water are dropped near the roots of the crop.
    CROP ROTATION/NITROGEN FIXATION
crop rotation is when in one year you plant non leguminous plant which use up the nitrogen in the soil then the next year you plant leguminous plant which the help of rhizobium which are found in root nodule of leguminous plant help in nitrogen fixation
    MIXED CROPPING
This method of planting crops you plant different crops throughout the field
    WEEDING METHODS
1 Manual: This is when you cut weed with sickle but there is a drawback you may cut youre own crop accidentally
kharif crops: types of crop which are sown in the season of monsoon due their excess need of water

Ma'am this session was really fun? I had a doubt. I did not understand the meaning of tilling.

    • @bhumi8064
      @bhumi8064 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Before sowing the soil needs to be turned and loosened so that the roots can breathe easily when they go deep inside the soil and earthworms and microbes present in the soil can grow properly. Earthworms and microbes further turn and add humus to soil. The process of turning and loosening the soil is called tilling (or ploughing).
That's all i understood about tilling for now
      Hope it helps you

Hi ma,am , how do fertilizers cause water pollution?

    • @ranjitasahu4379
      @ranjitasahu4379 ปีที่แล้ว

Fertilizers and pesticides are among the many common stormwater pollutants that can degrade water quality. Though fertilizers contain chemicals that are good for lawns and plants when used properly, excessive amounts applied to lawns and gardens wash off and pollute streams.
Fertilizers are made of nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus. When it rains, these nutrients are carried by storm-water into the nearest stream, river, or other water body. Too many nutrients in water can cause algae to grow, which uses up the oxygen in the water. Low levels of oxygen in water can hurt aquatic wildlife and even lead to fish kills.
