The dog handler for our EOD dog use to say "you don't train the dog, the dog knows what to do, you train the people to understand and communicate with the dog."
My college girlfriend had a sweet beagle that knew automatically how to track. We'd take night walks in the park near her apartment, and one of us would walk ahead a hundred yards or so and hide. And the beagle would find us every time!
Lol that's cute but nothing like what these gentleman are doing here. My dog could do that too and even find her tennis ball in tall grass hidden from a couple hundred feet away at 3 months old. That's not "automatic tracking" ability lol
When the supervisor said "the dog lost the scent and ended up in the corner of the field, who knows if the dog would have come back " DER... well trained dogs , doing something they enjoy and you wonder if the dog will recall ? Maybe we need better trained people .
I agree. I train my dogs to track. Eventually I can give them the scent and let them go. They never go off track for long, they naturally know how to scan the area to pick up the scent again.
imagine after some years when we have some different high-tech tool that can find people they will look back at us and say oh look dogs were used to find people annd guns and cocaine in the 21st century :))
Law enforcement in California need to use tracking dogs to search for the two missing boys, (Orrin and Orsen West) in California City. They have barely done any searching at all. Also the only news crews that are reporting on it are two small local news crews, the rest are all youtubers. I don't want to think it's about race,but it's difficult not to. Please help us spread the word and help get some national attention to this case. #findtheboys
I have a question as it pertains to the search for Kenny Veach that went missing 6 years ago in which the first day or 2 they did go up with search dogs in which my position is that no search dog can follow a scent of one individual for miles in a case in the desert no contact was made of any type for miles except for the soles of the boots.
generally the handler checks to see which direction the dog is pulling, which, as the dog is trained to attack certain people over others, is usually the criminal.

Funny how they don't mention that theses dogs are breed for aggression. I have a GSD and gone to a trainer who has trained police dogs. There is no such thing a controlled aggression when a dog is worked up.

They get more training to look for people than police officers get to know our rights and freedoms that they are their to protect for us!
Honestly, if I were a criminal on the run and it was a dog that found me... I couldn't be mad. I might even be a little happy for the dog lol

i have a service dog named lola and i want to train her to find toys then find me when i have panic attacks
Thats awesome. I would love to train our dog to notify me before I have an allergic reaction of something I ate.
