- In this video, I show the T-Mobile SIM card (prepaid mobile data only) inserted into the Android head unit and show proof that it works in the US. I also show an example of the speeds (not speed test but video streaming). This is a quick short video just to show proof that it does work. When I was looking at purchasing this unit I had a hard time finding out if a SIM card in the US would actually work. Well happy to know it does.

The card is a 5G capable card but the Android head unit is only 4G compatible, when installed in the unit you will only get 4G speeds.The fact that the card says 5G does not matter, I'm just clarifying this because I was unsure myself.

thank you for not turning off the beeping sound. every one hates it but for some reason I just gotta have that sound when I press an icon....Lol!!!!!

@@otisrhw how did you get them to activate that sim card.I gave them the Imei that's on the head unit and tried 3 different places and they couldn't activate it.I went to the TMOBILE store and called them on the phone and no luck.How did you do it.?
@@akirasposion just tell them you want the prepaid "data only plan" for a cheap tablet and you don't have it with you. I paid 20 dollars with activation. I don't know about a unlimited plan because I wanted to check and see if it worked. I got the 5g data only prepaid 5gb for 20.00. prepaid.t-mobile.com/prepaid-internet
No activation needed. Just plug the card in and turn the car on and off I think or hard reboot
Where did you find the imei for your unit? I can't seem to find mine anywhere. Was it on the box or within the unit settings?

Do you know what VPN settings they did? I have the Tmobile sim in mine and it recognizes the card showing 4G and cellular bars, but not internet. It seems from what I am seeing online that the VPN settings might be the issue

I have a very similar unit that hast he same SIM card holder. Do you know if a nano sim will work with this unit?

How do you set the sims Card to work on your android did you have to use a phone to activate it just didn't work out for me maybe I used the wrong plan
I have a question, I got a T-Mobile SIM card and no matter what I do I can't get the unit to recognize the SIM card. We tested the SIM and it does connect to the T-Mobile network but it doesn't work in the unit. When I look at the configuration to see what is in the SIM unit all it says is "China Unicom" and it will not let me delete that configuration. Any ideas on how to configure the unit so it will recognize the SIM card?
Is it a data only SIM card? If you can make phone calls with it, it will not work, does it fit in the SIM card tray? You have to have it to one side or the other I forget

@@otisrhw and i did have it confirmed that the SIM card is in the correct way.
Did you reboot, when you see android at boot, From settings?
@@otisrhw Yes, I've tried a couple of restarts/reboots from settings and still no signal.

@@otisrhw did you use the IMEI# for slot 2 to activate the service to the radio. And did you activate it through l customer service or the website? Also, do you know where the location is for slot 1 sim card?

@@biggtrue5734 slot 1 is on the motherboard of some radios usually the back case is cut on the edge that abuts the screen. If your sim doesn't work in slot 2 (usually the sim dongle on a cord) it will make no difference on slot 1. Mine activated on its own, on multiple different brand radios. My TMobile sim didn't work on my Tesla style, in my truck but google fi did and cricket prepaid.

Regular sim but if you position a nano just right or get an adapter it might work

@@joncruz search nano sim adapter and look at the location of the hole. I've seen where people cut the adapter out of thick plastic (old credit card) and make an adapter, also.

why not just use your unlimited plan on your phone to watch movies? You don't need a separate SIM for that.
I was using my hot spot when i get in my car but since i already have an extra sim card thats already activated with 5G tmobile service i would much rather just use it for my head unit. The one that i purchased for my 2008 honda civic has a sim card dongle/adaptor however doesnt come with it which brings me to this video. I even hooked up the two separate usb 3.0 cables & made two ports in the lil cubby that sits under the head unit but for whatever reason android auto doesnt work either wirelessly or hard wired so im lookin to use the sim card method again since im already paying for the 3rd unlimited line on my family plan, why not u know.
I said all that just to forget my point 🤣. But yea i havent been able to use my phone either by projecting my screen onto the 12" headunit or by plugging up the usb for Android auto etc so this seems to be my next option 🤷♂️.
Or just buy another head unit but opt for the $400 one & hope it does the screen share option which isnt really very practical u know.
