He was working for Channel 10 after he moved to Australia, commentating on V8 Supercars and whenever the GP was on at Philip Island. I don't think it was broadcast outside of Australia, but here is a funny clip has him talking. th-cam.com/video/IahHznkEymQ/w-d-xo.html
Assen was special, the whole week was a big party, crazy Dutch & German bikers - my favourite GP. What miss about this era was as you walked through the woods to the track, what hit you was the noise & the smell of the 2strokes
@@voornaam3191 Miss that smell, some great battles with Schwantz, Rainey, Doohan etc..and the 250 class was full of great riders like Cadalora, Reggiani, Biaggi, Chili, local boy Wilco Zeelenberg always did good, can't remember if he won but definitely on the podium - Sidecars had a local hero too - saw Streuer win at Assen, beating even Webster & Biland - Yes Assen was special & the 2 stroke era the best
Such an exciting era of Grand Prix Racing!, with so many different classes; 50cc, 125cc, 250cc, 350cc, even Sidecar!, and 500cc! What happened to the Side Cars? What year was the last Side Car race..? Imagine what they could build today for a Side Car racer yikes!
BossaNossa1 yep, those were the days. The whole day taken up racing bikes finishing off with the sidecars. I used to love it. The sidecars were great in those days too. Though many used to leave as they raced. I stayed to watch them though as I thought the sidecars were fantastic to watch.
They would simply start their hybrids in electric mode, would they? Nothing special, really! It's about time they accept electric traction, isn't it? Moto Good Practice...
more or less....acording to rumors...50cc----20hp 125----42hp (Minarelli) 250cc ...70hp (Kawa) 500cc ...120hp (Suzi and Yam) Top speeds in Paul Ricard in 1980.....125...220kmh 250cc ...plus 245kmh 500cc...plus 280 kmh. (the only track which measured speed)
To bad a man ( business man ?) Kenny Roberts! 🐿️ Had only profit in his mind and has dropped small ccm and sidecar races . By now we have overpaid ' Stars " and teams with unlimited money . Just sucks it used to be fun to go to those races .. Now money money money 😭
I wish Barry would have lived longer... He would have been a great commentator of all the GP races, he was very charismatic!

You could hear that Assen 2stroke noise in London, too. That's why you are missing it, nowadays. ROOOAAAAR is not fun anymore. It is noise pollution.

@@GUNNERSIGHTZEROED a true fan
What a time when they had to start with engines off. Would be curious how it would look today if they would still have to do that.
They would simply start their hybrids in electric mode, would they? Nothing special, really! It's about time they accept electric traction, isn't it? Moto Good Practice...
Think about what time it was , Barry Sheen on a tiny 50cc bike , nice
Sheene wasn't on a 50CC!
@12:22 this is the 50cc race, right? Wow, what an era to have had a 50cc GP race! Man, they look like bicycles with fairings :)
Yeh, 50cc ! Before my time, but do remember watching 80cc racing at Assen...screaming engines, skinny tires & mad corner speed 😀
The 500cc's looks like a car with a fairing.
I saw the driving scene for the first time with NR500.
Man what a stunt Stefan Dorflinger went through , maybe his engine seized up and he did not recognised it in time
So what were the horse power for each class: 50cc, 125, 250, 350, 500...?

Poor Randy, came second, 4-times.
