I use to play this game in the arcade. It was HUGE! You placed your quarters on the glass to be the next challenger and try and defeat the current winner. A crowd would form (3-12 people on a Friday) watching. I remember A dude at the arcade would charge us 2 quarters to do the fatality when I won. He would throw a cardboard box over his hands with a hole cut in it, so you could not see the button sequence. That was before everyone had the Internet.
That's ridiculous but hilarious at the same time because the moves were mentioned in gaming magazines. I saw a kid writing them down and getting told off by the newsagent lol
I played with shang tsung and knew how to change to every character ( i still remember how even 20 years later). Now i don't even know my wife's number.
30 years and i still remember the last level password in good troop. I remember the place in the street my cuz told me. Banana Cherry emerald Ruby banana.
I'd like to take a moment to appreciate the klassic Shang Tsung players who took the time to find out and memorize the move list of all the kombatants. We salute you.
I don’t know if they had this on the arcade version but, in the SNES you could turn into Kintoro as a fatality and chomp down on your victim. It was fucking bad ass.
WooSung Choi yeah when I first was introduced to Shang Tsung in MK2 I instantly fell in love. This guy is still my fav character to this day. Kick ass!
JY008 I agree. His character change ability is every bit as powerful here as in MK1. Honestly, I kind of think he's too overpowered for a playable character.
@@floggyWM1Shang Tsung is overpowered because he can transform into any playable and use their moves, he has all them at his disposal. He also has the most overpowered technique, the triple fireball, if the first hits the rest will hit too, even if you block you will take a good chunk of damage. The combat with Shao Khan shows why this move is so powerful, you only have to spam it all time to defeat the final boss.
Easter egg: In Shang Tsung’s ending it gives a reference to Raiden’s MK1 ending with both endings saying “Have a Nice Day” possibly meaning both had dark endings
1: I kind of wish they gave Shang Tsung a sort of redemption arc for his ending. 2: I love how minor this game makes Shang Tsung look compared to Shao Kahn shows he was just a pawn all this time 3: Great gameplay
That’s the thing about Tsung’s character though he is always self centered and evil. If he did do anything good it would be out of pure self interest and not to help anyone
People wants to play as the villian, hence why Bowser is playable in Smash Bros and in a couple of the RPGs. Not all villains are Darth Vader with a tragic backstory, the classic villains are just evil just because and need no sympathy to make you like them.
Aw man, such sweet memories! How I wish we had online multiplayer in the 90’s! Once I got every move in this game down I was feeling awesome! Would’ve used Shang Tsung every time! The only move in this entire game I never really got comfortable using was Reptile’s invisibility but overall it wouldn’t have mattered to me lol
@ 14.45 I don't think I've seen many people beat up Kintaro that easy, man these Mortal Kombat games were a real challenge. Players didn't have access to punisher Combos and they had to think hard and concentrate and do the best they could with what they had it was like Streetfighter. Nice Playthrough!.
The later versions ended a lot of these combos and the AI was much harder to best. I know for a fact the jump into a roundhouse kick counter was taken out.
This game brings me back to the early to mid 90's. i would back up a buddy of mine with money and betting and he'd play. We both made out good for a few hours of game play. Good times.
Watching this as I go along. Can’t wait until you get to play against Shang Tsung as Shang Tsung using Shang Tsung’s likeness and Shang Tsung’s moveset.
Three things... 1) great playthrough, really enjoyable to watch. 2) I'd forgotten all about the Kintaro morph fatality, took me right back and I recall having to hold a button (low punch?) for a long while / from the begnning of the round. 3) That Revolution X advert at the end had also escaped my memory. I believe that was a dubious music themed shooter, but could be misremembering. Anyhow, thanks again and keep up the great content - new subber.
Shang Tsung is the most dangerous character in the whole franchise. Not only he can shape shift into other fighters, but he also know their attacks and their fatalities and he can use it on them.....😬
Tucka Matt It's not that hard if you know (and exploit) AI-flaws in the game, like arcadegamesfreak does. He did that on his MK1-playthrough as well, against Goro. But, despite all that, he's still pretty skilled, that's for sure, al be it only because he knows all Tsung's morphs, as well as every player's special moves and fatalities. That's sure counts for something :-)
Oh thank you arcadegamesfreak for up loading this. Many people in many arcades in 94-95ish met their ends at the hands of my Shang Tsung avatar... Good times.

You definitely got that cheesy little uppercut distance down. Oh no you can't let him get tossed because it's nearly impossible to toss him when he's played by the computer at the end. Lol also I'll never understand how Johnny Cage has three heads but I do the three-headed fatality as well.. I guess it's just one of my pet peeves but I do a lot more throws than anybody I've seen on any of these mortal Kombat game. To me the last thing I want to do is get bested in a judo match.
