They should make a sequel for this, but I highly doubt that'll happen cause all the love has gone to Scorpion in NRS now. This game was made when they still love Liu Kang and Kung Lao
+Raver1601 As unfortunate as it is, I believe you are right. As awesome as a sequel to this game would be, the new fighting games are much higher on their priorities.
I can imagine the humiliation that Shang Tsung must've felt when he got beaten once again, only in front of Shao Kahn, even though he planned to betray his emperor. I also really love this version of Shao Kahn
I like this Shao Kahn too, here he sounds very well spoken, he feels like an actual Emperor with authority and honor as opposed to the new MK games where he’s just a dumb brute and his minions have to pretty much plan for him.

It took me and my cousin a few all nighters to beat shao khan, once we finally did the game crashed during the cut scene this is actually my first time seeing the ending hahahahaha
would have been nice if the game just let you start over with whatever boss you currently lose to, instead of just starting with Shang Tsung every single time you die. I'm sorry, but that's just rage enducing. If there ever is a remake or remaster, that's something that needs to be fixed. Great game, but that's just a glaring flaw that personally irritates me.
Co-op for this fight was painful due to that shared HP bar. It might not look that hard because these guys are good/smart and have chemistry together, but playing with a newbie was the same as throwing your sanity out of the window once Shao Kahn got his hammer. The rest of the game is fine, you can easily carry your friend, but Shao Kahn is just overwhelming.
I've done it while not having anyone controlling the second player, but I had to learn the game in an entirely new way for it to even be possible though.
I played this game with my brother and we made it to Shao Kahn, however we never did beat him. We would often panic when he brings out the hammer which makes us easy prey to Shao Kahn

The final boss fight against Shao Khan feels out of place when he basically reveals that Shang Tsung is the main antagonist of the story and that you did him a favor by killing him
I disagree I think it does a good job of showing that he’s a master manipulator as well as a formidable force. It makes sense given how he got rid of Onaga by being an excellent tactician
Such a great game! They utilized the fatality system very uniquely. I remember being so young I would mess them up and have to defeat the boss all over again lol

I remember playing this game with my brother and I would always need him to help me with the 2 player mode, but once we got to the final 3 fights, he instantly gave up cause "This is Hard Dude!" And I had to play the game solo and I beat the final boss fine lmao.
I remember playing this game within a month or two of it's release. Pulled out my dusty PS2, hooked it up to a 30" box TV, played it with poorly made Dualshock controllers, and never stopped playing it. As just a young boy I once was at the time, I skipped dinner days and days at a time so I can continue to advance in the realm of Mortal Kombat, Shaolin Monks. I finally got to the last boss. I found the hidden room, majorly helped me, knew I was gonna win. I beat the first of 3 bosses on the level, thought I won MK. Oh boy, was I wrong. A quad-armed beast came out of nowhere! My co-player and I had murdered this beast at an almost flawless rate. Then Shao Khan jumped down. He was at 10-20% health, when we were slain by a hammer of doom. For months, and months, I had played that level, repetitively. I never, once beat it. 'Til this day, I have never defeated Shao Khan, and that's why I, Sub-Zero rule the realms of MK from the basis of hell, hiding to my own extent. The gods felt so much pity upon my lack of powers they made a weird dimension known as a "game". It was my own, I owned it. I decided to reattempt Shao Khan. I trained for hours. I didn't eat for days. I didn't jerk off for weeks. I didn't beat Shao Khan, neither. But I did say Toasty about 300 times, and that's all that matters.
+CT x iiTryHard Shao kahn is easy if you use L2+X when he spins his hammer to avoid. when shao kahn start to spins his hammer, just keep holding L2 and move left analog stick to opposite direction from him, then press X when he gets closer, you have to press X 5 times. i beat him without getting any damage from him
it needs to happen now that i think about it, quan chi has the artifact but the story from deadly alliance and deception couldn't have came from this one seeing as how quan chi had the artifact but him and shang tsung had to kill shao kahn in deadly alliance
Shaolin Monks is non canon anyways, there's actually no reason NOT to do a sequel, this game was (and still is) amazing and with a sequel they'd earn a lot of money.
Shaolin Monks is just a retelling/remake of MK2...the plot with Quan Chi happens in MK4 and onwards (also in MK X which is MK4 in an alternate universe or reality, caused by Raiden changing the past in MK 9), they don't need to make a sequel to that plot point. We already know what happened.
This is the definition of the game we didn’t ask for but the game we needed such a classic now we ask for it now and the won’t give the ppl what they want
If this game gets a remasterization, I hope they make playable, at least, the 8 characters from the 'vs mode' in the story mode. But it would be great if they add others, like Ermac, Kano, Jax, Mileena or Jade also as playable characters in the story mode.
Rather than making the 8 character playable, it would've been suffice if they made it 4 player team in story mode, so we can play as Liu Kang,Kung Lao,Sub-Zero and Scorpion
I remember soloing this fight with just liu kang. Its the endurance round of all of three fights that really tests your patience. Especially with Shao Kahn.
This takes me back to my high school days. I used Kung Lao the first time I played and could not for the life of me get past the Reptile stage with the giant snakes. I was soo pissed and frustrated, I took a week or two off from this game the day I got it. Finally picked it up one day and got past it though. Then I used Kang. Kang was better because he was easier to use.(though they both were eazy to use) I know I must have beaten this game atleast 100 times both single and Co Op by myself! Filled up every game slot on the memory card. Good MK times, plus MKII was always my favorite MK game, so Shaolin Monks was basically MKII the adventure game.

Ahh.. the nostalgia me and my best friend who lived beside my house used to play this game all day long while we were in grade school, this dude that using hammer was absolute bonkers we had to call our senior in grade school to come to my house to beat this dude, lol and yet we all failed

Also guy we 4 arms hit him with circle button and then jump away and hit them again with circle burn repeat process. And for the final boss this video is really good example on fighting the main boss

I remember that we didn't have the card to save our progress, so me and my bro would always try to get as far as we could possibly go and we never reached the end
When I had the game,I was stuck on Kintaro so I never did beat the game and after seeing this video I now know I was at the final boss this whole time 💀
I love this game since this was basically my Childhood. Me and my brother had a PS2 and we loved Mortal Kombat we would play this one the most as it was our favorite and it was Co-op
Best part is that on Kintaro part, Kahn is not on his throne and keep doing the narration of the fight. I used to say his was in the bathroom before fight XD
I don't get it, no sequel even though a teaser is there on the epilogue scene. I hoped for more adventure co-op MK games like this. The upcoming MK 1 should have been an adventure game like SM... It was a wasted opportunity for a change of pace.
too bad Shaolin Monks didn't get a sequel. So much potential with the can of worms it opened due to the differences in events, just like with MK9. X-D Plus it woulda been badass to have Shinnok and Quan Chi as the big villains!
There’s plenty of secrets in the game you can go back and collect! This was my buddy’s first time playing so we didn’t want to do a 100% playthrough at the time 😁
I was 7 years old the time I'd played this game off, never took at last bosses but I did enjoy the game, I can't even remember the stages lol nostalgic.

That’s a great strategy! My buddy playing Kung Lao was new to the game, so we were playing a more defensive strategy😂

When he turns into reptile, spam square button if you’re pretty good at it you can beat him with full health. Also guy we 4 arms hit him with circle button and then jump away and hit them again with circle burn repeat process. And for the final boss this video is really good example on fighting the main boss

I don't get it, no sequel even though a teaser is there on the epilogue scene. I hoped for more adventure co-op MK games like this. The upcoming MK 1 should have been an adventure game like SM... It was a wasted opportunity for a change of pace.

There are parts that open up from the early areas and i think there are also secret bosses
There’s plenty of secrets in the game you can go back and collect! This was my buddy’s first time playing so we didn’t want to do a 100% playthrough at the time 😁
