Best comment ever...Sitting on a runway in Denver...Storm was approaching. Pilot says will gonna wait out the storm..I don't like to take off into storms.Passengers were murmering . And then he said I think you all would rather be down here wishing you were up there then to be up there wishing you were down here ! Everybody got quiet ! lol l

P Fulton Technically, the only the number of takeoffs will differ from number of landings is if the thing taking off is going to orbit.
On the other hand, I certainly prefer the number of takeoffs to equal the number of landings without incident. Failing that, landing without casualties.

jayralstonsmith3 Believe what you want... I'm not gonna waste my time trying to convince you. But it was under his breath, he was obviously pissed, and I assure you that it DID happen. I have a friend who I played in Jazz I with at UMD that flies 767's for Delta out of LAX to Asia. I told him the story and he said that he wasn't surprised. ALL of the airlines put pressure on pilots to "keep the schedule" and it often is a point of tension between management and pilots even when safety is concerned. Allegiant recently fired a pilot for diverting when they had a smoke condition in the aircraft. Alaska Airlines famously encouraged the MD-80 that crashed off the coast at LAX while trying to make an emergency landing because of a broken elevator jackscrew to continue flying to SFO. Anyway, it DOES happen. I DID hear exactly what I said I heard... and I guess I DID waste a bit of my time trying to convince you, didn't I? Nitey night. :-)

J.D. Turner I have respect for airlines, like Qantas, that accept the Captain’s decisions in these matters without question. In theory, all airlines do that, but in practice there are too many airlines where the pressure from airline operators to meet schedules at any cost could result in another crew on another airline taking a risk. Bravo to this Captain and his decision to exercise caution.

Most pilots don't give one thought to the livestock along for the ride when they're in an emergency.... their primary goal is arriving home at the end of the flight with ten fingers, ten toes and a healthy heartbeat.... remember, almost aways when a plane crashes the flight crew are the first to bite the big one and I don't think I've ever heard a CVR where the pilots didn't attempt to rectify the problem, regain control, aviate and navigate that fucker till it slammed into Terra Firma...

    • @PhoebeChloe3

I really don't care whether the captain puts her or his safety above my own; the result is the same: I get to go home to my family, just as the flight crew and all the other passengers do. I'd far rather be inconvenienced waiting for a fully-functional airplane, than endure the terror or worse that could result from a cowboy in the cockpit avoiding warning signs of a mechanical problem. I feel rather the same way about surgeons. Anyone who holds my life in their hands has my permission to inconvenience me for safety's sake.@@gmctech

Engine problems after push-back, back to the terminal, four hour wait, then a night at an airport hotel. This occurred on Dec. 28th, the very day the AirAsia A320-216 crashed off Indonesia. To say other passengers were jittery was an understatement. Departed safe & sound early the next morning.

Fantastic work by the Pilots, & the Captain, very well spoken!!! We got to the end of the runway, started going down the runway speeding up for takeoff, and then I suddenly heard a pop and we were slowing down. The pilot came on and said the control tower told them to abort because another plane got in the way (the pop was suddenly braking). He did tests and ran through the check list, and after ensuring everything was okay, took off 20 minutes later. We landed in Seattle only 4 minutes late.

If any of the trolls who had snide comments ever had a chance to fly a twin (or larger) engine plane with one (or more) engines out, you may change your opinion about the importance of safety and the impossibility of a safe flight. There are absolutes in the airline industry, but getting your cranky butt to the next destination is not as high on the priority list. Flying low and slow is stupid. Remember the 777 going into San Francisco? And that was with BOTH engines running perfectly, the problem was the plane was not even being flown well, let alone perfectly.
