Brought back a lot of memories with my DSi XL, it's still the best way to play DS games with the big screen and native resolution. The battery life is fantastic, too.
Yeah, I remember getting the DSi for Christmas back in 2011, and playing it with my family that morning. So about the microphone, it's used for the sound app in the system, which you can record up to 10 seconds of audio and mess with it (like pitch and speed) and optionally for Flipnote Studio, which is also built in the system. Also it doesn't record video, probably due to memory and camera limitations of the DSi. The 3 LEDs also indicate power, charge, and wireless communication, FYI. I also remember my DSi including a 2GB SD card as well, which was brand new in box.
I had the burgundy DSi XL, the size was perfect for me. When I bought it, the blue had only been announced. I liked the burgundy over other red colored systems. I like subtle or laid back colors, which is why I opted for the gray Switch over the neon. I preferred the pen stylus over the one in the console.
Nice video as always Bob! Just a thought; not sure if you store your handhelds with the rechargeable batteries in them, but if you do, you should take them out. They can expand as they start to age and crack your chassis. I just store my batteries fully charged in a separate sturdy container away from my handhelds.
I remember the 3rd light for the indicators was charging. It would glow orange for when your dsi was plugged in and charging, and return to dark when it was full.
26:06 Actually that is a picture of the DSi XL on the front of the manual. Notice the corners of the console right next to the "Operations" text, the curve is different.
No the DSi could not shoot video. The 3DS got that feature (in 3D too!) The mic however could be used in the sound app to record short samples to modify with effects and whatnot. The DSi XL is by far in my opinion the best handheld Nintendo has ever made. DS games look amazing (even better than any model of the 3DS even when holding start to force original resolution), the built in speakers sound very clear and go pretty loud, the battery life is still very good after 10 years of age, and the hardware as a whole feels very premium and nice in the hands.
But are you aware that those soft touch material get glossy over time. This looks very horrible. I have the ds i in black and it looks so used because of those glossy parts now
Seems the DSi could not record video. There are likely 2 reasons for the camera being on the hinge. 1- It was easier to put it there than on the top screen. Doesn't have to compete with the screen and the speakers and everything else. Keeps it thinner. 2- It's also more natural to look at. Your face is probably looking at the space between the two screens so you're naturally looking at the hinge. Why not put the camera there? It also seems the DSi did not come with an SD card. The three lights are for internet, charging, and battery status.Weird they have 2 lights for kinda the same thing. Good thing Nintendo fixed that in the 3DS-whoops! Spoiled the future!

“The Health and Safety Precautions Booklet that nobody reads...” 😂
This is very true, I never read them!
me to
Also, I never realised how sleek the blue DSi XL was!
It is pretty darn sweet. I have that one and find it to be a color combination that actually looks great beside the black and turquoise 2DS XL.

The DSi model is actually one of the first video game consoles I ever played. I got it when I was 4 or 5 years old.
It's amazing how premium the DSi XL looks and feels lol
the old DS lite charger takes 450 mAh vs. 900 mAh of the DSi charger. So that's why the bricks are different. I still have my DSi
Your videos are the best! Thank you so much.
The DSi prototype had that expansion slot but was removed to make it slimmer and lighter.

DSi XL was my first Nintendo handheld, this brought back fun memories!
Yo it’s my boi Shroomtube! Please come back.

Hey there! Thanks for the tip. I do keep all of the batteries out of my handhelds while they are not in use.
Been looking for a unboxing video like this
Nice. Had a DSi and a DS lite at the same time. Helped a lot for Pokemon.

HE HAS RETURNED

I’m getting a DSI cuz my last one broke 7 years ago and I still have some of the games and it was my childhood
I remember playing the DSi with my friends back in elementary school 😣😭
The DSi XL is my favorite console out of all the DS’

I had the dsi xl in wine red and my brother had the dsi in black
I think the white DSi goes along with the white of the Wii since the DSi is kind of a portable Wii. Do you still have your black DSi by the way?
The Original DSi Was My Favorite
The DS charger is so werid on the US.
Here (Europe) it's like 3DS' but with the same connector and color of DS.
Also very nice!
Do you know if there are any clear skins available anywhere to protect the outer body of the DSi XL?
Do you think you will post again soon?
DSi Was In 2008
Link for brand new dsi?
Great unboxing!
I don’t think your French pronunciation is all that bad. I think it’s somewhat good! At least you tried which is good.
