Hey I was there! I bought a print from you that day :) i could not tell it was your first maker’s market at all lol. This was an interesting look into the behind the scenes of the fine art world, makers’ markets and accessible pricing in art. As someone who’s not in art but is an art enjoyer and has friends in art, some of the points about getting visibility for your work and pricing your art sounds familiar to me :’) happy to see that you’re getting to do art full time now! That is a huge deal
No way! That’s amazing! Thanks for watching and for grabbing a print! I love that. And I appreciate you saying I looked experienced! I worked in retail for a long time so applied a lot of my skills from that to look less nervous! Glad you liked the perspective and what was different. 😊 And yeah, the full time artist thing is a wild ride but I love this ride! :) appreciate ya being a part of it!
Oh my gosh, I am SO conflicted when people tell me to raise my prices. I also hate capitalism and would prefer to have accessible prices, so totally get you on that!
Right! I’d rather have relationships with folks that sustain what I do than only relationships with people who seldom might. Purchase one thing for over $500. Eventually I know we will all have to raise our prices to survive and eat (thanks capitalism) but it’s a beautiful act of solidarity to keep things affordable I think.
Whoa there lol big question to ask in TH-cam comments but here’s the simple answer. I’m pro worker through and through. The current system - without STRONG unions - harms more people than it helps. The shareholders have all the power, not the people making the profits possible. Plus the way venture capital (black rock and vanguard) own most companies, lets too few people hold too much power
Artists living off the proceeds of their art is a pipedream. Learn a technical trade and support yourself and your art. After all art is not about money.
When I was a graffiti writer, what I loved was that we were skipping the whole gallery world, and just going to the source/ end user!

Hehe
Galleries are only interested in what the artist can do for them.
100% agree with you here!
lol didn’t think it was about classism and art ethics
