    One factor that we can place John on at the first part of this movie is, this is 4 years during his "retirement", he is aware that everyone would respect this decision and nobody from his past would come in and just end him. Factor 2 - Viggo's son and his 2 pals for some reason is unaware of who John Wick is or knows his face, probably new guys after John Wick's retirement. With these, we can say that John was not physically prepared and aware of an attack that is why he was ambushed with a bat from behind and decided not to fight back as he is still in his "retirement mode". Viggo's son didn't kill John because in his head, this guy is a chump with an expensive car and a Beagle.

    12:05 while I mostly agree with you guys that in most cases you wouldn't be able to just get back up after getting hit by a car like that. I actually have a video(taken by a security camera at a gas station) of my husband getting hit by a pickup truck while he's walking across the parking lot with a cup of coffee, and he flies about 5 to 6 feet. Afterwords, he just got up, said "f*ck! I need another coffee." Went and got one and then went to work(yes, I did try and get him to go to the hospital). This happened while I was an installer at a car stereo shop in Flint, MI and the shit we would see looking out the bay doors on slow summer days was mind boggling. Hooker fights over territory, hooker stings where the undercovers would sit in our parking lot, cops chasing kids stealing boxes from the frito lay truck at the liquor shop next door, bums shit in bags then use the bag as a pillow while laying in traffic, hookers turning tricks in a vacant lot out the back of a uhaul truck while the pimp sold rugs as a front from that same uhaul, the list is almost endless. The reason the dog is so important is cause his dying wife knowing she was dying bought him the dog and left him with it so he wouldn't be alone.

    • @ShaggyRogers1
      @ShaggyRogers1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not only that, she bought the dog while having it arranged to be delivered after she passed. She made a point to make it an attachment for him as a memory of her passing, and not a reminder of her still being alive. The dog was meant to be a very specific coping mechanism, and Viggo and his goons fucked that up almost immediately.

    About the car thing: it depends how you get hit by a car. There are multiple videos where the person gets hit by a car or truck, but because it hit the whole side of their body, the impact is more spread out and they are able to get up from it, even if it knocked them airborne. Getting hit by a car is like getting shot - deadly if it happens a certain way, survivable if it happens another.

    So everyone misunderstands the last fight between John and Vigo.
    Once Vigo realizes its Game over, he challenges John to hand to hand combat to death. Johm understands that Vigo wants to out the anger and frustration he has inside to be able.to go in peace. So John agrees to hand to hand combat, knowing that he will let Vigo have the upper hand for a while to get it all out, before wrapping it up.for him.
    But Vigo pulls out a knife and that moment shows why John Wick is the person he is. He uses Vigo's blade to stab himself as if to say, "there you go, ypu fuckin killed me. Now you can go.in peace." And then kills him.
    An action of honor and a professional courtesy to a man he omce respected, now caught between his son's crime and his duty as a father to protect him.
    Many people dont get the last fight.

  • @allencowan6692
    @allencowan6692 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Late to this party, but the thing that pisses me off about the final boss fight is this....
    Viggo explains to his son that in order for John to "retire", Viggo gave him an "impossible" mission. While I don't think he lays it all out, he implies John basically wiped out Viggo's competition, making Viggo the man he is now.
    Which further implies (to me anyway) that Viggo did NOT have the skills to stand mano y mano with John in the end.
    Love these movie recaps. Good fun.

    Context matters, my guy. John was absolutely broken when the attack happened. He'd been happily retired to be with his wife, then she up and died all of a sudden, and the only thing left behind of her was a puppy. John was in the worst place he'd ever been in his life and got blindsided. So basically he was in no way, shape, or form in the right mental space to be "Baba Yaga" like usual. He was just a grieving man wading through life and they caught him off guard. If he'd been fresh off his last job, he would've killed them at the gas station for wasting his time in the first place.

    After we learned how badass John Wick is as the movie goes on, I had the same thought... how the hell was he taken out by those idiot thugs in the start?
    Then I assumed it was his depression from his wife dying, not being in a good place mentally to really defend or even want to defend himself. Then they kill the last thing his wife gave him... which changes his depression to murderous rage that gives him the motivation to snap out of it and go kill some mofo's.
    If these idiots didn't kill his dog and just stole the car I assume we'd have no movie because he'd still be wallowing in depression with a cute puppy.

    You ABSOLUTELY can cuss in front of children, that is how all my children learned swear words!!! It usually gets cross looks from mothers, who tend not to appreciate it, but many of the dad's find it quite amusing.

    7:46 here steel silhuettes are popular for competitions and everyone uses big bores or magnums because if you get a grazing hit you'll still knock the target over.
    I don't know about the practicality of magnum calibers, however I'm certain he could get away with it if he was using a magnum.

    The 2nd John Wick was awesome martial arts wise. He was judo throwing people and there was like a solid minute where he’s doing jiu jitsu with the bodyguard guy. And then in the 3rd John Wick they went full Hollywood flying side kicks with the fighting and I was bummed 🥲

    the getting hit by a car thing...was walking to work at OSU and no exageration watched a guy not paying attention get hit by a sedan going about 30mph in a cross walk. Guy never saw it coming and flipped up in the air over the car and landed in a spiderman pose on the street. There were about 10 people around the intersection who all just looked at one another and in that time the guy got off his knee, stood up and walked to the sidewalk. The car slowed for about 2 seconds and then flooored it out of there. It can happen.

    Coming back for watching this, although the John Wick films were good and realistic, the full auto moment at the church was a little off for me since it felt like he fired more than 30 rounds from a 30 round magazine. But what made me come back to watch this is to just watch you both have so much fun with the challenge of not swearing, and end up drinking and saying what you’re gonna say from a paper, which cracks me up real good.

    15:50 john can purchase anything he wants in the first movie and second, so he is more than capable of buying demolition explosives he can at that time ask for favors and some fellow assassins would be more than glad to as it will also give them a chance to cash in the favor on a later day they absolutely need him

  • @Michael_MW
    @Michael_MW ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Glad to hear you guys poking fair and honest holes in John Wick. I am sick of everyone saying it's "so realistic" just because the actors did a bunch of target shooting. It's not realistic, because real life isn't perfect. You can't take that level of beating. And shooting the same standing targets over and over is one thing, shooting live, moving people while they are actively trying to shoot you is something else. Especially when you consider the fact that in many of these scenes he is actively wrestling with one tango while making accurate shots on another. He makes moves in this movie that imply he is /certain/ he will kill his threat. Nobody on Earth is that certain.
    If we were being real, a real "expert assassin" would not put themselves in "do or die" situations like that in the first place. Example: John shoots a guy, then jumps on his back. As he rides the guy he one-handed shoots the next tango in the head. He cannot control how the 2 tango's move, so he is very likely to miss that shot. If he did miss it during the narrow window he had to shoot the 2nd perp, he would have gotten shot and died right there.
    People... please stop calling this movie "so realistic". (Don't even get me started on the armor, horse, knife, and sword scenes.) This is not how real life or death fights look. It's Hollywood, and it is embellished. But good for them for actually learning about firearms and practicing before filming these movies. That is already a hell of a lot better than most of the BS we see.
    Great review guys, your drinking game was hilarious!

    Guys, I love these videos and this channel. That being said, allow me to recommend to you to check out the most realistic military tv series called Strike Back. I got hit by a truck when I was a kid and was just fine. I was playing in the street with my friends and we dropped the ball across a small intersection. I ran as fast as I could to catch the ball while crossing the street and the intersection and didn't have time to see the truck that was coming from the corner of a building. Timing was not good, I was running too fast to stop or change direction so I jumped. The driver slammed the brakes but the truck still struck me mid-air durring my jump, essentially bumping me over from my initial direction. I landed on my feet, hurt my right shoulder a bit, but I was otherwise unscathed. Not a bruise, not a scratch, just a good scare and an ear full from the driver who was yelling and cursing at me.

    Ref your comments at 12.08. I literally got side swiped by a ute whilst attempting to repossess the thing. Driver was using it as a weapon. Got knocked about 5 meters. Got up got my own vehicle and chased the ute down and finished the repo. Could hardly walk the next day and hurt for about a week. So it is possible.
