Just a quick update about the future of the channel and why I removed the web shop and apologies to all my viewers, Have a great New Year. #masdevalliaorchids #greenhouse #youtubechannel
Got some masdevallia`'s . Mostly intermediate and fragrant. Always enjoyed your channel .Looked towards it for advice and inspiration. Hope you continue to give advice and show off your masdevallia's. i`ll play your video`s on a continuous loop to help with the watch hours. Have a great weekend.
Hi Mick, I really missed your videos and your shop. Please do carry on with the utube so much information and experience that i have gained, having watched your channel . Would like more plants from you ,what sellers are selling your plants. I am looking forward to your next video. All the best for the new year.
Hi Colin nice to hear from you, I'll keep you informed by email when I've made the final decision about selling divisions "you never know I could send out a private List with pics" anyway thanks for your comments much appreciated and have a great New Year.
Mick, it is great seeing you again. Happy New Year to you and your family. As far as TH-cam and your other ventures, my best advice is do what is good for you. For a while I had a very small TH-cam channel with very few viewers, I made videos for the channel more for me than the viewers. But I enjoyed sharing them and my few viewers learned from my successes and failures, so I know I was doing a good thing. I had to shut down my channel because real life got in the way. But honestly when things slow down for me I will start the channel up again. Even if it means I have only one subscriber I know that one person has an interest in what I have to say and if I help a single person be successful then my videos accomplished something. My whole venture into TH-cam was not to make money, not to get 100,000 subscribers. It was to share my knowledge, and I enjoyed doing it. Thank you as always for taking time out of your life for us.
@@donivanstryker1340 it was annoying knowing that YT received the income from the ads on my videos I do enjoy it so let’s see how it goes and your right about sharing your knowledge through YT especially when it helps other growers, Happy new year.
@@angelawilliams5389 thanks once again Angela I think I’m going to continue to record my growing experience and share with other like minded orchid enthusiasts .
Hi Mick. New subscriber here. I use to watch your videos then wondered where you went. I’m sure you were missed by a lot of people. I hope you decide to continue. However, it is up to you. You know what is best for you. I have heard from other TH-cam videos that you have the best plants🥇 Hope to see your next video soon. Take care.
Many thanks for your compliments I have decided to continue and trying to do weekly update since this video I have released another two hope you enjoy and thanks for subscribing the more the merrier have a great day.
Hi Mick great to see you again Happy New Year..sorry it's such a nightmare with you cost of defra and website sounds like you would be better off just doing the TH-cam videos like you used to do it's always nice to see your Masdevallia's and Dracula's not many people grow and show these amazing orchids... Well I closed my Channel down largely because I lost interest in just about everything due to the loss of my wife back in July but I am getting back into my orchids again I'm building myself a new greenhouse to better house my collection in . Anyway all the best for the new year hope to see more of your Masdevallia's cheers

@MicksMasdevalliaorchids OK thanks Mick 👍Yes decided I needed a project I'm just waiting for slightly better weather before I can start building this greenhouse out of 3x2 timber and polycarbonate glazing
Hi Mick, Happy New Year! Fingers crossed we continue seeing more of you in the years coming. One of the ideas for you to sell plants would be at shows? Im not sure where exactly youre based, but if traveling isnt too difficult, that would be an option in addition to farmers markets and such. More people with the knowledge of the plants and interest in them. I do hope you continue, both videos and selling in some form as it's always good information and very healthy plants!
@@Rasa.Lewis22 Many thanks for your continued support and comments, hopefully I’ll continue to provide videos and I’m sure eventually I’ll be able to sell my divisions without postage.
The pandemic created huge numbers of new channels most of which were not sustainable. Although this created much more choice for viewers, these small channels made little or no money for TH-cam so they needed a 'cull'. By making it more difficult to get monetised, many just stopped making vids and packed it in. From a business point of view, TH-cam pushes the biggest channels as they produce the most income and the huge numbers of new small channels were seen as a distraction from where the income was generated. By reducing the number of active channels, TH-cam concentrated viewers onto the profitable channels by reducing choice. It is a company driven by greed/profits and I don't agree with a fair bit of what they have done. My point is that the only way to grow is to keep at it - it's very hard to really get going on TH-cam now-a-days especially with a niche subject like 'orchids'. All the best for 2025 in whatever you choose to do. If you enjoy making videos, then make videos!
Thanks for that Roger I totally agree with your statement and yes it is difficult nowadays to progress with youtube they do tend to promote larger channels I suppose its in there interests financially I've also notice they tend to promote far more news and geopolitical channels, but as you say keep at it I'm still considering my options but I do enjoy picking a camera up and waffling on lol.
Recent subscriber to your channel and find the information really useful. I only have 3 masdevallias but would love to expand this if I can work out how to grow them indoors or in an unheated but reasonably bright potting shed. It’d be great to continue receiving your knowledge through the channel.
New to your site. I loved your video describing how to propagate sphagnum moss. Finally, a succinct, well explained video that shows how it’s done. Then I saw your very heart wrenching video with you saying that you might give this all up! Please don’t! You obviously have a passion for plants that is infectious! I subscribed to your TH-cam channel right after your video. Don’t concern yourself with the finances. That will work itself if you can focus on the joy of being in your greenhouses. I haven’t seen all your videos yet, but have you done tours of your greenhouses and your house gardens? And maybe you could get a small sponsorship from the company that makes those green bottom growth plates you use. You don’t need much to keep going. I understand about all the fees and taxation. I am in Canada. But you can do it! Please don’t give up! Check out Benji garden and Mr. Sheffield’s TH-cam sites. They do indoor gardening and have grown a lot over the years by getting sponsorship from lighting companies, pre-made soils, decorative spikes to hold up plants, organic fertilizers, etc. I’m sure you could find sponsors. Maybe even local ones. Good luck! I’m cheering for you from Canada!🇨🇦
@@MarciaMcBride-m4n Thank you for spending your time watching and commenting on my channel, yes I do enjoy growing this genus of orchid they are truly amazing and beautiful when in bloom and on occasions quite difficult to grow or should I say get the environment right and your on a winner. Hopefully 2025 will be better. Happy new year Mate.🎉

@MicksMasdevalliaorchids thank you, good to hear you will keep making Videos. I think in general orchids aint hyped up as much as they used to, like 10 years ago. With Phalaenopsis taking over the plant market. There are so many species of orchids, i think close to 30k now. Sadly like masdevalia they aint spoken much about. Keeping orchids is still niches. Many keep them under glass but mainly miniature orchids. I think moden plant people like variegated stuff the most, i dont understand why. Since i think the species are the most beautiful thing in the world ☺️. Sure they are harder to keep but so much worth it.
Sorry to hear you have had so many problems trying to get set up with websites and DEFRA. Everyone seems to want a slice of the pie before it's even made these days! I hope you continue to make the videos. I'll run some playlists to help out with the watched hours.
