- A look back at British metal band TANK. Originally started as a three-piece and founded by Algy Ward, TANK has gone through several lineup changes and a few small style changes, but their 80s albums are still fantastic and worth a listen (or revisit) today. Join me as I go through their history and every album (for all three versions) of this classic NWOBHM band.

"Filth Hounds of Hades" is a stone cold classic! BLOOD, GUTS AND BEER!!
No doubt \m/
In my Top One of NWBHM records 😂
@@georgemaranville3305 😆
Tank are a one of the most underrated NWOBHM bands! Thanks for highlighting them!
RIP Algy Ward.
When Algy passed - I then knew just how much I liked TANK.
One of my favorite 80's Metal group! Rip Algy. There albums are underrated especially the first album.
Same. Filth Hounds is a hell of a record beginning to end!
I love Tank so much, Honour and Blood is probably one of my favourite albums of all time.
RIP Algy.
My favorite by Tank 🤘
Me too. Tank is such a special band, raw and epic.
Yeah, H&B is Tank's best record.
Theyre a band that should get a lot more recognition. Their stuff was always amazing and it got overlooked by a lot of metalheads over here
Tank is one of those bands that gives fans of fast, thumping heavy metal what they want; fast and thumping heavy metal.
Whenever I think of Tank, the first song that comes to mind is "Run Like Hell"
I'm first. Tank rules!
Honour and Blood!
That opening riff gets my blood pumping along with
When all hell freezes over!
La formazione con Algy Ward e i fratelli Brabbs era Grandissima, il loro primo album , heavy metal purissimo ,Mitici 🤟🤟🤟
One of the best purchases I ever made was that 1981-2002 boxset. Pricey, but worth every penny. RIP Algy
I requested this months ago, so I'm gonna watch it thinking it's just for me🤘
The first four Tank albums are four of the greatest hard rock albums of all time.
Especially "Honour and Blood" is awesome record.
Great band, great video!
🫡🤘🏻
So happy you took on tank! Would love to see you tackle NWOBHM band Demon they played with so many different sounds.
My favorite nwobhm Band beside Angel Witch And Raven! R.I.P Algy Ward
OK, I"m going to blow up the internet. First, didn't know Algy had passed. Shame on me. TANK, inconsistent as they were, WERE SO GOOD. I recall Jason Newsted saying in an Alternative Press interview (going way back here) that Lars listened to them a lot. (THEN WHY NO TANK SONG ON GARAGE DAYS? Unforgivable.) Post Filth Hounds, Kerrang basically helped destroy their career (not that their live shows helped). When their box set came out, Algy was pretty vocal that they wouldn't see a dime from it and didn't exactly encourage fans to purchase. I still have some of their 7" records. As different as Filth Hounds and Power of the Hunter were, I still loved Power (but prefer Filth). Ok, didn't blow up the internet that much but thanks for starting this dialogue. Poor Algy. Always seemed like he was just barely getting by. RIP Algy.
Tank is a great band, hope to see Rage (this one will be a LONG video) or Grave Digger in the next ones.
I remember hearing “Hot Lead Cold Steel” back in 1984 on KMET’s Friday night Mighty Metal Hour. It’s still my favorite Tank song.
I remember that show well. Hosted by Jim Ladd. RIP to both.
The Osmond cover was awesome
Thank you so much for posting this video. Tank always has been and always will be one of my all time favorite bands. As long as Algy was fronting the band. I commend you on the info you passed along within the video, even if I disagreed with most of what you said about the music itself. Your video channel is such a wealth of info on bands that have been forgotten through the years or overlooked for whatever reason.
Thank you again and please keep up the good work.
Honour&Blood is my all time favorite.I remember the day i buy the vinyl.Metal till the grave
RIP Algy Ward!
Tank is one of my favorite band😃👍
Another excellent choice. Thanks for doing these.
Tank was so good. My older cousin got me into them when I was maybe 6 or 7. I still listen to them to this day. Awesome band. They definitely don’t get the recognition they deserve. Great video!
I just keep hearing Gene Simmons singing on the early stuff. Can't get it out of my head. 🤟🤘🤟🤘
Really? I heard Ted Nugent
Tank, man these have been kicking ass for decades! They always had that dirty, rough and tumble look and sound to them that is exactly how they should be.
Love this band!! You should cover Accept, Saxon, Celtic Frost, Anvil, Annihlator, or Exciter.
Exciter would be interesting.
Thank you for the great work man! This is metal history gold, always looking forward to your videos 🤘
That’s what dreams are made of is a great song.
Like most people my age, the NWOBHM bands was my jumping off point in my love of rock and metal. Sadly, because so many of these bands never made it past the demo stage, the only thing most of us had were cassette tapes doing the rounds at school and they were usually a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy x10, but we didn’t mind because we knew that under all that sound deterioration there was something so good. I remember Tank from those school days, thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Thank you for another awesome Metal History Documentary.Love all your videos!! 🤘👌🤘
Hi from New Zealand..I have all tanks albums..had to get them 2nd hand over the years..I really like them..if the lead singer had left its not tank..his voice is really unique..I think you do a great job with your channel mate..very nice work..looking forward to the next band..😊
Another excellent choice and another band I absolutely dislike. It's Now, one would ask "why'd you stayed for the whole 45' minutes if you dislike them?" The answer is simple. To find out if I've misjudged them, or if in the end of the video I feel that I was right. That's the beauty of Metal School. You either learn of a band you didn't know, reassess your point of view, or confirm your own feelings. This is what makes these videos even better! Thank you for another excellent effort! No matter what my opinion is R.I.P. Algy Ward. Metal is family, not division.
Haha, couldn’t agree more. Everyones tastes are different and one of the great things about heavy metal is the variety. Glad you still dig the video! I’m sure I’ll hit on one we both agree on soon 😊🤘🏻
I think they were ignored or polarizing. Filth came out when punks were slooooowly easing into admitting they appreciate Motorhead but Tank never got the juice to be appreciated by punk fans and they were too sloppy for a lot of metalheads.
The original Tank is one of the greatest bands of all time! PURE ROCK 'N' ROLL POWER! Thanks for the awesome video, HAMMER ON!!!
Very Cool!
The bassist/lead singer is like a metal Greg Lake. lol
Never heard of them and very surprised. I had access to several imports back in the day.
Thanks!
So sick! What a great addition to the Metal School archive! I've been waiting for a new MS video, and this does not disappoint!
RIP Algy... the only Tank in my world.
Huge Algy Ward era TANK fan here. It's extremely difficult (and expensive) to find theirs albums in Uruguay. Only own a Spanish single from their first album and a T-Shirt. Learned some songs with my bass while fighting cancer some years ago. Still working to transcribe Hammer On since the lyrics aren't anywhere. Greetings from South America!
I always loved the Sodom version of "Don't Walk Away" on their Agent Orange album. In general, Tank to me was one of those good not great bands of their time. But I do find it strange that two non original members who showed up relatively late in the early run of albums chose to use that name decades later. It's not like Tank is a top brand. Tucker and Evans really should have had their own band name and truly owned the project, not have some weird foot in the past.
I thought was stupid beyond just being a headscratcher. Algy IS/WAS Tank. Makes zero sense, agree.
I really like their first five albums, though I lost track of them after that. "Filth Hounds..." is my favorite, but "Honour & Blood" is right behind it, with only the cover of the Aretha Franklin song dragging it down for me. Great song, I just don't need to hear Tank (or Little Caesar) doing it. Thanks for this fun, nostalgic video!
Thank you very much, I waited so long for this one! Great work again!
My favorites are the first two albums.
RIP Algy.
Great video. What an underrated band! 🤘
Please make a video about fates warning
I’m old enough to have seen these guys with Motörhead + bought that first EP! Loved it!
Same here. I saw Tank with Motörhead in Finland in 1981. Great show from both bands.
A New Wave of British Heavy Metal classic!
LOVE Tank..R.I.P Algy. I was in the Tank fan club in 1982 (true)
Wow, this awesome feature...turned my head around! 😇😎
Thank you Metal School for introducing me to some awesome bands like this who until today I've never heard of keep it up
TURN YOUR HEAD AROUND
This is a long time ago, dang. I love this show, also James Hetfield loved this band.
Who cares what Hetfield likes?
Algy Ward baby! Tank sounded like early Maiden and Motörhead. Just awesome!
Fantastic band
This my favorite type of music and my favorite era. Life is a battle, and it's the best subject for Rock n Roll. Just as good as love is, anyway.
This Means War is a kickass album. Times were pretty rough in the early 80's, which is why it's perfect for life today.
Honor and blood and the self titled from 87, had them on cassette, they lived in my glovebox, great for cruising around… and getting stoned
Thanks for the great video. How had I never heard of this awesome band before!
Tank are one of the most badass metal bands I heard, dig all their albums especially their Debut & This Means War. I wish these types of bands got more attention instead of crap like Def Leppard (yeah I said it), and also the song Honour and Blood has one of the best riffs ever 🤟.
Def Leppard crap!? Them fighting words Iron Maiden fanboy, come back to me once Brucie boy fires his God awful producer and makes a decent album for a change in the last 20+ years 😉
@@americancaesar4715Def Leopard’s first 2 albums are the only ones worthy to listen to.
After that, it’s just mainstream rock on par with the LA cockrock bands of the time.
Maiden definitely have forgotten how to make a good album. Brave New World was awesome and everything since sucks.
@@DisciplineOfSteel2 Despite that, I cannot deny Def Leppard's work ethic. I mean Rick Allen only has one arm and is still killing it to this day, if that's not dedication I don't know what is.
@@jaysonraphaelmurdock8812 *Cue Senjutsu* and countless 10+ minute filler 😂
love the way you do your videos, always waiting for the next one!
been waiting for a Tank video for a while hehe, great documentary of one of most underrated bands.
Another great video. Thank you very much for doing this. I will be checking these guys out for sure :-D
Tank = quality content
Thank you - yet ANOTHER band I’ve heard of but never actually listened to. I’m going to start my journey at War Machine since I really like what I heard from the video far and possess zero ties to their original sound, then work my way around to their initial single.
Hell yeah Tank!!!
The metal school is really cool, I'm a 57-year-old metal fan and I enjoy it.
RIP Algy. ❤
Man thank you for posting this. I love your videos. I had a hard day at work and when I saw you put out a new video my day got more relaxed. Thank you.
Glad I could help! 🤘🏻
Freaking great band🎸💥💪
This channel rules!
Killer band , great and fair review of them .
Personally find This means war and Honour & Blood their strongest hours.
“If a bullet don’t get ya then the dysentery will!”
its a good day when metal school uploads 🤘
RIP algy ward!!!
Rest in power, Algy.
I got my tickets for Hells Hero 6
TANK is set to be playing an old school set at that festival
I can't wait to see them live in March 2024
Tank is a very good band
Honor and blood came out when I was 13. Blew me away.
That 87’ s/t album is probably my favorite Tank album. It is super catchy and is all killer no filler imo. Lost was for them what Out in the Cold was for Judas Priest on Turbo and It fell from the sky definitely had a killer hook for the chorus part. Very underrated album! It’s not too different than what Angel Witch or Tokyo Blade might have been doing around that same time also underrated albums from that era imo.
I will get all of Tank albums. 😀👍🎸🤘
Glad i stumbled onto this! Great band!
Fucking love TANK. Still have the first 4 lps on my permanent playlist
Nice! Always a welcome surprise here.🤙
best channel on YT. can't get enough
❤️🤘🏻
Wow, Tank. Takes me back. To better times
YEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!! TANK!!!\m/ I've been WAITING for this Metal School episode. Finally got the wish lol. Filth Hounds, This Means War and Honour and Blood are some of the best albums EVER!!! Thanks for this man, R.I.P. Algy Ward.
Honour and Blood is my favorite. Great record.
Reign Of Thunder! RIP Algy Ward , i didn't know about his passing until now..
My favorite NWOBHM band!
Awww a band I've had on the list for quite sometime.
Finally,..A band that I have never heard of,
......thank you brother man!!!
When you're a young kid and you get an allowance or from your first job,.. there's not a lot of money to go around, so I always seen this album sitting on the shelf at the record stores but couldn't buy it because I was buying other bands. Now I regret it. Definitely going to add them to my collection now!
One of my all time favorite bands!
Already gave it a like cuz I know it's going to be a great video as usual! Keep it up man.
Would be cool to see the "Tygers of Pan Tang" next. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Another great vid, another band I've heard of but never actually heard
Tank supported Motorhead and in my opinion they were Motorhead's equal. 'Filth Hounds of Hades' was a absolute classic in the vein of Motorhead( even to the point that the lead vocalist and bass players of both bands had names ending in Y and they had both played with the Damned).
Nice! Love Tank!!!
Great video covering this awesome band. Next video please about Vengeance(Netherlands)
Loved them! 🤘Honour and Blood was first one that I've heard from them
Great commentary. I agree with all your takes.
Tank is Awesome!!!! Metal School needs do a video on Cyclone Temple
Great to see all this love for Tank in the comments.
I saw then in 1982, opening for Diamond Head. They did not go down well at all...😬
They were a late replacement for Twisted Sister, who were supposed to be the tour openers.
Wow, that is quite the switch from Twisted Sister! Although Tank still seems like a decent fit with Diamond Head. But I guess TS were already kinda legends by then.
Kerrang absolutely decimated their live shows (probably because the shows were not good, which is as shame).
