    I just had my free session and actually felt more energized when I finished the class than when I started. I wish I could have gone another hour. I have a low resting heart rate but, using the elliptical trainer, I hit the green zone fairly quickly and was able to hit and remain in the orange zone for 14 minutes. The trainer was great and was able to modify the resistance exercises for me, since I have bad knees from both ballet and martial arts. Overall, I got a great workout and am looking forward to my next one. I don't know if their theory about the 'afterburn' is accurate (or just a marketing strategy) but, in my opinion, what matters is just getting in there and exercising, staying motivated, not getting bored, and not plateauing. The set up of the classes is designed to address all these factors because the trainer is built into the price (not an extra add-on like other gyms), the classes are fun and diversified, they provide a full body workout that addresses strength and endurance, and the price is competitive (and no annual contract - it's pay-as-you-go). So, 'after burn' or not, I think Orange Theory has a good set up to get people fit and in shape. But, ultimately, what you get out of it is what you put into it.

    I have to agree with you on the treadmill being comfortable. I bought one of their treads used from an OTF that was changing out their equipment. I absolutely love it and am now so spoiled. I recently used a tread in a hotel fitness center while I was traveling and it was so stiff and horrible. Btw...I’ve never taken a OTF class as the nearest studio is about 50 miles from my home. I hope that someday they release an integrated app like Peloton did and we can do the workouts in our home.

    I agree it can be really expensive for students or people who don't have a full time job. I almost feel like they should offer a discounted student rate to get people into Orange Theory and then they could upgrade to the full price membership once they get a full time job.

    I absolutely love my Orange Theory Fitness. I can’t speak for other locations, but at our studio we’re pretty much like family. My coaches are excellent at getting to know you & your limits. They always find a way to modify something you may have either a difficult time with or physical limitations.
    Our members also challenge each other & strive to see each other succeed. I’m not the strongest runner in the world, but I remember some of my highlight moments all of my bench marks have come from running next to our coaches & motivation from the most elite members.
    I know I feed off of others emotions & the positive vibes are extremely contagious. One particular day I felt motivated to keep up with one of the coaches on the treadmill. It was the first time I hit a 10mph all out & it was empowering...only to look at her killing it at 12mph, but she noticed things like that & when you truly giving it everything you’ve got truly are excited for you.
    We have several photos when members & coaches with boards noting new accomplishments from weight lost, a new speed on the treadmills or incline increases for the power walkers, faster times on the rowers, & when you begin to grab the heavier dumbbells. Your success is their success.
    For anyone thinking of going; the first class is free so you’ve got nothing to lose but some calories. If it’s not for you, then you have it a shot.

    whats the difference between 3group and orange60?

    • @shannonjohnson2876
      @shannonjohnson2876 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically the 3g means that all three areas (treadmill, row & weight room) are all going at the same time. With the 3G you’ll likely get 20 minutes each. With a 60 class you’re more likely to get 30 minutes on the tread and a good mix of row & weight training.

    I have a question about those who are already tried it out for long time and follow a diet. I just joined to OTF today and I'm very excited, but this is my question. Since this is a high intensity workout, is it good for those who are doing keto diet? because Im actually doing it and getting good results but I need to workout too. Ive heard and idk if this is true but those who are under keto diet, they are not supposed to do certain workout. If anyone knows the answer or perhaps follow this diet, I will really appreciate your answers.

    • @FittyFreckles
      @FittyFreckles  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Karina Vicuna I don’t have the answer to this but I recommend doing a more paleo diet with some processed carbs as treats! I’m excited for you that you just joined!! There are so many diet options but I truly believe you can eat a balanced diet with OTF and see results(:

    Yeah.....I just took the first free class And I liked it But that shits way too expensive I’m still almost 400 pounds That was incredibly hard it’s been an hour and my heart rate is still over 100 And even then I didn’t have even 1 minute in the orange

    • @johnshoulders2221
      @johnshoulders2221 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      chyndb its expensive compared to other gyms but its worth the money. I've been going for 3 weeks now and I've lost weight, increased my energy and built up muscle. I'm a 56 yrs old male with 30-35 pounds over weight. My desk job and stress had ruined my physical health. Each session is about six dollars for me which is worth the money and you can cancel anytime.

    How do these guys determine the heart rate you want to be in? 220 - (age)? That is so general as to be laughable. You can generally determine HR this way, but it is almost too wide to determine your actual AT. You need a bloodtest for that. Also, if you never did HIIT in the past, this will so overwhelm you. Good luck with that. Also, if you think you are gonna burn calories at the *same rate* for the next 36 hour you are deluded. Your calorie burn stays escalated, but drops dramatically after an hour. At hour 24, it is like 3% over base rate. 36 hours? Less than 1%. So small you will never notice. That is sort of misleading.
    I admit that I have never been in one, and I will try one out in my town. But, like most Fitness Industry related enterprises, there is a lot bullshit in there. Better than Planet Fitness, tho. But that's a low bar to get over.

      I've belonged to lots of gyms in the past, this is the first time I actually feel in control of my body and my fitness level. Been there just over a year, down 20 pounds of fat and building muscle, feeling better than I have in decades. Yes the HIIT is challenging, but I am 51 so if I can do it you can too!

    • @endcensorship874
      @endcensorship874 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do and check it out. Basically, my opinion has not changed. If anything, I view them less favorably. I visited, talked to one of the "coaches," and discussed HIIT. Basically, I came back to my two points: measuring HR is an inexact science without a blood test, and doing 30-45 min of HIIT is not going to "burn fat" for the next 36 hours. He insisted that was true, but other than Orange Theory saying it, you will not find supporting information.
      I really think Orange Theory is Planet Fitness for the rich. Just my opinion.

    • @mrmrlee
      @mrmrlee 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      During my first few months of Orangetheory I experienced night sweats, I would wake up soaked in sweat (very uncomfortable!), and I actually would get hot flashes during the day (I'm a guy, so it was weird). I discovered that my thyroid was adjusting it's behavior to burn more fuel more efficiently as a result of my intense exercising. This is a recognized phenomenon in the fitness community. So whether or not you feel this is EPOC or not, I had a genuine personal experience with actual physiological changes to my body that can't be denied. Not to mention the weight loss and increase in muscle mass.

    • @UrbanArtifact
      @UrbanArtifact 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rob you make a compelling argument however I have one disagreement. I agree with your MaxHR complaint. Honestly 220-age is a little too ballparky of a figure. 206.9-(0.67xage) is more accurate. I also agree that it's more guess work than anything, attempting to get yourself to a target HR. What we should really do, is target heart rate reserve. 70% HRR is a lot easier to plan for than it's equivalent measurement of 85% HRMax. That's what we use in exercise testing at least. What I disagree with is bloodwork analysis for HRMax. It's an expensive procedure and not really needed unless in phase three of a cardiac rehabilitation program. In healthy adults with low PARq risk factors, I believe the 206.9-(0.67xage) formula will suffice.
