I always ask my client prior to their appointment what they want. I also tell that I can do something similar to whatever, because I’m not the original artist. So I’ll put my own spin on the art. Eight years later I’ve never had anyone disappointed. Awesome subject!! Love you guys!!
What about new nail tech’s instagram pages being compared to veteran nail techs? I’ve just graduated nail school and passed boards and clients think I should be doing nails like the 10yr tech. I preface each appointment with “I’m new” and “I take my time.” Still there’s a mental expectation that my nails have to be as good, if not better than the girl whose been doing them for much much longer. Or comparable to the amazing Instagram pages all over the web. How can I compete with that? I’m taking classes and doing my best to improve, but it takes time like Tracie has said before, so how can I turn heads with my nube nails 💅🏾 😩🤷🏾♀️🤦🏽♀️?
The first thing you need to remember is that there's always going to be competition and there's always someone who you think does a better job. However, the only real competition is against yourself. Have the confidence to keep posting and keep learning. As you continue to learn and practice, your skills will get better. You'll start to look back at your first posts and realize how far you've progressed! Doing exactly what you are doing and explaining to your clients that you are still new is the best thing you can do. It's important to be up front and honest with them and let them choose if they want to come to you. If they don't, that's ok! You will build the clientele that respects the work you do and how you take care of them. Something else to remember is that we are our own worst critics! When you post pics, you are probably being overly critical or maybe you don't even post a pic because you see a tiny flaw. Most of the time clients don't even notice the things we do! Just keep posting, keep learning and pretty soon the confidence will be there!
If you don't tell your customer you can't do it and you end up disappointing them... you're going to get dragged on social media on one of those posts. What I wanted/ What I got. And nobody wants that. Just be honest with your communication.
I am really up front with my technical challenges! I am determined to succeed at it but I will tell ya when I'm not 100% and offer my version or offer to try to learn. I did flames on practice nails for over a week, all day every day to finally accomplish it
I opened an instagram page only because Habib told me to send him a photo from my first dimensional nail. But i didn't know how to do it so my sister helped me and she accidentally send the photo to some other people I knew!!! I was so embarrassed!!! Yes I am 42 and I am very shy with all these pictures and the social media
I am super open with my clients! If I can’t do it I will tell them. I also have my clients give me request before appointment. I want to be able to practice and have a sample ready for them to see when they arrive for the appointment. I have them all well trained! Time is a huge factor, color schemes, I’m detail oriented so I need to know ahead that’s it!
Could you believe I sent this to some of my clients on ig and one felt as if I sent her something wrong😑 She never gave me any details either but they’re nothing wrong at all here😍
Would you ever do an online course or biz talk on nail photography 101? Crop and rotate are the most underutilized edits that make a HUGE difference. The things you see in the background of these pics some times 😂🤦🏻♀️ also, there are a lot of bad “habits” that continue cause someone sees someone else doing it.
Nowadays it's really easy to have two numbers going to one phone. I'm a pro artist and run a business. Having a business number is absolutely necessary, but I put it on do not disturb after business hours. As for being able to a certain technique it's SO important to be honest about one's abilities! At House Of Borgia we specialize in freehand, detailed painting and other detail work and do our own original designs or our own spin on designs, but if ever something came along we weren't familiar with we would be honest up front. It's unfair and unprofessional to do otherwise and breaks trust. I've seen people fib and have terrible results with both hair and nails. I've had hair colorists do that to me and twice my hair was *destroyed* by colorists swearing they were proficient at silvery white platinum hair (considered the most difficult color to properly achieve without damage.) Thankfully I'm a scientist as well as an artist and switched to doing my own custom mix and they saved me a ton in money and damage in the long run, but I could have done without having to grow out the damage TWICE and having crap hair on my birthday the first time. It's like anything you pay for that you trust in a professional to do, but it's even worse when it's something on your body that looks like hell or (god forbid) gets damaged as it's about as personal as you can get. I've been seeing a lot of tech's and press on creators claiming that they can do techniques and designs to their clients and then showing up in Facebook groups with zero idea how. I just think that's unfair to clients.

Hi YN can you guys do a video of how much employees get paid how much should a person get charged for their booth, how does the financial part of the nail salon work
I'm my only client. I give myself what I want, or as close as I can get it.
I always ask my client prior to their appointment what they want. I also tell that I can do something similar to whatever, because I’m not the original artist. So I’ll put my own spin on the art. Eight years later I’ve never had anyone disappointed. Awesome subject!! Love you guys!!
I love what you said about being honest if you're not confident about something, think I'm gonna do that to ease the pressure off myself.
I love y'all videos. I'm a beginner and you all do a great job explaining things and showing up close videos from all angles.
Thank you for helping people to know how to handle these things.

Thanks you two
Also ppl put all kind of filters on their pics.
For me, if I want something fancy. I usually show the picture and asked if they can do it. I usually go by their response.

Maybe she felt like you were saying something without saying something?
I think it's very very important to always be practicing Instagram nails on press ons! Something popular? Replicate that set on your spare time!

I feel like u should blog about nail techs that have to desk with customers who dip out on them and don't pay.... how to prevent that from happening
