Yeah I'm looking to make sure I can identify house sparrows for certain
before I begin trapping and disposing of them.

Thank you for the fine video. We’re new to birding and are just starting the process of Bluebird and Purple Martin landlording. We have a few Bluebirds nesting, and a few Tree Swallows that are nesting in our Purple Martin house. It looks like we have to wait till next year for Martins. We have Song Sparrows also, so thanks again for the clear instructions on how to identify the House Sparrows.

I'll reiterate a year old comment from Rebecca. Best video I've seen on identifying and seperating these two birds.
    Thanks .

Yeah I want to make sure I can identify house sparrows before
I begin trapping them. I don't want to be killing some other type
of bird species that looks similar.

I notice the house sparrow has a shorter chunkier beak - more like a cardinal's beak than the longer beak of a wren.
I also notice that the bluejays are NOT bullies at the feeder (at least for me). I have never seen it! But they are loud and defensive when a predator is around!

I feed bluejays peanuts that are still in their shell
at a separate platform feeder so they don't have to
fight off other types of birds. Cardinals will sometimes
take peanuts in their shell too.

I liked see the slow motion shots of the birds. Did you use an outdoor wildlife camera? Thanks for the great video.

Thanks! You just saved a good native sparrow by posting the video. I'm going to try and lower the number I have but the one I looked at was not a bad sparrow.....thanks

good video man. i was thinking of doing one of these vids but you did a great job. a tip though is that you should include commonly mistaken birds that re mistoke for femle house sparrows.

I despise house sparrows... the vile cretins. They overcrowded my feeders to the point I had to stop feeding birds.

I wish I could get rid of these birds. I’m overwhelmed by them. What are the guaranteed seed they will jot eat? Actually is there a seed finches and sparrows won’t eat?

They have very characteristic body shape and a long pointy curved beak. Their tail and their beak almost look identical so if you see them from far you might confuse one for the other. They use their beaks like trashers. It's a very cute and beautiful bird like many.

I do not like House Sparrows. They killed the momma Eastern Bluebied and her babies in the nest.
