    Excellent video, incredibly stupid design. Had to do this on 2 CF390 Samsungs. The first worked fine. The second now has a 4" band of dead pixels from top to bottom in the right hand side. I've bought a total of 4 Samsung monitors. From now on I'm going with another brand. I can't afford to pay double or triple price for a monitor due to ridiculous design.

    For everyone out there, you don't really need to take out the last part, I removed the base because I bought a monitor stand and the last part can be left alone. It seems like there's no way to screw in the metal part of the monitor stand with the old part in the way, but if you slide the part in an upwards motion you'll have enough space to do it. Also thanks for the tutorial!

      I just want to give my two cents on this. While you definitely CAN leave the part and use almost any monitor stand with it on, if you'd like to use any sort of swivel/tilt mount you would lose some of the tilt function because that part gets in the way (learned the hard way).

    • @calijguyman
      @calijguyman 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Mlefebre and that's my problem...this is the stupidest design EVER! I think I'm just going to use a hack saw...

  • @JosephByrne
    @JosephByrne ปีที่แล้ว +3

    2:02 you will probably butcher the slat. But that's OK. You only need to pry it apart enough to slide a spludger (or guitar pick / credit card) in the gap and work that to the right until you hear a click. After that you can carefully pry the rest apart using your hands and the spludger. Don't worry if you butcher the first gap, it seems unavoidable. What a fantastic video. I needed to remove the bracket to fit a Herman Miller monitor arm. The Herman Miller bracket was too large so this had to go. I'm so pleased I was able to do it with this expert guidance and the only damage was on that first gap. This video reminds me of what TH-cam used to be. Thanks from London. Right here goes monitor #2.
    Update: I didn't butcher the plastic on the second one. The secret is to use the correct size screwdriver. If it is just right the plastic will come apart without damage. Too small and it will just damage the plastic. If that does happen it's not a disaster though. Just use the gap created to start prying.

    This is a great video. Thank you. I never would have figured this out on my own.
    That said, this is a crazy design. Samsung apparently couldn't imagine that someone would want to remove the stand to mount the monitor, either on the wall or on a robot arm? Nuts...
    Update: Sadly, my monitor (P2350) isn't this design. 😑

    The reason I want to take the stand off is to be able to use a VESA mount, but I can see the little plastic part around where the stand used to sit sticks out a bit. Do you know if this would be an issue for VESA mounts that have 75mm as well as 100mm?
    Very detailed video too thanks.

    Hi Michael! I followed the steps to remove the stand, but when I turned my monitor on again, there was a black line in the middle. Does this mean I damaged something inside in the process of removing the stand? Is this something fixable? Please let me know.

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching & we appreciate you reaching out to us. Something may be loose inside. A common cause is the ribbon wiring. If everything is properly secured, the internal screen may be damaged.

    • @OlivierTravers
      @OlivierTravers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously, fuck this design, I have a black line too :( Crossing my fingers that it's loose wiring. Edit, looks like I tore into one of the flimsy semi-transparent connectors at the base of the monitor, what a waste of time and money.
