In the USA, I became a SAAB fan as a kid building beautiful models of Draken and Viggen. Later, I drove Saab Turbo cars for almost 30 years and loved them. Today I miss the brand, and the Swedish guy who used to run Tor's Saab in Lompoc, California. Many dealers are like visiting the dentist but Tor's was always fun! 🇸🇪
Hey I loved the Viggen as a kid in Australia. It was an awesome moment finding operational vids of them on YT in recent years. Those 3 crown insignia are a very early memory. I didn't understand just how crazy their performance was and how they could bang them down and jump off the ground on highways and even gravel. I always knew the cars were good, if strange looking, but it wasn't fun learning that GM killed SAAB like they killed our Holden via waste and a lack of understanding.

SAAB produced some of the best fighters in the west, with budgets a lot smaller than others. These were intelligent people working thogether, their only problem was the sandbagging from the american and european goverments. ( I'm an ex USAF mechanic)
There's a story (unconfirmed) about an F22 test pilot who came over and flew one of the late models. He asked about a function and the swedish pilot said it's the link system. -What does it do? -It lets the pilot use other planes or ships arsenal to engage targets. The american responded that that's what they were working on for the F22. -When was this implemented he asked. In the -80ties the swedish pilot answered...

MIG 23 och flera Amerikanska plan hade dessa skivor innan öppningen. Lär handla om luftströmning i extrema farter. SAAB kunde mycket väl ha fått "patentet" från USA. Viggen fick en hel del hemligaheter från jenkarna via ytterst hemliga försvarsavtal. Detta gjorde bl a att Viggen inte kunde exporteras till bl a Indien som gärna ville köpa.
Ärligt talat undrar jag om han inte slog i backen lite grand, kan ju även vara filmat från en vinkel så att det ser närmare ut hur som helst så är det ändå en imponerande start.
