Nice list, Bill. Thanks for the effort. If it may help anyone, here are those he mentioned: - Jameson Irish Whiskey - Tullamore D.E.W. - Powers Gold Label - The Sexton - Bushmill's Black Bush - Teeling Whiskey Small Batch - Jameson Black Barrel - Clontarf 1014 - Green Spot - RedBreast 12
Oh, and since you asked us, my first Irish Whiskey was the Sexton, in fact. Got it on a recent 2 for $30 deal at a local store. Then went for the RedBreast 12, on recommendation from Rex @ TWV as his fave Irish, IIRC. They are indeed different in their own ways from the thirty-some Scotch, American, and Canadian pours I've tried. Looking to do Green Spot as my next Irish. Keep up the great work.
My first was Bushmills white label...very tasty for a small price. Since this is five years later...here is an update on the prices in 2023 (at least in Chicagoland): Jameson ---> $27 Tullamore D E W ---> $24 Powers Gold Label ---> $32 The Sexton ---> $33 Bushmill's Black ---> $35 Teeling Whiskey Small Batch ---> $33 Jameson Black Barrel ---> $40 Clontarf 1014 ---> not available Green Spot ---> $70 Red Breast 12 ---> $72 One I would recommend is Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Single Grain: $30...has a bourbon and sherry cask finish...amazing taste at a low price point.
Oh, wow! I'm not a bourbon expert, but I know my Irish whiskeys. Jameson's was the obvious starter, but I was waiting for my two favourites - and sure enough, you put them up last - Green Spot and Redbreast. Excellent! Well done. I'm getting addicted to your channel here!
My second ever bottle of whisky (not including entry level blends) was a bushmills 10 years old. I haven't had it in ages, I don't really remember it all that well, but i remember really enjoying it.
Nickolas Aaron Me too! The tip of the upper peninsula✊ We're at a dead end up here... Red Breast 12 at the low end is $87-$90 a fifth... if you can find it!
I new liquor store opened next to my house and had a 10% opening discount. I got the Redbreast 12 because I remembered this video. This stuff is amazing! Great recommendation!!
I am a newbie to Irish Whiskey. I've had Jameson and maybe one other. I just picked Kilbeggan at random and I am really enjoying it. I find it smooth and easy to drink.
My introduction was Bushmills back in the ‘70’s when I was backpacking. Bushmills is still my hiking and walking whiskey. Now I keep an assortment of various Irish whiskeys on hand, from Kilbeggan through Yellow Spot.
...I started with Bushmills then moved to Jameson but recently discovered the Single Pot Stills. Now my all time favorite whiskey. Have tried Redbreast 12, Redbreast 15, Greenspot, Powers John Lane and Powers Three Swallow. I like the Three Swallow the best followed by Redbreast 12.
I started out with Jameson like most Americans I believe. I find Irish Whiskey to be more approachable than Bourbon. I've only ever had White Label and Black barrel, but I hope to try Gold Label, 18 year and move into Red Breast.
I love Irish Whiskey. I started with Jameson, which I still find tasty. My favorite these days is Redbreast 12 and the Redbreast 12 Cask Strength. I am not sure if it is because I am in Iowa, we have the 7th highest State liquor taxes, or what but Redbreast here is $60. The cask strength is $85.
Thanks for the review. From what I've already tried, I most like the Bushmills black bush. And I think there's another Irish whiskey worth mentioning. This is Kilbeggan. Kilbeggan is a double distilled Irish whiskey. It has a very sweet, honey aroma.
Jameson Caskmates IPA was my first Irish Whiskey. Will try Bushmills Black Bush and Powers Gold Label this St Paddy's Day. Love your videos! And your recommendations.
I´m a big fan of Irish Whiskey, but my favorite is "Millars Special Reserve" wich is discontinued for some reason. I´ve only got 1 one bottle left of it, and I won´t open it until I´ll get a very good reason. But I can gladly recommend "Powers". Very smooth and tasteful.
Great videos! My wife and I began our Irish whiskey journey after our first trip to Ireland with West Cork 10 year, which was fantastic - it awakened our curiosity to try more whiskeys. We then discovered Red Breast Lustau edition on our second trip to Ireland. That one blew our minds with its sweet complexity: spicy and fruity with a creamy finish. Finally, after moving to Ireland, we discovered Red Breast 12 Year, which we really enjoyed. It’s a bit “sharper” than the Lustau edition. When we ran out of Red Breast, we came across West Cork DHA Chasca (meaning dual cask) at our local grocery store. What a great find! It’s not as expensive as Red Breast, but it’s up there in taste. It’s a single malt whiskey matured in Bodega Sherry casks, and finished in doubled charred Bourbon casks. It actually has similar tasting notes as the Red Breast Lustau, but they’re both unique but smooth to drink. I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos, and learning about Irish whiskeys!
Black Bush is amazing, it's very smooth and I love it. I am new to whiskey (knowledge wise, i've drank a ton lol), so did not know it has sherry in it. Hence - I will try for the Macallan you suggested in the Scotch guide.
I'm starting with Irish Whiskey now. I lean towards bourbon but a friend keeps pushing Irish on me. I enjoyed the redbreast 12 he offered and now I'm looking to expand. Your list should be a great start. Thanks!
Awesome! Irish whiskey can have a tendency to be similar but yellow spot, green spot, slane, and a few more are great ones to hit if you decide to expand to more expensive
Good review. When I turned 21, I got a bartending job to pay my way through school. Until then, I drank a lot of beer, apple wine and blackberry brandy. After my first shift, I sat down at the bar and another bartender bought me a shot of Bushmill's on the rocks. I had no experience with whiskey at that point, so I was a bit leery. but I took a sip. It was so much better than i thought it could be, and that was my intro to the world of whiskey. My Irish of choice these days is Jameson Black Barrel, but I will never forget my first torrid love affair with Old Bush!
Go to's for me are Jameson, Bushmills, and Tullamore D.E.W. Some of my favorites include Red Breast 12, Teeling, Green Spot, Tyrconnell, The Quiet Man, Sexton, and Jameson black.
I started with Jameson but I found myself a big Irish whiskey fan and a whiskey fan in general and basically all your recommendations are the same as mine
I also started with pretty much most of the ones you introduced (except for the Sexton). Having moved on to the single malt and pure pot still Irish whiskies like REDBREAST 12 CASK STRENGTH, YELLOW SPOT, POWERS JOHN'S LANE and BUSHMILLS 16, I still keep a bottle or two of Black Bush and Jameson Black Barrel around.
I just started drinking whiskey and started with Tullamore DEW. I started out with ice initially due to percieved nastiness of the alcohol until a wise man told me to man up and drink it straight. I've just recently started noticing the nose and flavors and finisher of Tullamore
lol at the prices "getting high at $40". I've been a single malt scotch lady for a while, so $40 sounds amazing to me! Prices might have to do with states and taxes. I live in CA, my in-laws in WA. Whenever they visit they hit the liquor section at Costco cause it's half the price. So maybe that's what's throwing prices off?
I enjoy the lowest level of Evan Williams, black label @ 43% alcohol. Very easy to enjoy. For Irish whiskey, I have enjoyed Black Bush from Bushmill, and have tried the white label and red label. Black Bush is mostly a single malt with a little blended added. I'm learning as I go. I have tried a few others, but can't really comment further at this point.
As an Irishman the best Irish whiskeys on a budget I believe in this order are Powers John Lane, Redbreast 12, greenspot / yellowspot, bushmills 16, bushmills black bush, Jameson black barrel! Clonakilty Double cask. I keep a bottle of all of those open most years. If you want to treat yourself buy a Midelton Very Rare Barry Crockett, Irishman 17, Jameson 18, Teeling 18, or redbreast 21.
My first Irish was Jameson, then Tullamore Dew and Bushmills. I'm currently sitting with some Paddy, which I find quite easily drinkable and smooth in its profile.
If you can get Green Spot for $40 in the US then that's a great price and so similarly Powers John Lane should be on the list. It's roughly the same price as Green Spot in Ireland It's a shame Whiskey prices are soaring (in Ireland at least) as the higher-end Whiskeys are now becoming out of the grasp for causal drinkers. Bog standard Middleton Very Rare has gone from €120 to €165+. The look on peoples faces when they first go from Jameson to trying say Jameson 18 or a Barry Crokett is always fun - "oh, that's what Whiskey is meant to taste like". Great list too. I also like Bushmills 10 in that 'going beyond beginner' category.
Jameson is my go to price wise. Green Spot whenever I can find a place that serves it and Yellow Spot is my favorite...only found it a couple times. Redbreast is nice...a friend keeps it in stock
I started with the Kirkland signature Irish whiskey I wasn’t impressed maybe from the reviews but I feel like it had too much peat and an alcohol burn to it. I returned it and bought a bottle ofJameson and I’m impressed. I want to purchase a bottle ofRedbreast 12 next
Well those would certainly be in thr running! But this video is made to help people start off with cheaper options that are easy to sip. I'd have to think on that... but Redbreast CS would definitely be in there
I see this is a couple years old, though Ive just found your channel. I started my Irish whiskey tastes with Old Bushmills over 40 years back when mostly Jamesons would be only Irish choice on my area and Ive never cared for it (at all!).Bushmills has always offered some nice options. After dinner Irish coffee was imho the perfect choice for we early risers. If a mixologist knows Bushmills, even 40 years back quite popular cocktails like a B52 that I see has endured. I didnt stop at Old Bushmills , yet agree whole heartedly Bush’s Black is perfect intro.
Redbreast 12 in russia costs about 130-170$(Avg month salary 300-600$). So for us it's a kind of crazy elite thing for which you should save half of the year.
I used to drink Jameson, but it seems dull and boring now. I only use it now when I make hot whiskey toddies when my wife or myself are down with a nasty sinus infection or cold. Bushmills has never let me down and I still like it a lot better than Jameson. I once heard someone say “Jameson was a Scotchman, so what in the Hell did he know about IRISH whiskey?” I think that’s an overly harsh view to take, but I do take their point. For me, it’s how the whiskey tastes that matters. I don’t drink gallons of whiskey ,nor do I drink them quickly, so I can well afford to buy most of the good ones out there. Redbreast is a newer whiskey for me and I definitely like it. Keep it simple: Know what you like, like what you (usually)drink, but never be afraid to TRY something else!
Hold one you used to drink Jameson? Which one? That’s like saying I used to drink wine. Jameson does a cracking 18 bow street for example which is amazing. The black barrel version is nice. Jameson gold is the smoothest Irish whisky you’ll drink. Midelton very rare is a Jameson whisky! As is green spot, yellow spot, redbreast amongst others
I value your beginner list. I can’t believe I missed this one. Jameson and Tullamore are the only ones I’ve tried because I can’t stay away from bourbon 😅
I kinda like the west cork stuff, port cask finish is my favourite of em. I do know, that its not some miracle of whiskey world, but I just like it.... And yeah, you cant go wrong with redbreast 12..
My first whiskey was a Tullamore dew, I hated it as it burnt my whole mouth away. After trying some more whiskeys I finally got back to the Tullamore Dew, albeit with some doubts, and it turns out to not be as bad at all really.
I started with writers tears. Surprised it wasn't on your list. Delicious stuff. Powers 12 is also really nice. Redbreast 12 is my favourite followed closely by green spot chateau Leoville Barton.
Your prices were cheaper than mine! I like your" to the point presentation". Kilbeggan is one whiskey to talk . Im going to try sexton tomorrow. Good Job!
Great list of Irish whiskey👍👍 My favorite Irish distillery is West cork, they have both age statement and NAS whiskey at affordable prices and don't get as much attention as they deserve.
Great video! I've been wanting to get into whiskey but, as I know nothing about it, didn't know where to start. Based on this list, I tried Tullamore Dew (both a neat sip and in an Irish coffee) and I liked it! It definitely smells and tastes like a whiskey, obviously, but in a lighter, more pleasant way. I'd been putting off exploring whiskey beyond cocktails that featured it because other brands are off-putting to me in the strength of their noses; if I'm going to enjoy a spirit, I don't want its aroma to be so strong it smells like the booze-soaked carpet of a college apartment that hasn't been cleaned in gods-know-how-long. But I digress. My point is, I really enjoyed Tullamore Dew and could see myself drinking it either on the rocks or otherwise. Thanks for the recommendation! Cheers! :)
I used to drink only Jameson or Bushmills. With the emphasis on Bushmills. Now I'm a Tullamore Dew kinda guy. Always neat. I am by no means a whiskey snob. This is just what I enjoy. I actually drink most styles of whiskey.
Great review, I really enjoyed the video! I've also recently tried the Jameson caskmates and I think that would be a great place for a beginner to start as well. They're pretty mild with notes of either stout or IPA. (Depending on the choice of caskmates)
TWD, I started with Chivas, Swing, Buchanan's, Old Parr, Johnny Walker (black label). Chivas Regal is the traditional gentlemen's drink. You grab a nice glass, add three ice cubes then two fingers of Chivas is the best after a long day at work!!!
Im a new whiskey drinker, coming off of years of miller lite. I have alot to learn. Tried a bottle of Crown, thought it was good until I tried Glenfiddich... then I realized how bad Crown was.... going to try Jameson next....
All drastically different from eachother. You'll see a lot of people who will tell you that any particular whisky is garbage. Just make sure that you stick to what you like and keep growing. Make your own decisions... and I'm glad you moved on from Miller lite. No matter what happens, that was a good move
Ice review/suggestions I've been wanting to try a couple Irish whiskies and you suggested some nice ones, cheers and thanks for the review. Good pricing on them too
Great review. I was fortunate to go to Ireland last year, and visited the Jameson factory. I enjoyed the Red Breast (16), Green and Yellow Spot. I did a hand poured bottle of Black Barrel for later. AND THEN...very fortunate to find some Jameson Rarest Reserve. That one is hanging out for a few years.
Just found my favorite - Glendalough - by accident at the New Hampshire Liquor Store (USA). Actually, I haven't had an Irish whisky that I didn't like, but it tastes much better in Ireland, for some odd reason.
also started with jameson and tullamore dew .. jameson kinda sticked with me a long time but i just couldn't stand the taste of tullamore dew after few months .. dunno it just tastes little bit too roufh for me
I usually try to keep a bottle of Connemara in the bar, for those who like smoky flavors, but want something lighter than a typical Islay. The Connemara has always pleased them.
Nice list, Bill. Thanks for the effort. If it may help anyone, here are those he mentioned:
- Jameson Irish Whiskey
- Tullamore D.E.W.
- Powers Gold Label
- The Sexton
- Bushmill's Black Bush
- Teeling Whiskey Small Batch
- Jameson Black Barrel
- Clontarf 1014
- Green Spot
- RedBreast 12

Missed Paddy.

Jameson ---> $27
Tullamore D E W ---> $24
Powers Gold Label ---> $32

Bushmill's Black ---> $35
Teeling Whiskey Small Batch ---> $33
Jameson Black Barrel ---> $40
Clontarf 1014 ---> not available
Green Spot ---> $70
Red Breast 12 ---> $72
One I would recommend is Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Single Grain: $30...has a bourbon and sherry cask finish...amazing taste at a low price point.

I will be covering it this month actually! Already recorded the episode :)
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Looking forward to it!
Wish Redbreast 12 was still $40.00!! It's amazing!! And Redbreast Cask Strength is even better.
My first Irish whisky was Jameson and Connemara
Redbreast 12 is hands down my favorite! I only wish I could find it for around $40. It's around $67-$70 here in Michigan :( lol
Anthony Pagan I'm a michigander too. Trust me, I feel your pain, this sucks
Nickolas Aaron Me too! The tip of the upper peninsula✊ We're at a dead end up here... Red Breast 12 at the low end is $87-$90 a fifth... if you can find it!
Seriously wanna bootleg Redbreast 12 for us up here, bottles by the thousands. We got that lake effect cold, we all need some Redbreast to warm up.
Damn it's 45 in cali
Same in the Czech republic :((
It’s pretty wild to see how much the prices have changed in 5 years!
I new liquor store opened next to my house and had a 10% opening discount. I got the Redbreast 12 because I remembered this video. This stuff is amazing! Great recommendation!!
I'm jealous of youu drinking that right now!
I tried the Knot Irish whiskey. Very good and it changed my view of Irish whiskeys.
I am a newbie to Irish Whiskey. I've had Jameson and maybe one other. I just picked Kilbeggan at random and I am really enjoying it. I find it smooth and easy to drink.

...forgot my tasting of Tullamore D.E.W. Single Malt. Loved it but can't find it in the state of PA.
I started out with Jameson like most Americans I believe. I find Irish Whiskey to be more approachable than Bourbon. I've only ever had White Label and Black barrel, but I hope to try Gold Label, 18 year and move into Red Breast.
Teeling, Jameson's black and bushmills black are perfection, but Red Breast 12 is simply divine!
Never tried Irish whiskey before, just bought a bottle of Kavanagh blended whiskey 👍🏼 excited to try it
Let me know what you think!

Sounds good. I'll keep an eye out for it!
Crazy that jameson black barrell is $52 in Ireland but $32 in the US
My first Irish whiskey was one you actually mentioned in your video. Tullamore D.E.W
Me thinks I'll be trying this one first!
My bartender suggested Sexton and I agree, it's really good.

Black Bush is amazing, it's very smooth and I love it. I am new to whiskey (knowledge wise, i've drank a ton lol), so did not know it has sherry in it. Hence - I will try for the Macallan you suggested in the Scotch guide.

Irish coffee for years before I even liked Whisky! A mix of the two beverages of life!!
I agree!
Hot whiskey is tough. It sounds good but I can't get into it.
@@mikelombard21 you could totally drink it cold!
Tullamore is my go to, Green spot is my favorite, and Jameson was my first. Great recommendations
Nice breakdown
Go to's for me are Jameson, Bushmills, and Tullamore D.E.W.
Some of my favorites include Red Breast 12, Teeling, Green Spot, Tyrconnell, The Quiet Man, Sexton, and Jameson black.
No ice guys, just a drop of water ! Yes gotta taste the beauty!
For me it was Bushmills Black, still one of my favs

Red Breast is my absolute favorite, good choice.
I love the Black Barrel too :)
Great list ! My personal favorite is 8 year old Killbeggan single grain.
I just started drinking whiskey and started with Tullamore DEW. I started out with ice initially due to percieved nastiness of the alcohol until a wise man told me to man up and drink it straight. I've just recently started noticing the nose and flavors and finisher of Tullamore

Love Jameson, so smooth. I love the black edition because of the reddi whip vanilla finish.
Kilbeggan,
Connemara,
Other than missing these beauties, your list is perfectly on point.
I soooo needed this video today. Friday's are all about the pizza, new bottles and catching up on my fav vids.
Nice! Glad I could entertain

I have tried a few others, but can't really comment further at this point.
pwndecaf Would you say the black bush is rougher/more burn than regular Jameson? It's all about the smoothness for me.
Thanks for the list Bill! Never had an Irish Whisky, now I have a good place to start!🥃👍
I'm glad j could help!
Bushmills original is my favourite, haven't tried the black Bush yet tho. Funny cause I live 5 mins from the distillery
As an Irishman the best Irish whiskeys on a budget I believe in this order are Powers John Lane, Redbreast 12, greenspot / yellowspot, bushmills 16, bushmills black bush, Jameson black barrel! Just recently got into irish whiskey. My first was Jameson and next was Propper twelve. I liked both of them.

Redbreast 12 is the bomb!
Love it!
My first Irish was Jameson, then Tullamore Dew and Bushmills. I'm currently sitting with some Paddy, which I find quite easily drinkable and smooth in its profile.

Jameson is my go to price wise. Green Spot whenever I can find a place that serves it and Yellow Spot is my favorite...only found it a couple times. Redbreast is nice...a friend keeps it in stock
Yellow spot is so good. My favorite of the spots

And which Irish wiskeys are now suitable for advanced whiskey drinkers? Redbreast 27? Yellow spot? Bushmills 21? Teeling 30yo?
Well those would certainly be in thr running! But this video is made to help people start off with cheaper options that are easy to sip.

Irish, Scotch and Bourbon are different phases of whiskey evolution. Each distinct and enjoyable.
Redbreast 12 is $48 here, but I have to have it when I watch “Going My Way.” Although Bushmills is probably the whisky featured in the movie.
I kinda like the west cork stuff, port cask finish is my favourite of em. I do know, that its not some miracle of whiskey world, but I just like it.... And yeah, you cant go wrong with redbreast 12..
Enjoyed the video, keep up the good work.
Thanks Aaron!
I haven't had enough writer's tears for me to personally recommend it. I was drunk when I first tried it :)
Red breast is very good for its price , I never had it until a few weeks ago and it was a good buy
Paddy whiskey is one of my favorites. It runs in the $20-25 range.
I enjoy it very much aswell! Great bang for the buck.
...And so, what is the best Irish wiskey from this review U recomend to buy?)
Greenspot
Great video jaysus some people are paying out the arse for some good whisky so glad I'm Irish
I'm glad you're Irish too.
Have you tried Sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey? I just picked up a bottle. I will save till I have a friend over and then give it a go.
I've tried it. It's a good starter Irish whiskey. The bottle is cool :)
You should update this list and add Slane. A very good Irish on the order of Tullamore DEW.
Your prices were cheaper than mine! I like your" to the point presentation". Kilbeggan is one whiskey to talk . Im going to try sexton tomorrow. Good Job!
Awesome! Let me know what you think
Great list of Irish whiskey👍👍
My favorite Irish distillery is West cork, they have both age statement and NAS whiskey at affordable prices and don't get as much attention as they deserve.
That's a great suggestion! I'll have to give it a shot.
How is The Irishman Founder's Reserve and does it has similarities to any of the mentioned Irish Whiskies?
I have not had it
I started off strong when when I was at a pool party drinking Jameson 18yr
That's a fun one to drink! I also find myself giving people really nice pours whenever they come to my house

Mmm
Im a new whiskey drinker, coming off of years of miller lite. I have alot to learn. Tried a bottle of Crown, thought it was good until I tried Glenfiddich... then I realized how bad Crown was.... going to try Jameson next....
All drastically different from eachother. You'll see a lot of people who will tell you that any particular whisky is garbage. Just make sure that you stick to what you like and keep growing. Make your own decisions... and I'm glad you moved on from Miller lite. No matter what happens, that was a good move
lol.... agreed.... trying to get all the scents of the whiskies .... my nose has a long way to go
Crown is a rye so it's going to taste a lil diffrence
Ice review/suggestions I've been wanting to try a couple Irish whiskies and you suggested some nice ones, cheers and thanks for the review. Good pricing on them too
Glad I could help!
What about Douhanns whiskey from Walmart? I live in a dry county. But we have a Walmart.
Hello
Hello
Hey, just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos, keep up the great work! Slainte!
Thanks! I sure will
Have you ever tried Roe&Co blended Irish Whiskey? It's beautiful
Jameson Gold Reserve. One of the first one I ever enjoyed, and will be on my top 2 list for the forseeable future along with the Hibiki Harmony
SLÁINTE!
skin19head69 MAIDIN!
Morning!
Bushmills original is a great entrance to irish whiskeys too
In New Hampshire Redbreast 12 is about $65.00 and Redbreast 15 (a Christmas present to myself) is $95.00. Writers tears is a decent choice at $35.00
I started with Dubliner. It would be great if you review that.
Just found my favorite - Glendalough - by accident at the New Hampshire Liquor Store (USA).
Actually, I haven't had an Irish whisky that I didn't like, but it tastes much better in Ireland, for some odd reason.
Awesome! Glad you enjoy it
Anne Feeley As does Guinness
Not really a fan of Irish but Jameson stout caskmate was a nice surprise
I have the IPA and the Stout in my cabinet. I'm going to review them soon!
Didn't like the regular Jameson. Rb12, great. Just picked up green spot, have yet to try it.
The tyrconnell is my favorite. Try it.
Tyrconnel was one of the first whiskies I did on this channel. I'm planning on reviewing more of them soon!
also started with jameson and tullamore dew .. jameson kinda sticked with me a long time but i just couldn't stand the taste of tullamore dew after few months .. dunno it just tastes little bit too roufh for me
What is your opinion on Jameson Caskmates (Stout) vs Jameson original ?! 🥃
I would say try Connemara also. Peated Irish whiskey.
I usually try to keep a bottle of Connemara in the bar, for those who like smoky flavors, but want something lighter than a typical Islay. The Connemara has always pleased them.
Great video! Thanks for the walkthrough.
Thanks for watching!
