Good to walk around on a vehicle that’s not bright shiny and new
It looks like a well used and tested rig with a focus on essentials
Simple things have a habit of working
As free standing awnings go you can’t beat the 30 second awning for strength, quality and value

Loved this man. I just love seeing basic, simple, minimalist trucks. Our country has been travelled for so many years in old simple trucks. I just love seeing them. Hence why I own one too 🤣 those DCDC chargers change the game too. Being able to tap solar straight in and the charger does it all. Fantastic. Maybe look at throwing an AGM in the back for your acc. and then you can join your two starters with the redarc isolator, so you can hit the switch in the cab and start the car off your second battery. That’s how I’ve done mine. It’s works well.
Alas, bloody good vid mate. We must catch up soon.

If you carry a spacer, you can put your normal tyre on the front of the car, and if you need to change the tyre on the rear of the car you put the spacer in with it, so that it still has the offset for the track correction.

I live in Australia, & I love looking at other people’s walk throughs.
I love your rear set up it’s fantastic.
One of the best things I cook in my travel buddy is a beef roast with veggies.
Put everything into a oven bag, & just throw it in for about 4hrs while your driving.

G'day Pete, friday nights with a few brewski's watching a new WACA vid is like a match made in heaven. I really like the fact you have stuck to the KISS principle with your 76 (Keep It Simple Stupid) not everyone needs everything that opens and shuts. The best addition to any 4wbie is a full tank of fuel as thats what will help build the adventure bug. I'm slowly building up my Amarok to suit what I want, current plans once the new canopy arrives is a small drawer to sit my fridge on, to store recovery gear and a basic 2nd battery setup and sticking my solar panel to the top of the canopy. It amazes me when people spend 10's of thousands on additions and the 4wbie never leaves the blacktop...
Keep up the great work mate

    Onya Pete,
Great video to show how simple it is to get away camping. Love my KO'2 as well. Quick story....
Two years ago I was doing a trip, got four new BFG's, and two cheap spares. The tyre place said my spare rims were a bit old and crappy so put the spare tyres on a couple of newer rims he had out back, no extra charge. Cool.
Fast forward to now, had a slow leak, went to change tyre to fix leak, and you guessed it. Given me two rims with a smaller centre diameter. So for two years, done Coral Bay, Murchison, Uluru, Eastern Gascoyne, Lake Ballard, Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Pemberton, tracks surrounding areas without a spare, pretty much. Never had a problem with the tyres. Not something I would ever do knowingly. Pays to check hey.. 🤔🤔
Anyway check out Fire to Fork channel on his awning. Not cheap but you'll never use anything else.
    Cheers mate...

Good video Pete, if only tall blokes could fit in one of these from the showroom eh! It’s funny you should mention flogged out topics. The hundreds of LC builds on the inter webs each trying to put more gear in the back or more flash electrical systems than my house but in all honesty, some not particularly well thought out in my opinion it’s just about ticking a box because another bloke has done something similar so they have to do it a bit better. Getting out camping to enjoy the vehicle more so than the camp site or destinations on the way! Mind blowing! Basic is the way to go and just enough to be comfortable out the bush is absolutely essential and I reckon you and Alex from Intents have it dialled. Get out and use the gear you have, learn it and enjoy it.

Love your videos mate 👍 great walkthrough of your baby 👌 have you got a name for her?
Keeping it real is what it's all about. Always loved the 76 series! Something about a wagon that's just so right . . . . Let alone a V8 diesel beast! I know what you mean about loving your rig and developing that relationship. Before my 90 series Prado I had a Calais and and the thing that made me look at a 4wd was simply the fact I had to park it up and walk all my stuff down to the beach. Well I took the plunge and . . . well . . . . then I really experienced the freedom of 4wding! Once you pop you can't stop ay 🤣😁
Made my own drawers a good 6 years back and then plumbed a n the electrics for the 2nd battery and a water pump system and then all of the bloody rest!
Next up is a dcdc charger and a lithium setup and recently went the travel buddy as well. Game changer! Gotta love the experiences it brings you and the fun times along the way 👌
Gotta agree with the bf rubber 👍 never loved black round things before my first set of goodies and wouldn't look elsewhere tbh. Toughest choice will be ko2's or km3's next round but mine are about 80k KMs in now and still a decent amount left!
Love your work mate - keep doing what you're doing 👌👍

Good run through mate. Don't ever get rid of it. Wife and I love the 76. Understand the opinions on value for money, but at the end of the day the "safety" features, convoluted electronics and Apple car play/ Android auto infotainment is worthless marketing crap. Landcruiser tractors are life. Embrace the leaf springs. It's evolution on the horse and cart whereas a Ford ranger is evolution on the barina.

      Yeah nah.
I'm old skool and there is nothing quite like using Apple car play and off line maps for navigation whilst cruising on the speed limit with cruise on and then airing down and letting the thing rock n roll offroad.
Sort of real Jekyll and Hyde deal.
You just have to make sure you have the coin to get it recovered and put on a tilt tray if it all goes wrong. :)
If I had unlimited funds I would probably build one of these things but the idea of spending a lot of money to Toyota to get very little doesn't really float my boat.
My Brother has had a couple of Pajero's from new, flogged them and gone most places bog stock and has never replaced anything on them.
Doesn't really matter what you have as long as you are happy with it.

@@oldbloke204 absolutely mate. I just meant (as an example) that those features are really $1k worth of after market stuff and what's under the skin and less easily marketable as a feature is more valuable.. at least it is to me. I've had a cactus brand new ranger so I don't care for that scenario any more.

    • @oldbloke204
      @oldbloke204 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@rogercole9942 Yeah I get exactly what you were saying.
The main value of a 4wd in the old days was that it was indestructible, questionable, or could be easily fixed with fencing wire and duct tape if it broke down in the middle of nowhere.
That has certainly gone by the wayside as all the new regulations have come into play.
Now your average 4wd has to be able to tow a horse float, drop the kids off at school, fit in with societal norms, be economical and somehow still be able to climb a mountain, make it to Cape York or across the Simpson.
I love what my thing can do but there is no way I will be keeping it until it has racked up 200k or thrash it unmercifully whilst I own it.
Check out the costs of replacing a modern CRD diesel with however many cylinders or a 6-8-10 speed auto.
I really like the Toyota wagon and if I had the coin it would be fun to build one to the specs I would like, unfortunately that won't happen so I will just have to stick with my Mitsi., lucky I really like it and more importantly so does the rev. limiter.
The most important feature of any 4wd, imo, is that her indoors is on board.
      Cheers.

The radio flattened the starter battery in a couple of hours? Wow, how many mega watts does the stereo pump out? :) I think I could run our stereo for a couple of days at least before it has any effect in the battery. It's always good to see a nice straight forward rig that all us poor people can think about owning. Interesting that you changed from side by side with the drawers, I was thinking of going to a side by side but maybe I will rethink that now. Travel Buddies are awesome. We love ours so much we just bought a second one for the Coaster. My biggest problem is space in the 90 series and I just can't work out where to put water tanks.

depending on the capacity a deep cycle will crank an engine however it will damage the battery thus reducing it's lifespan. Good option to have in an emergency however in my opinion it's best to spend $150 on a decent portable jump starter (I think the good ones use capacitors and lesser ones are lithium, capacitors last a long time...).

@@Mrbullet1952 Too true. So better than not having the option. However if you invest in a small starter battery pack for those emergencies you won't have to use a deep cycle battery to do so therefore you won't damage it. Do you carry a hammer or mallet when going camping or do you use one of you heavy tools as a hammer instead (e.g. 32 mm wrench)? You probably carry a hammer instead of using a tool which isn't designed to be used as a hammer....
