Three years ago I got sick on a Tuesday while at work and told my boss I was taking a couple of day off. Over the next two days I got five calls/texts asking when I'd be back. On Friday I went in and left after three hours later because I was still too sick to work. On the following Monday I put in my two-week notice and told them it was because of the harassment I received while sick.
Because it's cheaper and more beneficial to company reputation to put that manager on blast than to deal with the potential lawsuits that could come from not doing so since what the manager did is a PR nightmare, not to mention many kinds of illegal. HR is not your friend and when they are, it's never for your benefit.
I took a 30 day medical leave of absence and received multiple emails regarding how soon could I come back, and ask me to promise I was recovered and ready to work. No s88ts given. Get yer a$$ back to work.

There are people who actually think like this, in the real world…(& they always seem to get into positions of authority)
The fact that they think and behave like that is what gets them into positions of authority.
