Be honest, you guys make sure all the bolts are broke loose before filming. Because I’m doing this same thing on my Tahoe and even though it isn’t rusty at all every nut has required a breaker bar and lots o grunt lol
Should have used copper anti-seize on the O2 sensor threads before reinstall. Good idea to use some on the other fasteners as well. Otherwise, good instructional video.

a suggestion: at 10.00 minutes into the video, you talk about installing the 'new gasket' and "lining up the tabs inside the exhaust manifold", these are the important portions and details of the installation that you need closer detailed video on if you intend that an amateur home mechanic is going to benifit from and gain enough confidence to tackle this job on his own. thanks
This is a great vid. Unfortunately, I don't have a lift at home. I can only get my truck up so high on jack stands. I don't think it would be high enough. I'm trying to figure how practical it would be for me to do this job in my driveway on a 32 degree day with the wind blowing. I got some astronomical price for a shop to do this for me. It sucks not being able to do this at home.
It can be done at home in the driveway. I would just wait for it to warm up a bit lol. That kind of weather will make even the simplest job seem like the worst thing ever lol. There is enough clearance for the cat to come out without even lifting the truck but that has it's own set of issues. Using some jack stands is more than sufficient. The worst part would be making sure you have enough room for the breaker bar and extensions without busting your knuckles on the concrete. If you haven't recently removed the exhaust, those studs can make you think they were welded in 😂😂😂
TIP OF THE DAY I have a 2003 Tahoe 4wd 4.8 that needs a cat system I know I can do it on floor jacks and stands outside on the driveway with no garage. I would definitely spray all bolts at least 3 days before using PB Blaster on all bolts and and sensor threads. I would suggest not to use any power sockets drivers on any of the exhaust bolts I would use 1/2 sockets but when you start to unloosen the bolts and it feels tight stop and spray PB Blaster and tighten then loosen tighten and loosen You do not want to snap a bolt ! then you are FUK-ED trust me take your time.. I watched many of videos and I havent done it yet but I see problems that may occur. Just sayin ! take your time no rush ! use breaker bar and penetrate and you will be fine..

nice tutorial. shouldn't be a problem on mine. I thought my under rust was unusual but I see it isnt. Curious how many hard brake lines you've had to replace. I think I have one original one left?
Thank you so very much for saying where the gaskets go. I don’t like guessing games. Though I would like to have seen you set up the driver side gasket set, as there seems to be both a flat gasket and a steel ring. Does the steel ring go on the manifold side or the catalytic converter side of the flange gasket? Or, does it fit inside of the gasket’s hole? Your video doesn’t make it clear, and there doesn’t seem to be any instructions anywhere.

Hi, thanks for the video. Is there a such thing as a break in period for a catalytic converter? I just replaced mine and it seems like the mpg went down a little. However the check engine code that I did have finally finally went away. Could you please me? TIA

Tell you the truth alot harder than what u think and are doing. My studs were seized on there had to dremel them out now gotta get stud extractor or heat them out punch them out. Cats aren't easy to remove yes u can get lucky but if your cat fails they might be seized on especially the side that it's on

My cat(s) are rattling and if I recall that was the signature of them failing before. No codes but rattle is annoying. Great video

gonna try this to change and exhaust donut on the right side where the y pipe flange bolts are
I did the same thing except I use a torch with map gas and got the nut glowing red and they came off.
I just got the PO420 code on my 2000 Suburban. Looks like I will be needing to do this job soon. I'm going to try some Cataclean to see if that helps.

The transmission and shaft dropped a little when supported by the wood block. How much drop is ok?
I have a 09' Chevy Silverado 4x4 with a 5.3 liter Engine and wanted to know if this is the same way to do it as well, let me know Thanks
Great video. I have a leak on both front sides on my 2000 chevy 3500.
If you replace cross member before connecting the pipes you don’t need to run that bolt backwards, you only need to lower the member to attach y pipe.
Here in colorfull colorado i typically gotta get them hardwares glowing red with map torch

You say code P0420. how about the P0430?
That first part you took off after you cut it do you know if they sell that alone the one that goes under the transmission pan

Both

The replace step is optional ;) no inspection around here
Didnt have to drop the cross member just zapped all the 10s on the heat shield and pulled the 02s out and wiggle wiggle wiggle

Why would you say cut it or unbolt the cross member if you have to unbolt the cross member either way to get the new part in 🤦♂️
Why do we have to unplug all of those , my bad I'm not really a mechanic
On this vehicle which is bank 2?
Bank one (1) is on the driver side, bank two (2) is on the passenger side. That’s true for all GM longitudinally mounted V6 and V8 engines.
