Hai P'loukgolf.. I am fan from Malaysia. Thank you for this show. I've been watching almost all the episode and i've been enjoyed every second of it.. It's made me feel little bit close to my idol since i can understand about their story.. At the same time, i've learning a new word and improves my english.. Since you have invited P' nat sadakorn again to the show, can you invites an old guest from early episode like P' dj tonhorn, P' dj matoom and P' Pae arak again to the show?.. I can't get enough of them and i would like listen to their story about their careers and life.. I hope i don't asked too much.. Thank you so much p' and gmm.. I really appreciate that.. Don't understand how they teach people to modify their accents when they aren't really doing a great job themselves... they still have thick Thai accent. It's just above the average but still far from perfect, in my humble opinion.
If anyone watching this is looking for a fix to their non-native accents, go for US TV series or any English programs made by native speakers, for example, on TH-cam. English listening has become my daily routine in the past few years - I've been watching different kinds of English programs. Make it yours, too, if you're so desperate to reduce your Thai accent! I've become a student of accent reduction over the years and found this particularly helpful! And I'm speaking from a Thai speaker myself. [Indeed, I'm a polyglot and an avid English learner. Apart from English... 我会说普通话。(Mandarin). หนูพูดภาษาไทยได้. (Thai). 我識講廣東話。(Cantonese).]
+deltapizza Thanks for your kind and humble opinion. However, the point of this show is not to make people change their accent but to encourage them to make their pronunciations understandable. I have said hundreds of times on my show that there is nothing wrong with a Thai accent. (I admit that sometimes it is very difficult to understand a very strong Thai accent). Nonetheless, my team and I believe that all forms of English are valid and it's fine to have a mixed accent. Having studied in the U.K. myself, I stopped trying to pretend to sound like a British person because I'm not. Answer a few questions for me, from your point of view: Is my English understandable? What is perfect English? What's perfect Thai? What's a perfect accent? What's the purpose of learning a new language?
Besides, I have to tell you that all the celebs who have joined my show are very brave because not all of them are confident English speakers. It's not easy speaking English on national television. So, I have to say that most of them have done an amazing job. It's also inspiring for English learners to see people who aren't necessarily perfect striving to do their best.
Anyway, thanks a million for your comment and I'm glad that your English is great. Hope you use it to help others. Why not try to host a show on TH-cam to teach people? That's just my humble opinion anyway.
+deltapizza Thank you, but I'm afraid your opinion may be misplaced. The main objectives of this programme are to teach the Thai learners of English various aspects of the language such as grammar, vocabulary and most importantly, attitude, as well as to entertain. Most Thai speakers will never be able to sound like native speakers, but that is not the goal of this programme at all. The programme in fact teaches the opposite: don't be so concerned about your accent, as long as you understand the essences of English pronunciation, e.g., stress, intonation, etc., and then practice accordingly. Of course there are many ways to learn English, and yours is an excellent one which is in fact regularly endorsed by the host of this programme. Whilst advanced learners may choose other sources to learn from, this programme aims at helping beginners and intermediate level learners build a solid foundation by making English seem normal, even easy and fun. And why would anyone be 'desperate' to 'reduce' their Thai accent? If these people have a thick Thai accent then so what? Doesn't mean they shouldn't speak English on television at all, does it? We're not that narrow-minded - we just wish to come across as encouraging rather than intimidating.

Simply put, you mean the whole point of this show is to help people get better at their pronunciations but not to perfect them. But the reason (as to) why I said that is I think if we set our goals too low, we will never be GREAT at anything. There's a general tendency for people to slow down (i.e. decelerate) their learning pace (or at worst, they cease to learn altogether) when they've reached a certain plateau or an autonomous stage of skill acquisition as they think they are already GOOD (little do they know there are people out there who are way better and work harder than them). And in this show, clearly the guest's got a strong Thai accent and his spoken grammar is so-so but the host gave him a big compliment. Is that what you call "good"? And is that your standard of fluency? He said "I have one good friend WHICH is (insert "er") American". First, that relative pronoun thing is what we learn at junior sec level and he's a uni graduate (from one of the top uni in Thailand), so you know what point I want to make? (In case someone doesn't: a MU graduate still makes such a mistake) Second, if I were to have an opportunity to hang out with an American for 12 years, my spoken English would already be native, not just near native. I didn't grow up in an English-speaking environment either but I worked my way up through my enthusiasm and constant effort (for years from high school to college) in spoken English to the top. [Of course, you can't compare me with native speakers as I'm not. I'm just an ESL learner. So by "top", I mean if you compare me with other ESL learners. And I haven't stopped learning English.] My point is we shouldn't give ourselves too many excuses for not being able to achieve sth great and never stop halfway!
I've taken Sociolinguistics (and in fact, got a distinction as I got a very excellent lecturer) so I sort of know what your point is when you ask those questions. I know there are a great deal of English varieties in the world and from that perspective, they think it's perfectly fine to speak the vernacular forms. But personally I prefer learning the standard ones esp. US English. Just give it a go. No one says you gotta be perfect. But never stop trying!
I've thought about creating a TH-cam channel to teach people languages but I was thinking about teaching HK people some Thai and teaching Thais some Cantonese. To be frank, I'm not ready to teach people English as I don't want to mislead them. They can simply find a lot of English learning resources made by native speakers here on TH-cam if they want to learn standard English. And I believe they are better than the ones I make.
To deltapizza, your writing skill is good but your thinking needs improvement :) It is a lot harder to improve that than the language skill. Well that is my 2 cents anyway.

-> Nobody here tries to modify the accents. It is just the pronunciations. In my opinion, it is not bad to keep their accent, but it will be better to improve their pronunciation to make their English understandable. I personally love native accents like the Thai, German and also British accent.

-> Maybe you have got to know, that the main language in universities in Thailand is Thai and I think he has not studied linguistics. At least it has an English lesson there, because in some facilities of some universities in Germany, it sadly does not have an English lesson.

-> I quite disagree with you. I am a half Thai half German and have been in Germany for 10 years, but my German as a 2nd language is still not that native like the native speakers do and I have found this from Wikipedia: ("Als Muttersprache bezeichnet man die in der frühen Kindheit ohne formalen Unterricht erlernte Sprache. Diese prägt bzw. prägen sich in ihrer Lautgestalt und grammatischen Struktur so tief ein, dass Sprecher ihre Muttersprache(n) weitgehend automatisiert beherrschen. Es wird angenommen, dass ab der Pubertät keine andere bzw. weitere Sprache mehr diesen Platz einnehmen kann. Vermutet wird, dass man bis zu drei Muttersprachen erlernen kann.")

-> By the way, the job of a 2nd or universal language is to help people to understand each other and to communicate, but not to show their skill of the accent. In fact, we have got a lot of English languages and ca. 4 types of Standard English, e.g. United Kingdom Standard English, General American, General Australian and Scottish Standard English.
