I actually can't believe they did this. I was shipping them as a rare-pair for the longest time thinking I was the only one because they had no interactions in 3H. I just always thought they'd get on well and I literally even headcanoned Sylvain seeing Yuri from a distance for the first time and immediately assuming he was a pretty girl, even as far as going up to him and introducing himself in a flirtatious way that makes it clear he thought Yuri was female!!!? She very well may have done; after all, Ingrid and Sylvain's 3 Houses support in Japanese mentions she saw Sylvain hitting on a crossdressing boy. This was changed to scarecrow in English, but it could certainly be that Ingrid saw Sylvain hit on Yuri in a dress. She was probably trying hard not to laugh, and she certainly never let Sylvain forget it.

This is such an important moment for many I'm sure. To me this is adorable! I always Adored Yuri and Sylvain and now this moment just changed everything! I love it!
I'm not gay but if I was and played the game to see this for the first time... I'd probably be crying happy tears. Why? Because this interaction is being treated in a normalized way - in other words, not beating the player over the head and calling obvious attention to Yuri's sexuality. Yuri isn't treated as being "different" or deviant, he's just... Yuri. And that's something a lot of gay people wish for - to be treated as normal. It's a HUGE moment for a gay person to see their sexuality not being mocked or have excessive attention called to it for being "different" and "not normal."
@@AJR-zg2py I completely agree. Most media fucks up there and always acts like it's this HUGE difference. And not treated in a normalized way. I love how the interaction is subtle about Yuri being into guys. And even Sylvain questioning his own sexuality in a part... That's normal too. Hell I'm still questioning myself at times.

I love this! It’s actually very accurate to the experiences of some “straight” guys irl. A lot of guys are, consciously or not, more attracted to traditionally feminine features than they are to women, which opens up a whole other can of worms as far as gender vs sex is concerned. Really interesting stuff. In my head canon they’re totally gonna end up together now

Honestly, I've noticed that about myself. It's why I can, aesthetically at least, appreciate younger looking guys, particularly those with softer or more feminine features.
Of course, I can also acknowledge the appeal of a more masculine look as well but that's on a completely separate level. And in either case, I'm only romantically attracted to women. But there may be something to that.

I love that this game give us a chance to explore relationships that the original never had the chance for. I mean we had paralogues between characters who didn't even have supports like Leonie and Lindhart, now they do have supports.
From the moment the game was announced this was what I was most excited about and I'm glad to see Three Hopes play into this. Would I like more? Of course. Though I'm just happy that there is more to begin with cause I never expected this.

well, not the only queer stuff we got from 3 hopes, considering we got goodies such as:
A: Monica being the biggest edelgard simp somehow
B: the seemingly-intended implication on why Shamir's GD paralogue happens (a noblewomen being...interested..in shamir. with the camera panning to her booba during said cutscene)
It goes well with Flayn's comment in 3H. She said that Sylvain was seen "making up with girls and boys at the academy" - the only comment in the whole game suggesting he could be bisexual.
This one makes it got further with that idea I guess.
I'm surprised Sylvain took the flirting so well considering people interested in him for his house/crest is like the world's biggest sore spot for him.

Fire Emblem Bi Awakening
this is honestly really nice to see as a gay guy! three hopes is so unapologetically queer in a lot of its interactions, it's nice seeing gay romance being treated equally to straight romance. three houses did it too with supports like ferdinand/hubert and catherine/shamir, but this game just dials it up further and has explicitly queer interactions, which is super important to see in games. props to the developers for finally not being homophobic in their installments 🙏🙏
Yeah, it's nice to see positive representation coming from FE3H now because the first time I heard about the game is the discrepancy between the wlw and mlm S-Supports with 2 of the M!Byleth ones being non-romantic (which just leaves Linhardt who wasn't a lot of people's type since he's really condescending lol, I love him though) which is somewhat rectified now that we have Jeritza and Yuri. Also I will say, Jeritza definitely gets my pick as my favorite S-Support CG art with him and Byleth fighting the Agarthans is mint.

Three Hopes has beaten Mass Effect 3 and MGS4 in having the most shameless fanservice crammed into a game I've ever seen and to be honest, I ain't complaining.
I LOVE this. Haha. So far one of my favorite supports in the game, up there with Constance and Lorenz’s first support.

You know, I'm usually not into forced, or what is seen as forced, same sex pairings... I side with the spiderman argument if you've heard of it... "Spiderman can't be anything but straight because that's how stan Lee made him"... It was a real big thing for a bit... But you know, this one, I'm on board with... It feels so natural, yet unexpected... And I unironically love it... Sylvain is my favorite 3H character, and I want nothing but the best for him, because I've made sure to witness ALL of his supports... And Yuri and him mesh better, even better than him and dorathea in my head... I feel like Sylvain is actually very asexual... He's not really into sex or things like that... He uses it as a weapon to protect himself.. he's into a persons soul... And this conversation, albeit-- short, really showed how much they like each other as people... sylvain has always given major bi or pan vibes to me. i like your asexual take and respect the headcanon (tho my personal hc, i dont think hes ace, but he definitely does not enjoy it as much as he pretends and uses it as a weapon). sylvain IMO is the type who loves and wants to beloved regardless of his partners gender. But I feel like he was either sexually abused as a child or had become so disillusioned with sex,because he feels it would just create a "crest baby", that he really doesn't want it, just the romance behind it and the love-- like you said... That's how I decided upon ace. Fyi, I am ace myself, and I know for certainty, I only aim for the love of a person. And that seems to be the only thing Sylvain wants. True, unabashed love. No matter what the sex is. He just wants a partner, a friend, and understanding.
Also he's definitely an ENFP, so his flirtatious side, might just be that charisma coming out to defend himself. Because remember he breaks up with a lot of girls, but never once have they mentioned, that it was after sex... He's just emotionally vampiring them, because of that complex with women... I don't feel like he has any actually motivation for sex.
But you're definitely right, same sex would work so well for him. It would give him so much more understanding from his partner and he'd be able to give understanding to his partner. I like him a bit too much, which is why I picked Female Byleth to have S Support with him in all routes (I was planning to pick Male Byleth for Verdant Wind or Crimson Flower route, but I couldn't abandon Sylvain /LOL). I also like your headcanon that Sylvain is asexual. I think it's super interesting, and somehow, I think: "Hey, this may be true!", especially when Sylvain hates the concept of "Crest babies". I haven't thought much of him as an asexual because, in most of his paralogues, it said that he had a large family with his partner (but I do believe that Sylvain is bisexual. He is just trying so hard to hide it XD). I'm also an ace myself, so I would love to support the Ace!Sylvain headcanon. Because in the end, Sylvain only wants someone who understands him, someone who respects and treats him for who he really is. Perhaps that's why Sylvain only has THREE A support with his female comrades, asides from Byleth (four if we count Felix). Anyhow, thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I am not sure I am willing to pin the bisexual badge onto Sylvain just yet, as it could just be a joke or fanservice, which are FAR less literally minded in Japanese media than they are in Western media. But hell, if this brings joy to people, it's great. And my opinion doesn't mean squat in the end, as it's only one of many.
One thing does amuse me though; if Sylvain mistaking Yuri for a girl is a reference to Ingrid referencing Sylvain hitting on a crossdressing boy in a Three Houses support (changed to scarecrow for English release) that means the chickadee line came out of the mouth of a ten year old.
