- City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works sanitation workers in white hazardous materials suits, with Clean Harbors Hazardous Waste Management and Action Cleanup Environmental Services clean-up homeless encampments at Venice Beach on Friday, October 21, 2022. LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) provided homeless outreach. Park Rangers and Los Angeles Police Officers were onsite during the cleanup. The Venice Beach clean-ups are conducted every Friday.

Its such a shame cause it looks like such a nice location with the huge sandy beach & palm trees. This is what happens when you let things slide & slide. You gotta impose strict rules & enforce them daily. No setting up camps or tents.
Until they build more psychiatric hospitals, they have no place to go and get back on track, and they are just being moved from one place to another where they don't belong.
Venice Beach has been getting trashed by the homeless forever. Heavily so for about the last 20 years. All comes down to people believing they voted for the right person or that they can simply vote their problems away.

I remember driving to California back in the 90’s and there were so many beautiful women hitchhikers as you enter Needles California. I don’t know if it’s like that now but there were a lot of beautiful young women trying to hitch a ride. I didn’t stop to pick up nobody but I wonder what became of them.

Nothing more HOTTER than a barefooted 40 year old on skateboard with giant airbags who lost her three kids and has a restraining order from her mother and sister.
Get them prisoners who are in your jails to be your work crew and have them clean up your city. I'm sure they wouldn't mind getting out of jail a few days a week even if its to clean up the streets! Maybe a few may run off from the work crew but they can't be any worse than what you have wandering around your streets now. Your city officials have turned a blind eye to the homeless, drug abuse and mental problems afflicting your state because they don't know how to address it. For a start stop building so many apts./houses that people can't afford. Get to building more treatment facilities and mental hospitals with professionals who can monitor and care for these people. They need help and should not be just stepped over because they are laying on the side walks.

Social services should be actively applied, to service the multiple reasons as to the reasons for homelessness, and, the efforts of various government agencies . . . to resolve said hardships ! 🇺🇸
Reagan signed the lanterman-Petris-Short Act in 1967, all but ending the practice of institutionalizing individuals. When this started 50 years ago, California mistakenly relied on community treatment facilities, which were never built. The institutions were also closed down because of new medications to help them mentally challenged, so they released the mentally challenged to the community to care for them. But the community's never followed through and these people are now wandering the streets.

@@anteup75 I am speaking from knowledge as I used to work with the mentally challenged. It's also part of the history. Once the development of medications came around to help those who were mentally ill, the need for mental institutions became obsolete, as well as laws being passed that people could not be institutionalized against their will. You cannot be institutionalized unless you're a danger to yourself or to others. So most of the institutions were closed down and people were released back into the communities.
In the 1990s, the institutions that house the mentally challenged, what we used to call retarded, began to get closed down as well. I worked for a company called Hope community resources in Anchorage Alaska, and they pushed to get those that were mentally challenged out of the mental institutions. They were given one of the hardest cases in the institutions of Harborview and they were able to prove after a year that they could do so. These people could live in homes, with support of a company. So harborview was closed down and those that were mentally challenged who have been institutionalized since almost birth were placed into places such as Hope community resources, into foster homes or small group homes, thus closing down Harborview.
This doesn't help those who are severely mentally ill such as the people that we saw on the video. These people are for one reason or another their families are no longer supporting them and they are walking the streets unmedicated and without assistance. Unless they pose a danger to themselves or somebody else they will continue to walk the streets unmedicated and without support from family.

My family and I have lived in Malibu since 1968, and let me just say that it’s become a disgusting cesspool…. I’m so happy that my house is in a private community, but I feel truly awful for the people that are living on PCH… Santa Monica is riddled with crime, homeless, gangs and all of the crappy things you can think of. My paradise has become a prison….

It’s just really unfortunate because a lot of people coming to Malibu from The Valley or from other places leave all of their garbage or destroy things, and then go back to where they came from …leaving us to clean up all the mess. There is a reason people started Malibu locals only in the 90’s…. They were tired of people coming in from the valley and destroying the beaches. Even as high school students we spent countless hours cleaning up the beaches so that the trash doesn’t find its way into the ocean. At one point somebody wrote “go home Valley” in black spray paint inside the tunnel on PCH because they had had enough of it too… You can’t take your children to the beach these days without worrying about the homeless encampments and all the needles and drug paraphernalia they leave scattered all over the beaches. Nobody wants their child to have a need in the foot. That’s all I was trying to say originally.

The psychiatric institutions were closed down 50 years ago, partly because of the new medications that were coming out at that time, to help the mentally challenged. The mental institutions were closed down, and community facility treatment centers were supposed to be built to care for the mentally challenged. But most communities, like California, never followed through. The facilities that were supposed to be built we're never built and so now the mentally ill are walking the street. It is a problem in every community in the United States and communities are not addressing it. The mentally ill are allowed to continue to wander the street with little support. They simply provide a place from time to time to for them to sleep and a meal. To me it shows a lack of concern. Communities are putting their money in the wrong place. The city leaders and the states are to blame that the money that should be going to built community facilities to care for the mentally challenged are not being built.
They believe that they're saving $, however they need an escort through these scenes to see where their purported 'patients' are resultingly living their lives ! 😬🇺🇸

It's impossible not to like someone who stays positive in the worst situations and cares about everyone around her. It's sad to think of what might have set this young lady off track in life, but it was likely an abusive, miserable family member, and she will be coping the rest of her life.

So Saturday through Thursday the restrooms can be occupied by the homeless but Friday's clean-up day so they have to move everything and then move back in later I'm taking this is how this works

Yeah, she might be on drugs or whatever, but she is not stupid and she has empathy. She feels sorry for others and she removes the trash of others. She obviously cares. I like her.
