      It's not really an argument for consoles, since PC has the largest library and backward compatibility. FOMO is a thing, but for a majority of people's financial situations its understandable why people are not spending $1000s+ on Gpus.

    @syncmonism หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    One of the biggest things which separates the 4080 and 4080 Super from the 4070 ti Super is the L2 cache capacity (48MB vs. 64MB). You can see in benchmarks that the 4070 ti Super doesn't perform as well per CUDA core as you might expect, relative to the 4080 and 4080 Super, and in most cases, the best explanation for this discrepency is the fact that the 4070 ti Super has a 25% smaller L2 Cache. The GPU die is actually the same, but 25% of the L2 cache is not active on the 4070 ti Super, and obviously fewer CUDA cores are active as well. Many reviewers didn't mention that this was a likely explanation, but I have definitely heard that the L2 cache is a very important feature with the 4000 series in general, and that the larger L2 cache of the 4090 is a big part of what makes it perform better in a lot of games vs. the 4080, so it stands to reason that the larger L2 cache used in the 4080 and 4080 Super explain the somewhat larger gap in performance between them and the 4070 ti Super than what many people were expecting. If it's not the L2 cache capacity, then what else could it be? Obviously the difference in CUDA cores also affects performance, but the difference in CUDA cores between these GPUs by themselves just don't explain the performance discrepencies between these different graphics cards in a lot of games.
    All of these cards are rather expensive, especially considering that both AMD and Nvidia are going to be releasing new generation cards in less than a year, with new 5000 series cards coming out in about 6 months. They're definitely not terrible products for the price either though, so if you have a lot of money to spare, there's nothing much bad you can say about them aside from them being kinda expensive. It's not like they're horribly over-priced or anything (though actual prices at retail can still potentially be really bad, especially in some regions).

    The most slept on card is always gonna be the 6800, even though there's no reason why. On top of the usual performance you can undervolt it to some pretty good results (185w for me, no performance hit) and then make another profile for overclocking it to be a fake 6800xt stock with not much more watts than the 6800 uses out the box. The physical hardware specs of the Arc A770 16GB for $300 is the best bang for the buck, but the drivers still aren't mature enough just yet. I'm sure they'll get there. In the meantime, the latest driver update broke my Halo Infinite when trying to match into a multiplayer game, constantly telling me, "The request to join has timed out..." just as the map loading reaches 100% and never even gets to "Other players loading." I do not have this issue on my PCs with an RX 6950 XT, or the RTX 4070. I bought the RX 6950 XT for $650 and is MY original best bang for the buck, when you consider the 12GB RTX 4070 was $600 when it came out. And, I don't have to worry about melting power connectors on any of these cards.
    I don't do 4K or ray-tracing in gaming, because they're both useless on a 32", 165 Hz, 1440p gaming monitor, and I don't care for it as a pure gamer who only wants smooth gaming.

    I currently have a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 5700 XT (8 GB) that I bought back in 2019. I'm currently saving up and thinking about getting the RX 7900 XT.
    While I was thinking of getting the RX 7900 XTX, I'll save some money by just going with the XT. That should be perfectly fine for me for a while until the RDNA 5 cards come out (probably in 2025). I don't do 4K gaming and mainly play 1440p so I don't need the top model and I've avoid anything Nvidia because I'm not dealing with that 12 pin connector bs.
    Note: While I don't have a 7900 XT yet, I'll most likely get one by the end of the month to early next month.
    For those that might ask why I didn't upgrade it sooner, well, I was saving up to upgrade the REST of my system. Since 2016, I've been using an i7 4790K. I only JUST recently in March 2024 upgraded that to a Ryzen 5950X with 64 GB of DDR4 (3600 MHz). I didn't go Ryzen 7000 because I didn't want to spend the extra $500 to 600 more (when you factor in all parts cost more and I want a motherboard with SPECIFIC things and no, not going into detail). I figure a 5950X paired up with a 7900 XT will do me fine for a while.
    I will say, many games I struggle with, including having massive stuttering on my 4790K doesn't happen on my 5950x.

    With a 4070 ti Super on a 65" TV, I output to either 4K or 1800p using DLSS Balanced, which image quality wise is a big step up from something similar using FSR Quality. This is with path tracing enabled.
    More should be made of 3200 x 1800 as a very viable and much lighter alternative to full fat 4k, which lets be honest, most people, even with a 4090, are not using, without some sort of upscaling. It's a pointless obsession which reviewers are wrapped up in, for some reason. Nobody else really is though. Of all the outlets, only Digital Foundry seem to promote the good middle ground use of 1800p.
    I also find it interesting how the narrative regarding the 4070 ti Super is quite quickly changing to something more pragmatic and positive, after its misjudged reaction at launch.

    I was between the 7900 GRE and 4070 Super and am ridiculously happy with my choice, the 4070 Super. If I didn’t go Nvidia I would actually be unable to max out many games. Frame generation literally turns unplayable experiences into fully playable experiences. I run DLAA to sharpen rather than upscale as Frame Generation eliminates need for up scaling. So my game looks sharper and runs faster. People don’t make a big enough deal about this tech. It will be relevant forever and 12GB of VRAM turns into more like 20GB or VRAM of performance.

    Might be biased but i think the idea of raytracing is nicer than actually spending extra money on getting it. I can see why people would want it but i think theres not enough games that use it for it to be a huge factor

      @@anitaremenarova6662 I think what OP meant was there aren't enough games out yet where the RT effects are such that they make a tangible difference in the user experience to justify the drop in frame rate(CP2077, sure. Just about every other game with RT, not so much). As time goes on, more games will incorporate RT to a greater extent, sure. But that's some time in the future, not right now with a scant few newer games really taking advantage of it while other newer games and all older games pretty much don't.

    Loving my 4070S. I’ll be holding onto this card until at least the 6000 series. Probably the mid gen upgrade if it’s worth it. I was thinking of just waiting till when GTA6 gets announced as well for pc, so I can take full advantage of that engine.

    So Daniel, what price would the 7900 XT need to be to make you move away from recommending the 4070 ti Super at $750?
    AMD should probably lower the price of the 7900 XTX to $800 to compete directly with the 4070 ti Super...

    • @bk9761
      @bk9761 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Xtx has 24gb vram so they don't need to drop it for a long time besides occasional sales days like prime day, black Friday etc

      It will never be recommended now that the 7900GRE exists. Basically the same performance for 160 bucks less.

    • @johndelabretonne2373
      @johndelabretonne2373 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bk9761My point about a price drop on the XTX is because we all know that nVidia has a software advantage over AMD right now, and most people are willing to spend an extra 20% to have access to nVidia's software stack. In this case, the XTX is nearly 20% faster than the 4070 ti Super, so both of the cards should be at about the same price to compete. Maybe $50 higher because it has 24 GB VRAM... Otherwise, people will simply buy the 4070 ti Super at $750; 7900 XTX at over $800 simply doesn't compete with a $750 4070 ti Super. Personally, I wouldn't waste my money on anything else over $650 right now.
