Temples abound all over the State, some going back to centuries. The architecture of Kerala temples upholds certain traditions which are unique to Kerala. www.keralatour...
The style of temple architecture of Kerala is distinguished and unique that can not be seen elsewhere in India.I had an opportunity to visit many temples all around when I was shooting stills for a book'Temples of South India' . Their temple rituals are quite different from other areas of this country.
The soil of Kerala is such that huge Gopurams and temples can’t be built in most places, unlike other South Indian states which have enormous Gopurams and temples. As such it makes sense why temples in Kerala are typically shorter and wider with a different style of architecture (example: Padmanabhaswamy temple Gopuram is not too tall but is wider than other Gopurams in the south).
The rituals are different , because Kerala temples follow tantric style , so rituals and ceremonies differ from other ,especially north.. here deity is more important... so its placed inside a chamber called "garbhagriha" or "Sree Kovil". only the chief priest "who is n known by the name "Mel Shanthi" and his assistants could touch the deity.(Now a days many temple priests doesn't need to be brahmin, (its tantric style)).. the only other person who is allowed to touch the deity other than the prior is the main person, who is the "thantri" of the temple.. he is the one, or his forefathers ,who placed the deity .. so Tantri's family might be thantri to many temples.. he performs special rituals that only happens possibly once a year(or a few in some temples).. rest all daily poojas and rituals are carried by the "Mel shanti ". So like many temples out side Kerala where devotees can offer poojas and abhishekas directly, that is not allowed in Kerala as the deity is considered as a separate person. It has its own rights based on the origin story of that deity and the temple. Most temples(especially the major , Majestic and important ones) has its own Origin story. In some temples, the Deities are swayambhus (which means, the deity originated there itself, legends says probably some people clearing forest or unearthing or breaking stones , accidently hits rocks which posses the deity start bleeding, then later determined my astrologers to find which deity in which form ). hope I shed some light about Kerala temples

I had recently visited the famous Nadhwara Temple in Rajasthan. I was shocked to see the filth & dirt of the locality surrounding the Temple. It was really shameful !!! How are you expecting GOD to reside there when you cannot even look after the sanctity of the nearby Temple surroundings ??? Even the tiniest of the tiny Kerala Temples sorroundings & locality around it are kept so clean & hygienic.
It is very true that many temples in North India today are not so clean and many have deviated from the traditional temple style. The type of tiles that are often used in toilets and other places are also used in Sri temples. Not only in North India but also in some South Indian temples. However, South Indian temples are not as repetitive as those found in North India. It is not known why many temples in North India were built in a different way from the Tantric style.

Friend, there is no religious conversion like you say in Kerala. Also, the number of Christians in Kerala is decreasing year by year compared to other states. The population of Muslims in Kerala is increasing but even that is not due to conversion but due to the increase in number of people. Religion has changed to some extent due to various reasons until the beginning of the 20th century But since the beginning of the 20th century, there has not been much conversion here. Kerala's Hindu population is at least because they are not as overcrowded as others and are often economically backward The reason why Hindus are behind economically is that Hindus in Kerala are not always willing to do business since time immemorial and that is why they are often behind.Even today things are not much different as well. But today, from neighboring Tamilnadu to the states of northern India, everyone is converting Such religious conversion does not happen in Kerala, yet why Kerala is depicted in this way.If you said about Tamil Nadu or Punjab or Jharkhand then it is true.
