RC ADVENTURES - CHEVY Mega Mud Truck - 1/10th Scale Electric Dual Motor Setup w/ Steel Drive

  • Click to Subscribe! ► bit.ly/JOovvU - This truck is truly built to be in the MUD. The Dual Motor setup is geared for some speed, but mostly to move the giant 2.2 Sledgehammer tires when they are buried in sticky muck.. MEGA TORQUE. BUT! I have recently swapped out the motors for new new ones, and want to test them out. A Cold day is a great way to break in some electric motors. Some folks are very familiar with "THE BEAST", but some folks are also new viewers of the RC ADVENTURES series. I enjoy going over the trucks individually, especially when there is a tip, or trick I can pass on to the viewer. Heck, the RC hobby is all about community and sharing ideas.
There is no doubt that there are many, more faster vehicles out there then my modified SCX10 4x4 - and no doubt that many of those trucks would simply crush my rig in speed and jumping. But Pound per Pound, I would pit it against any rig in the mud, or pulling!
    CHEVY POWER! haha :)
Enjoy my friends.. get out there and play!

I didn’t see anywhere that Medic answered your question but I have some input. First off, there just isn't alot of motors out there that's bigger than the 540 motor that fits Scx10's. The 540 (that's what Medic runs) is a standard size and Level3-RC makes a dual motor mount that's easy to bolt up. Dual motors gives you double the torque and twice the horse power but not necessarily a better top end. The motors run cooler because the stress of moving the vehicle is split between the two. And if you running a high turn motors like 35t or 45t your run time isn't effected much at all because like I said the load is split between two motors so they have an easier time moving the truck with very little throttle. Down side is the coat of an extra motor, $15 for the Level3-RC dual motor mount(that's a good price) and a higher center of gravity.....especially if you spend alot of time in the rocks. Medic set his truck up for mud and trails...so it fits.
Ok....on to the BIG motor. Only one I can think of is the Traxxas Summit 775-Titan bigblock motor. It's huge and readily available($35). Yes it fits....but only with some modification. You'll need to dremel out the stock Axial motor mounts, take the medal "sleeve" off the motor(to make the motor skinnier), make a 1/4 inch spacer to lift the tranny up, notch the frame a little, and buy a 5mm pinion. The benefits are a very cool factor because you'll be the only one out there on the trail with a legitimate big block, it easily makes just as much torque is the dual motor setup and it keeps the center of gravity low. The only drawback is your run-time will drop in half and the minor modifications you gotta do. the next question would be can your ESC handle a big motor like that. And it runs good on 3s and better on 4s.
The 775 motor has incredible low end torque and start up.
How do I know?........I've done both modifications.
    Tom

I've just received all of my Kyosho Blizzard parts, and it is now completed. I'm running a fly sky pistol grip with a Sabertooth esc on an 8.4 volt 7 cell: this post wasn't to show off, I wanted to show my gratitude, this wouldn't have happened without a guide. Keep doing what your doing, and merry Christmas and happy Chanukah.

Even though it is an older chassis it definitely a awesome truck. I have those rims on my Ford F350 Highlift. I found them great. Looks awesome when you deflate them and gives you the opportunity to fine tune to the conditions.
Man, how the conditions at your property change. One video sunny, then rainfall now snow. Awesome!

If your not having a problem with the driveline angles that's great, but maybe you could consider adding an old AX-10 frame or the RCbros mega mud truck frame underneath? I did the AX-10 under scx-10 and it was so easy and the results are great for a mega truck! Great driveline angle and lowered COG. - I lost a little center ground clearance but oh well.

We bash in Michigan with a 1994 Rustler (mostly stock some RPM, castle mamba pro system 3s aluminium bellcranks, etc,) a 1997 emaxx 3906 (Locked diffs, full cage, helical cut steel 2 speed trans, all metal drive train, true track RPM all around, plow setup, dual steering servo mod, castle 6s 2200kv, to much to list lol!,) 2 losi mini 8ights ( one stock, other with truck body, 1/10 steering, 4500kv 3s,) and a stock losi micro t! Keep up the good work, we appreciate it!

Sweet to see THE BEAST getting some snow bash action on the show. Looks like the new motors are working out nicely. Those old ones ran for a long time considering all that you put them thru. Any plans for a new body? Just curious I know you got that one set up really nice with the light rack and all. Look forward to more action with the new motors in the BEAST.

Believe it or not I have a very similar setup, same shocks same links same steering. I'm running 2.2 mudslinger xls atm for a bit of a novelty on a deadbolt chassis and I have stock motor and shafts. Works good for me. Only thing is with the massive tyres I've got it makes the car a little too heavy.
