  • Hello, Sherz & Linz here! Just a bit of bonus footage really, after landing back at the marina at the end of our weekend trip out, we took the camera into the cabin to show you around our boat in greater detail. It's a Dawncraft Dandy, 19 feet of fibreglass floating fun on a budget.

    Perfect. Shows exactly how you can make one of these little boats your own.

    Love yer boat. Looking for one myself at the moment - being 6' 3" thought I'd have a issue but you seem to manage ok....

      If you're in the cabin, you're normally sitting or lying down anyway, so I rarely find it an issue. If I'm doing the washing up I just do it on my knees.

    it's a nice little boat, very compact , maybe you should fit one of those lifting roofs , like they used to have on the old vw campers lol .

    • @djsherz
      @djsherz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      To be honest I haven't found the headroom to be much of a problem so far. If I'm doing the washing up it's quite comfortable to do it kneeling, and the rest of the time you're either sitting or lying down in the cabin anyway. Ideally the toilet cupboard could do with being a little bigger I suppose! :)

    Brilliant video , very informative and helpful. Do you still have the boat? I'm seriously considering one and I'm impressed how much useable space there is. Any tips or modifications you would add to yours if you were doing it again?

      I know right! Why pay more for something that's going to rust and cost a fortune to moor haha. Glad the video was of some help to you, hope you find that perfect boat!

    A great video, I enjoyed this. Thank you for showing us round your 'Dandy'. Incredible amount of space for a 19 footer, great idea of making the door into a 'stable' door.

    • @djsherz
      @djsherz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The door mod has proved quite useful. Our previous dog was old and lazy enough that we could just leave the door open and not worry too much, but Joe is a lot more bouncy, and it gives a lot of peace of mind!

    Hi Sherz and Linz. Can I ask you did you ever take your Dawncraft Dandy out on a lake? Or did you ever sail her in windy or rough conditions? I'm thinking of buying one and wanted to know if it would only be suitable for canals. Thank you. Dave

    • @djsherz
      @djsherz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Dave - I've only ever been on the canals with her, but there's no reason why it couldn't handle lakes and rivers, although for river conditions I might prefer a stronger engine to cope with water currents that you don't get on canals. However because it's such a lightweight boat, it's not great when the wind gets up, you get blown around a lot! The design of the hull is such that it sits more on the water than in it, there's only around a foot or so below the waterline. I have a couple of sandbags under the V seats in the bow which helps stability a bit.

      Not yet, I'm planning to start within a month. Tomorrow I'm going to cruise to the dock and see what's the damage underneath. It stays al winter on the shore. So that I can completely refurbish the hull and fix everything that's needed.

    Do you think you will take your boat on the Norfolk broads ?

    • @djsherz
      @djsherz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unless our numbers come up and we end up moving to Norfolk, I doubt it. I did look into it once, and there's a lot of expenses involved - getting the boat lifted out of the canal, transported to Norfolk, lifted into the river, paying the Broads Authority license, it would end up costing more than just hiring a boat for a week - a far bigger and better boat at that!

    • @marklawrence855

      @@djsherz yes I understand nothing is cheap with boats, im lucky I have boat in brundall, and now living in Norfolk, so at long last living the dream, happy boating to you both 😀

      @@marklawrence855 Oh yes that's living the dream alright. Would love to be able to just turn up, take it out for a spin, drop mudweight in the middle of Surlingham Broad whenever I felt the need for a night's getaway! One day maybe haha.

      Luckily the bed on that boat is surprisingly roomy, better even than the beds you get on Broads cruisers.
