4:19 the Kpop you're imagining is more like the Kpop in the early 2000s where all girl groups are cutesy and rap and choreography were optional. Now, groups have various concepts, in BLACKPINK's case, they are more hip-hop, rap, EDM, and girl crush. Yes cutesy groups still exist but you also have groups with more rock elements like DREAMCATCHER or MAMAMOO that is more vocal-oriented. There is now a crazy crazy amount of variety in Kpop. Rap and dance are also now more or less in every group (yes even the cutesy groups have raps 😅)

What you thought kpop was still is but only for some groups like twice very cute and with a type of bubblegum pop, right now there is an explosion of this kind of strong-girl crush concept bcs of Blackpink's influence but there are other groups like iKON (that I just met recently) that are more hiphop oriented and they are like a 180 degree turn to what I thought kpop was

You forgot to mention about fast rap of Jennie.
I also had the wrong impression of KPop. I would think of it as boy bands like NKOTB but Asian and with like 10+ members. The novelty being just a bunch of guys in unison, like watching a Chorus line or big old time Hollywood dance number. I thought it was more about the numbers, quantity over quality. I see I had totally the wrong idea, at least where BlackPink is concerned. Love it. I do pick up some poppy sounds that remind me of certain singers from the 80s like Belinda Carlyle, Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Gibson. That sound of youth..fun....girls. I think that is part of the draw.

They are extremely good looking and talented individuals passed through many years of indoor, almost military training, with contracts controling many aspects of their daily life to a great extent. That's what makes them go outside your KPop box.
To understand better their vocal capabilities, I suggest you listen to their live cover of "Sure Thing" by Miguel.
Each member has her own expertise focus outside singing where they excel, Lisa is dancing, Jennie is fashion, Jisoo is acting, Rose is songwriting.
