Hard graft, hard slog, hardly any breaks - just very hard work for The Beatles - ceaseless and exhausting. They earned every penny they made. People think being a Beatle meant holidays luxuriating in the sun - no it didn’t. They worked their arses off - from 61 to 66 it was full on hard graft. Great vid ! Never seen before - thanx a bunch. Great answer by John when asked if they see alot of the cites they perform at. "We're working", and don't expect to sightsee, he was so direct and honest, it was, and still is refreshing
@@johncaldwell1625 You would also have to replicate his early life experiences, which were quite tragic. Sorry not a good idea. John Lennon was unique.
San Francisco is my hometown, and the Cow Palace is still standing! Also, The Beatles's final concert was performed at the nearby (now-demolished) Candlestick Park one year later in 1966. And lol @Ringo's commentary about the San Francisco Police Department ("What police?"). He's totally right about them.
Ironically when they quit touring in 66, it coincided with the moment the modern rock concert was formed and serious music journalists arrived on the scene to ask proper questions. The Beatles missed out on both of these because they had yet to exist.
@Francis Serra In the interview, when asked about what was the best place The Beatles played at, John replied "Atlanta". That was because The Beatles got a taste of what the future held for touring rock groups. An audio store in Atlanta provided The Beatles with what would be known as foldback speakers. For the first time, The Beatles could hear themselves play, as well as hear the fans screaming. During the Atlanta concert, both John and Paul remark about how loud it was, and that they could hear themselves during songs and introductions. The audio store employees were offered to work on the remaining Beatles shows in 1965 by Brian Epstein, but they said no, because they felt The Beatles were just a passing phase.
John and George were starting to get irritated. Paul was losing interest. Ringo is getting tired but still trying to give the press what they want. Four young guys being relentlessly overworked. Lennon was right when he said they gave everything they had of their being to be Beatles. I'm glad and sad for them at the same time.
Yes, the zing/spontaneity was missing. If this was 1965, they did come back in 1966 for their last large concert. They were right to stop touring, they didn’t need to.
In a 60s book about rock music written by british writer Nik Cohen he described the Beatles as 4 parts of the same person. In a press conference they were not afraid to make jokes or put fools down and there was a total lack of crapola. If Lennon was witty then Starr was sentimental or if McCartney was charming Harrison was blunt. It went round and round and round and they were never boring.
I hope someone eventually pointed out to the condescending --s with the microphone that over a half century later half the population of the planet knows who the Beatles were... but nobody but his family remembers him.
Paul looked the same as in 1964, tie and jacket, trying to appease. George was sitting cross-legged Indian style, John had Rubber Soul jacket on, Ringo had much longer hair, nonchalant attitude.
"If we're still alive, we'll come back when we're 40 and have a look at the places that look interesting" said John (who wasn't alive shortly after turning 40).
Not to mention the professional songwriters and studio musicians who had the tracks all ready to go for the boys’ voice overs once the tours were made over. George Martin was their Brian Wilson for sure...
Cow Palace was an interesting venue. Seen a few shows there back in the 70's and 80's. The San Jose Sharks hockey team played their the first couple years of their existence awaiting their rink to be built in San Jose. Many a rodeo was held there as well.
You know, John Lennon has really come up with some very prescient observations and comments over the years, now, hasn't he? Mostly centered around mortality and/or his own death at the age of 40. I don't want to say this, but I will: It's almost as if he knew...
Great band! The best British rock and roll band with all the charisma! There must have been a lot of pressure on those young man. My fellow Beatles fans if you have not seen the documentary called Good Old Frida. Please check it out. It's a documentary about the lady who ran their fan club in England fascinating to say the least
He was off it in 1980. Of course, no one can tell whether he would have relapsed or not. Then again, if Keith Richards can make it till 2021, why wouldn't John Lennon? Having said, he looked awful around the time of his death, pale and ghostly thin. Could have been the anorexia.

John's comment living to 40 is sad and creepy at same time
Well, finally a press conference I’ve haven’t seen before. Thanks for posting.

Ringo: No no, do you? 😂🤣
John Lennon comment "If we're still alive when we're 40 we'll come back and look at the places that looked interesting" never got the chance 😢
Kudos to the NYPD officers that tried valiantly to get John to the hospital to try and save his life...

Pretty standard for bands on tour being asked dumb questions.
You can tell they were starting to become tired of the routine.
